I don't think so without specifying in a port file. It sets its own flags to make sure nothing wreaks havoc with MacPorts. I did realized that tree was a command line utility, that was why I wanted it. After installing it, tree was still not working from command line. At some later time, it magically started working. Perhaps I had quit Terminal and restarted at some point, I don’t recall. Shouldn’t the install process ensure the utility is in working state or does a person always have to quit terminal and restart, or perhaps open a new Terminal window? What is the accepted procedure? It is not sanely possible for programs to inject PATH changes or command re-hashing into a running shell. Sorry I wasn??t available to respond to your questions sooner. I??m not sure why the button to update the command line tools was missing; I know Apple has changed that with Xcode 5 on Mavericks, but I thought Xcode 5 on Mountain Lion still used that method. I??m glad you were able to find the command line tools download on the Apple developer web page and install it that way. Remember to update the command line tools every time you update Xcode.
