pandoc
10.6.8 ran selfupdate and upgrade outdated this morning before starting on pandoc. I see there is a ticket from a few weeks ago that may be related, but there's not closure or work-around suggested. https://trac.macports.org/ticket/36608 I'm getting a string of errors trying to install pandoc. They are activation failures and when I clean and try installing pandoc again, I get a failure on a different place (I guess because it's installed, just not activated.) last two tries sudo port install pandoc Password: ---> Computing dependencies for pandoc ---> Dependencies to be installed: hs-citeproc hs-utf8-string hs-xml hs-dlist hs-haddock hs-http hs-network hs-parsec hs-text hs-tagsoup hs-texmath hs-zip-archive hs-binary hs-digest hs-zlib ---> Fetching archive for hs-utf8-string ---> Attempting to fetch hs-utf8-string-0.3.6_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2 from http://packages.macports.org/hs-utf8-string ---> Attempting to fetch hs-utf8-string-0.3.6_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2.rmd160 from http://packages.macports.org/hs-utf8-string ---> Installing hs-utf8-string @0.3.6_0 ---> Activating hs-utf8-string @0.3.6_0 Error: org.macports.activate for port hs-utf8-string returned: command execution failed Error: Failed to install hs-utf8-string Please see the log file for port hs-utf8-string for details: /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_devel_hs-utf8-string/hs-utf8-string/main.log Error: The following dependencies were not installed: hs-citeproc hs-utf8-string hs-xml hs-dlist hs-haddock hs-http hs-network hs-parsec hs-text hs-tagsoup hs-texmath hs-zip-archive hs-binary hs-digest hs-zlib To report a bug, follow the instructions in the guide: http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets Error: Processing of port pandoc failed hornelen:~/Desktop $sudo port clean --all hs-utf8-string Password: ---> Cleaning hs-utf8-string hornelen:~/Desktop $sudo port install pandoc ---> Computing dependencies for pandoc ---> Dependencies to be installed: hs-citeproc hs-xml hs-dlist hs-haddock hs-http hs-network hs-parsec hs-text hs-tagsoup hs-texmath hs-zip-archive hs-binary hs-digest hs-zlib ---> Fetching archive for hs-xml ---> Attempting to fetch hs-xml-1.3.7_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2 from http://packages.macports.org/hs-xml ---> Attempting to fetch hs-xml-1.3.7_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2.rmd160 from http://packages.macports.org/hs-xml ---> Installing hs-xml @1.3.7_0 ---> Activating hs-xml @1.3.7_0 Error: org.macports.activate for port hs-xml returned: command execution failed Error: Failed to install hs-xml Please see the log file for port hs-xml for details: /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_devel_hs-xml/hs-xml/main.log Error: The following dependencies were not installed: hs-citeproc hs-xml hs-dlist hs-haddock hs-http hs-network hs-parsec hs-text hs-tagsoup hs-texmath hs-zip-archive hs-binary hs-digest hs-zlib To report a bug, follow the instructions in the guide: http://guide.macports.org/#project.tickets Error: Processing of port pandoc failed And the log file from the last try version:1 :debug:main Attempting ln -sf /opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_tarballs_ports_devel_hs-xml/hs-xml/work /opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/ports/devel/hs-xml/work :debug:main changing euid/egid - current euid: 0 - current egid: 0 :debug:main egid changed to: 501 :debug:main euid changed to: 503 :debug:main Executing org.macports.main (hs-xml) :debug:main Privilege de-escalation not attempted as not running as root. :debug:archivefetch archivefetch phase started at Sat Nov 3 15:12:30 EDT 2012 :msg:archivefetch ---> Fetching archive for hs-xml :debug:archivefetch Executing org.macports.archivefetch (hs-xml) :debug:archivefetch euid/egid changed to: 0/0 :debug:archivefetch chowned /opt/local/var/macports/incoming to macports :debug:archivefetch euid/egid changed to: 503/501 :info:archivefetch ---> hs-xml-1.3.7_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2 doesn't seem to exist in /opt/local/var/macports/incoming/verified :msg:archivefetch ---> Attempting to fetch hs-xml-1.3.7_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2 from http://packages.macports.org/hs-xml :msg:archivefetch ---> Attempting to fetch hs-xml-1.3.7_0.darwin_10.x86_64.tbz2.rmd160 from http://packages.macports.org/hs-xml :debug:archivefetch Privilege de-escalation not attempted as not running as root. :debug:archivefetch Skipping completed org.macports.fetch (hs-xml) :debug:archivefetch Privilege de-escalation not attempted as not running as root. :debug:archivefetch Skipping completed org.macports.checksum (hs-xml) :debug:archivefetch Privilege de-escalation not attempted as not running as root. :debug:archivefetch Skipping completed org.macports.extract (hs-xml) :deb

Ryan, This is a deep rabbit hole, fyi. The gap between cabal and macports is non-trivial. I was able to get pandoc (and add a pandoc-devel port) that both work but since there are *so* many ports that are required to get pandoc to work, I've been lazy with filing the tickets for each one. I'll leave it to a macports dev to incorporate them [^1] :-) David, I don't know how comfortable you feel with using a local repository [^2] but feel free to try my repo [^3] out to get pandoc working for yourself. Problem intalling Pandoc
Hello, I did not succeed in installing Pandoc with macport 2.1.2 on MacOS 10.7.5 I would really like to get it as it a dependence to use "nbconvert", a tool to transform an ipython notebook into pdf or html pages. The prompt output is right below and the main.log is in attachment.
