Re: face time
I guess there's a couple of possibilities there. It's hard for me to know exactly what the problem was given we don't have your dad here to tell us exactly what his problem was, but here goes. Firstly, you should be able to specify in Facetime settings, in the Settings app of your iPHone, what details people can Facetime you on. If you have selected your phone number, then people can Facetime you from any device (Mac or iOS) using your phone number. It's probably a good idea to add at least one email address as well though. It's probably a good idea to have these details the same on all your Facetime enabled devices. Secondly, Facetime only seems to work for contacts in your Contacts (previously Address Book). So your dad would need your iPhone number in his Mac Contacts. So subject to those above two points, your dad should be able to Facetime you from his Mac using whatever details you have specified in your Facetime settings, including your iPHone number. I struggle to keep up with which numbers and emails my girlfriend has enabled for Facetime so I tend to just try each one after the other whenever I want to Facetime her from my Mac, and eventually I get through. Recently I've had best success with using her iPHone number though, so this is definitely possible. Her iPad4 is authorised to use her iPhone number for Facetime, so she usually answers my Facetime calls on her iPad. Re: RSS (was accessible "read later" services?)
I tried Headlines on the Mac which was free, but I didn't like it. I've tried News Free on iOS which was fantastic and free but crashed often. Now I use News Rack on both my Macs and iPhone and I love it. It stays in sync on all devices via Google Reader. Not only the read/unread and starred articles, but also the categories and sub-categories I create. These make it really easy to manage multiple feeds. The sharing options and view on Safari options are also really handy. I also got overly excited in the beginning and subscribed to too many feeds. I would either spend too much time trying to get through everything or feel overwhelmed by unread articles. I've now unsubscribed from lots of feeds I didn't enjoy so much, and cut my losses by marking old articles as read even if I haven't read them. I've never tried Feeddler, but it would be annoying not having the apps sync between devices. If you are going to have unsynchronised RSS readers I'd subscribe to different feeds on each, so you don't get duplication. One more point. What I love, among other things, about having News Rack synced on my Mac and iPhone, is that it's so much easier to brows and subscribe to feeds on the Mac. So I do the subscribing and categorization on my Mac, and can then just enjoy the reading on my iPhone. Re: face time
Ok, I have a question about that as well; Hannah's dad tried that vise-vursa, when we wanted to facetime on my IPhone, and he has a mac, and he was claiming it won't let him use my number, only an e-mail address, which didn't make sense to me, and at that point for I don't remember what reason we had to cut the conversation short and haven't attempted it sense. Is this true, or is one of us ignorant in this department? My dad, his gf, and I all have IPhones and are all able to facetime that way just via phone numbers, so have no idea what he's talking about here. Re: face time
Hi Gigi, I'm pretty sure Facetime was in Lion as well. Maybe even before that; I don't know as my first Mac ran Lion. You don't need to be running the same operating system to Facetime though. From my Mac I only ever Facetime people on iOS. It's really easy. You just open Facetime and select the contacts radio button. You can then interact with the contacts area and search or brows for a particular contact. Once you select a contact, you can choose via which particular contact info you will try to contact them (e.g. phone number or email address). Once you VO-SPACE on their contact info Facetime will attempt to video call that person. If they answer, Facetime will automatically create an audio-video call with that person. Esentially it works just as easily as on the iPHone. You can add contacts to favourites as well, and view recent calls. The only trick is in choosing the bit of contact info that the other person can be contacted on. This of course depends on their Facetime preferences. Their iPhone number or Apple ID are usually good bets, but you can always ask them how they can be contacted by Facetime. Before your friend begins she should check her Facetime preferences to ensure Facetime is turned on and check which email addresses and phone numbers she can be contacted on. Facetime will likely prompt her to do this the first time she opens it. If you need any more detailed information please let me know. Re: Focus 40 question
Hi there I had a focus 44 about two or three years, even though I don't have one now. So, I hope I can help you with the salt. First, you can turn off.7 and eight in the VoiceOver utility. When you get to the VoiceOver utility with VO at eight then you go down arrow until it says braille. Tab I tell you find.7 and eight and press the to turn it off. Then get out of there with Command yoq. I would however like to mention that If you are doing a brf file, there are a few other issues here. Let me know if you're doing BRF files that you're having trouble with, because of some other steps you want to take. Pages Help. Can't edit a document
Hey all, this has been bugging me for awhile as it seems like the most idiotic thing. Sometimes when I am working with a pages document I can't edit it. The document isn't locked, but I can't type or delete anything. Sometimes if I tap around on the track pad enough it will begin allowing me to edit the document, but other times that doesn't work. I can quit the document and reopen pages and I still can't edit the document. It just occurred after I tried to do a search for a word in the document, and now I can't edit it. I made sure the search box was closed. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so does anyone know how to solve it? Quite frustrating. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Okay, so long as I don't have to use Google's interface to manage my subscriptions. I tried that once and it was not very accessible. I'll give Feedler a try for now since it's free, but if I find I like it I have heard Jonathan's suggestion, Newsrack, suggested by others in the past I believe so might pay for it. Re: Fleksy is now free
Hello, The one thing to remember is the gesture to bring up the menu in Fleksy. Not sure why, but the app doesn't tell you how to do that. Take 2 fingers and swipe upwards. This will bring up a window with the text you typed, and a list of actions you can do, including a button for instructions. If you have not typed anything, it will give you a standard welcome window with the same button for instructions. I highly recommend you read through the instructions before trying to type. It will make a lot more sense after that. If you still need help with the app, let me know. I'd be happy to walk you through it. Re: accessible "read later" services?
Perhaps a subject for another thread, but RSS on the iPhone is very good. It's Instapaper related, because a number of RSS clients parse content through the Instapaper API. What this means is that when you activate a link to read the full article, behind the scenes Instapaper is stripping the page of a lot of clutter, making reading very efficient. Tweetlist can use the Instapaper API in this way as well. I can get through a lot of news via RSS very quickly. It's a great experience. Thanks, it's good to know Instapaper is completely accessible and works with my two favorite Twitter clients (Tweetlist and YoruFukurou). That browser add-on sounds useful too, since I'm not much for rss. Hi Alex, yes, you can send articles to Instapaper with a single key press in YoruFukurou. You can add articles through an add to Instapaper bookmark in your browser, but the majority of articles I add come from my RSS feed reader, which is the primary way I consume news and blog content. I use Feeddler on the iPhone but there are others including Newsrack. Re: accessible "read later" services?
It is $4, or did I find the wrong one? Do you happen to know if YoruFukurou integrates with it, as that would make things a whole lot more useful? How else do you normally put articles into the app, if not through Twitter? Do articles show up in their entirety, or is all the extra stuff stripped, much like Safari's "reader" mode? Thanks, and sorry for all the questions. On Feb 18, 2013, at 12:20 PM, Amber Wallenstein wrote: > I agree with Jonathan. Hello, You could try doing a 4-fingered tap near the bottom of the screen, Then flick left to go from the bottom up. Re: accessible "read later" services?
Hi Alex, Instapaper's iPhone app is very accessible. Many Twitter clients and feed readers offer the ability to send an article to Instapaper. You could either download the articles in the Instapaper iPhone app and read them that way, or visit the website in any browser. I load my Instapaper full of interesting articles before a long international flight. Since the articles are all downloaded by the app, I can read them in airplane mode. When I did mine, which is an Cannon 210, all I had to do was plug the thing in when I had my scanner program loaded.
