Migrating After Sonoma Install
Don’t worry. The migration went fine and, fingers crossed, everything works. However, it always amazes me how long this takes. I have only 13 ports in requested.txt. There are 148 ports in myports.txt. I get this, but I still find it amazing. On a 2019 Intel iMac, the migration started at 11:00AM. When I went to bed at 9:00PM it was still cranking away. I have no idea how long it actually took. But, at least 10 hours. This also amazes me. On the other hand, my M1 MBA also has 13 in requested.txt and 148 in myports.txt. On this machine the post-Sonoma migration took about six hours. Still a long time, but somewhat less amazing. Thanks to everyone who makes all this stuff possible. Xcode 15 Linker Problem
For those of us who are waiting for Apple to fix this problem before moving to Sonoma, assuming it is Apple’s problem to fix, how will we know when it has been fixed? Is there a MacPorts bug report that we can periodically check that will alert us when the fix is in? Or are we going to need to watch on some Apple website for this information? Jim Seattle, WA

So, I did reinstall the macports to Sonoma version, and then I followed this instruction: https://guide.macports.org/chunked/installing.macports.uninstalling.html to remove macports completely. However, /opt/local still contains data (I assume it is all macports related) and it is 2.7GB big. Then something went wrong. Those instructions include totally removing /opt/local/ in section 2.4.3. Can I just remove it manually safely? If you want MacPorts and everything it ever installed totally gone, yes. Doing so is part of the uninstall instructions. Moreover, it seems the uninstall procedure is pretty far from cleaning everything. As you can see in section 2.4.3 of the guide, removal of /opt/local (along with a list of other possible locations where ports could have left pieces) is explicitly a part of the uninstall procedure. Why that failed to happen on your system is a mystery. As I said installation of gmic-gimp port alone took 10GB. Not even mentioning the other part of macports. Now, after removal of all the ports, only 3GB of disk space was released. Adding 2.7GB from /opt/local makes it 5-6GB the top. Are there any other macports’ leftovers I should remove manually? Can you help me with my problem to remove gmic-gimp from my drive? The error message you encountered can be overcome by installing MacPorts for macOS Sonoma. It should not need any more disk space than is already being used by MacPorts. Just remove the complete MacPorts installation (/opt/local), you can’t use it anyway on a different platform. Just removing /opt/local is not the correct way to uninstall MacPorts. The correct way is documented in the MacPorts Guide. -- Bill Cole b...@scconsult.com or billc...@apache.org (AKA @grumpybozo and many *@billmail.scconsult.com addresses) Not Currently Available For Hire
