 Subject: sluggish composng of mail

 Hello list,

I've been experiencing sluggish typing while typing an e-mail. When
I'm composing a message voiceover speaks very slowly. So, I don't
know if it's actually typing slowly on the screen or if it's just
voiceover speaking very sluggishly. It's weird because I have this
sensation as though I'm typing in mud. This doesn't always occur
while typing a new message. It definitely happens every time I reply
to a message. It is very frustrating.

Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone have any ideas as to
why this has been happening since I upgraded to SL? I love my mac and
SL so I don't want to sound as though I'm complaining. :)

 Thanks so very much,
 Christina

Itunes/Time Capsule permissions

2009-09-18 Thread graham
Hi,

I'm trying to run Itunes from my Time Capsule so as not to clog my Macbook's hd
up with loads of music.

I read on one of the mac forhams that to do this I need to copy my Itunes
library to my Time Capsule, then create an alias, move that back to the
original location and make sure the word alias doesn't appear in the file name
and all will work fine and dandy.
So i tried copyng my Itunes library to the Time Capsule and low and behold I
get a message to say I don't have permision to do this.
I'm logged on to the Mac as the administrator so thought this was unusual.
I then did vo shift m, arrowed to get info, moved to the sharing tab and tried
to give myself permision under my user name of Graham Roby and keep getting the
message this name is not valid.

Can anyone please give me any pointers as to where I'm going wrong?

Many thanks for any advice in advance.

Kind regards

I found out, that there should be some hotkeys for the spellchecker,

Typing special characters

2009-09-18 Thread Lindsay Yazzolino

Hi,

I am currently taking a linguistics course, and am wondering if it is
possible to type Unicode characters using the Mac. Much of the
coursework involves typing IPA symbols, and up until I have been using
what I call the cheater method (copying and pasting symbols from a
table online). I would much prefer to be able to type these symbols
myself for the sake of efficiency and practicality, and would
appreciate any input any of you may have. Thanks.

I'm starting a new thread, but this is also in response to Matt's
question about the character palette window. This is a list of key
combinations you can use to type special symbols on a regular Mac
keyboard with the option key. It should work on any of Apple's English
language input keyboards, except the default currency symbols are
different for British keyboards (as noted). To compose similar lists
for keyboards in other languages, open TextEdit, hold down the option
key, and try out various combinations of Shift, Command, and Fn while
you press keys on your keyboard. This is a by-product of figuring out
ways to type accents for other languages -- both with and without
changing input language keyboards. It's not an exhaustive list. This
was assembled using a U.S. English input (laptop) keyboard, so all
numbers are typed on the top row keys of the keyboard (no numpad
entries). Using these combinations, you can type in TextEdit and Mail
and largely avoid having to use the character palette window.

Thank you for the information. The reason I asked about the Unicode
values is that I have a table with the IPA symbols and their Unicode

question about Ipod: How to prevent it from unpausing?

2009-09-18 Thread John J Herzog

Hi listers,
I am experiencing an annoying problem with my Ipod touch. If I no

However, if left alone long enough, the Ipod will resume playing
music, rather than simply sleep. I have the screen set to lock after
five minutes of not being touched. How do I fix this? I don't like my
battery being almost full when I leave it, and then discover later
that it has been playing and draining my batter all the while.
Have Iphone users had this problem?

That this program will do is to read the .rfbd file that you get from
the RFBD download website and will then download and combine the
files for the book from RFBD in much the same way as the RFBD
 Downloader application does for Windows.

THis software will not play the books. For that you will need an
RFBD authorised player. Until we finish Olearia here in Australia
there is no software playback for RFBD books that will run on modern
 Macs.

RFBD offers a download manager for windows in order to download

 that
they have a mac compatible download manager. So, is this program
provided by this link made so that one can bypass the rfbd download
manager in order to download their daisy books?

I'm confused as to exactly what this program will do and how it
works. I'm even confused as to if it's software or an apple script
 or
what. LOL! I don't even know what an apple script is. :)

Also, is RFBD offered outside the U.S.?

 Thanks,

 Hi justin,

RFBD offers their books in DAISY as well as protected WMA, and
 you
can connect a Victor Stream or Book Sense to the Mac, so you can
 play
RFBD books without needing protected WMA.

 Best,

RE: question about Ipod: How to prevent it from unpausing?

2009-09-18 Thread Lynn Schneider

Personally, I turned the screen autolock completely off in settings, as I am
a new Ipod Touch user and find it annoying to constantly have to unlock
while I'm reading documentation trying to figure things out. If you turn
off the autolock, you can still lock manually if you want.

Subject: question about Ipod: How to prevent it from unpausing?

Hi listers,
I am experiencing an annoying problem with my Ipod touch. If I no longer
want to play music, I pause the currently playing song.
However, if left alone long enough, the Ipod will resume playing music,
rather than simply sleep. I have the screen set to lock after five minutes
of not being touched. How do I fix this? I don't like my battery being
almost full when I leave it, and then discover later that it has been
playing and draining my batter all the while.
Have Iphone users had this problem?
