Apparently the registry was already updated, but the MacPorts
installation is too old to use it.

I have no idea how that happened (besides manually installing 2.4.x
after selfupdate), but installing MacPorts 2.5.0 should make the
MacPorts installation match the registry format version.

Isn't the metadata table part of the registry? Why would reinstalling MacPorts 
affect the registry?
