You can find instructions from Apple for how to remove those if you wish. Xcode takes an extraordinary amount of disk space these days. The command line tools are fairly small. Xcode sometimes creates CoreSimulator caches which are fairly large. MacPorts does not need these caches but we have not been able to suppress their creation. See ticket #67592. You can delete these caches. If your computer needed to allocate swap space for virtual memory while building, it's possible that some of it is still allocated. You can clear any allocated swap space by restarting your computer. This also deletes any temporary files that might not have been removed by their creators.

However, /opt/local still contains data (I assume it is all macports related) and it is 2.7GB big. Then something went wrong. Those instructions include totally removing /opt/local/ in section 2.4.3. Can I just remove it manually safely? If you want MacPorts and everything it ever installed totally gone, yes. Doing so is part of the uninstall instructions. Moreover, it seems the uninstall procedure is pretty far from cleaning everything. As you can see in section 2.4.3 of the guide, removal of /opt/local (along with a list of other possible locations where ports could have left pieces) is explicitly a part of the uninstall procedure. Why that failed to happen on your system is a mystery. As I said installation of gmic-gimp port alone took 10GB. Not even mentioning the other part of macports. Now, after removal of all the ports, only 3GB of disk space was released. Adding 2.7GB from /opt/local makes it 5-6GB the top. Are there any other macports’ leftovers I should remove manually? Can you help me with my problem to remove gmic-gimp from my drive? The error message you encountered can be overcome by installing MacPorts for macOS Sonoma. It should not need any more disk space than is already being used by MacPorts. Just remove the complete MacPorts installation (/opt/local), you can’t use it anyway on a different platform. Just removing /opt/local is not the correct way to uninstall MacPorts. Unistalling gmic-gimp macport
Hi, I installed gmic-gimp macport on my MacBook Air with MacOs 13 (Ventura). I was mistaken that it adds GMIC filters to my GIMP on Mac. Installation took 10GB of my drive space. And I have small drive – 256GB (with 160 GB already used). Since it does not work the way I hoped for, I decided to remove it and save disk space. Unfortunately, meanwhile I also upgraded MacOs version to Macos 14 (Sonoma) – I didn’t realize it will affect macports anyhow (as you see I am really novice in this, I installed macports initially for Python usage). Now when I issue the command to uninstall gmic-gimp macport I get: xxx@MacBook-Air-xxx ~ % sudo port uninstall gmic-gimp Password: Error: Current platform "darwin 23" does not match expected platform "darwin 22" Error: If you upgraded your OS, please follow the migration instructions: https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration OS platform mismatch while executing "mportinit ui_options global_options global_variations" Error: /opt/local/bin/port: Failed to initialize MacPorts, OS platform mismatch I know there are some upgrade instructions, but I did not follow them, I admit. Having the problem with disk space I do not put even more overhead of it, without being certain that eventually I will get rid of this extra 10GB space. Can you help me with my problem to remove gmic-gimp from my drive? BR Michal
