I don't agree. I use Firefox, because there are a lot of security, ad-blocking and privacy extension that are not available for others. ___ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@omnigroup.com http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
Re: Impressed with Safari ...
My beef with Chrome is that scrolling has a completely different feel to … every other OS X app I use, I think. It's quicker, but less precise. I've just spent two days trying to acclimatise myself to it, but have returned to the conclusion that it's plain horrid. -- Jonathan Sanderson If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter (Pascal) On 29 Oct 2012, at 07:39, Ashley Aitken mrhat...@mac.com wrote: Of course, Google Chrome may be a bit faster and Firefox has all the Web debugging tools (not that Safari and Chrome don't have some as well) and I tend to have all browsers running most days for different logins etc. ___ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@omnigroup.com http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
Impressed with Safari ...
After having to use Firefox and Google Chrome for a few months (when I didn't have time to sort out a problem with Safari and an extension, probably 1Password, that was causing it to crash all the time) I am really glad to come back to Safari. Apart from the fit-and-finish of Safari (e.g. Tops Sites) I really noticed a difference in: 1) Printing - printing on Safari seems to be leaps and bounds ahead of the other browsers, in terms of how the content is formatted and the printing results, and (I know printing results can depend on style sheets etc., but this was comparing printing the same Web app page with Safari and Firefox). 2) Reader - this is becoming a feature I really like about Safari and, although I tried a plugin for Firefox, it was no where near as good (or as successful) as Reader in Safari. There are as well many other little things (e.g. how Safari handles downloads, and not requiring a restart to add an extension) that make Safari a great Web browser. Of course, Google Chrome may be a bit faster and Firefox has all the Web debugging tools (not that Safari and Chrome don't have some as well) and I tend to have all browsers running most days for different logins etc. However, I'm generally really impressed with Safari and its great to back. I only launch Chrome on very rare occasions if there is some flash video I can't find elsewhere I *really* want to watch. This hardly ever happens. I've given up completely on Firefox, the only machine I run it on is the old G4 iMac (and that's version 3.x, not the current version 83, or whatever it's up to). -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOFU ___ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@omnigroup.com http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
Re: Impressed with Safari ...
However, I'm generally really impressed with Safari and its great to back. I tried it again after reading this, but prefer reading text on Firefox. It's harder to set the font size on Safari: it lets me choose 14 or 18, but not 16. I can zoom to make the small print big enough but then the various headers are much too large. And there are some differences in displaying what should be the same Times font: larger spacing between letters and a slightly rougher rendering. (This should be an operating system function; how can it be different??) Does Safari have anything like Firefox about:config which I might be able to use to improve things? -- Bill Ehrich ___ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@omnigroup.com http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
