Using Airdrop with Voiceover

2013-09-08 Thread Edward Green
Hi,

I have just got a new Macbook Pro, and want to transfer files onto it from my
Macbook Air.

I have clicked on Airdrop on both machines and each can see the other.

I then go to the folder I want to transfer on the Air, and press VO comma to
mark it. However, when I locate the image for my Macbook Pro and press VO
period, I am told that the marked item is no longer available.

I also tried to copy and paste it but suspected that wouldn't work as the
things I'd read about Airdrop suggested that I needed to use drag and drop, and
sure enough, the it didn't.

It's probably stating the obvious, but both machines are running Mountain Lion
and connected to the same WiFi network.

Any tips/guidance on where I'm going wrong would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Ed

Re: Using Airdrop with Voiceover

2013-09-08 Thread Jeff Berwick
I don't know if this is the only way to use Airdrop, but I launch it on both
computers, open up a finder window on the source machine, find the file(s) that
I want to transfer, do a [VO] [shift] [m] on the file (bringing up a context
menu) and then choose Airdrop from the Share menu. You will then be asked to
confirm the action on the destination machine.

Jeff

Garageband

2013-09-08 Thread David Eagle
Hi everyone, seeing how I'm on such a roll with the mac at the moment, I
thought I'd try Garageband out. I have got ProTools, but I don't have my
ILok with me at the moment so I thought I'd give Garageband a shot to do
some basic editing. But I am completely clueless about what to do? I'm just
trying to edit some audio, but it's proving impossible. I can't even insert
audio into a track. In fact, I can't even find any tracks to insert audio
into. When I try and create a new track, I only have options to create an
instrument track. But I just want a basic audio track. I can locate the
media browser and find files, but then I can't do anything with the file
apart from play it from within the media browser. So I wondered whether
there was an introduction to Garageband with Voice Over podcast out there.
I found a website with some podcasts from Ricardo Walker, but the domain
was no longer available.

Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks.

filter Finder list by file type?

2013-09-08 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
Often, especially in the downloads folder, I would like to be able to tell
Finder what file extension I'm looking for and have it show only those files.
For instance, I just downloaded several books, all .epub files. Can I somehow
tell Finder to show only .epub files, so I can work with just those files? I
could hack together a script to do this, sort of, but I'd much rather have a
native solution. Thanks.

Re: Pages APA Writing Style

2013-09-08 Thread Greg Aikens
Hi Robin,
It is definitely possible to create your own and edit APA style documents in
Pages. This was the style guide of choice when I completed my masters in
education last year and I did most of my own formatting. I know that someone
on this list also has an APA template you can use as well. The biggest thing
to learn about is using the inspector in pages to manage all of your
formatting, etc. Use Command+Option+I to bring up the inspector and explore
all of the line spacing, paragraph style, and list settings under the text tab.
Also, you can use command+T to pull up a font window that allows you to make
changes there as well.

Let us know if you have more specific questions.

Re: filter Finder list by file type?

2013-09-08 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi,

AS I see it, there is 2 ways you could do this.

1. When you're interacting with the table, hit VO-Shift-backslash, then
VO-right-arrow to move over to type. Press VO-space to sort via file type.
Press VO-shift-backslash to get out of the table sorting options. This will
show the finder window alphabetized by file type.

You're other option is to use search and search for .ePub files.

Hope this is helpful,

basic editing. But I am completely clueless about what to do? I'm just trying
to edit some audio, but it's proving impossible. I can't even insert audio
into a track. In fact, I can't even find any tracks to insert audio into.
When I try and create a new track, I only have options to create an
instrument track. But I just want a basic audio track. I can locate the media
browser and find files, but then I can't do anything with the file apart from
play it from within the media browser. So I wondered whether there was an

Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks.

Re: using vo gestures on MacBook Pro

2013-09-08 Thread Alex Hall
Yes, there is a way. Not all gestures are the same, but many are, including the
most common ones (flicking, rotor, the two-finger commands, and muting/screen
curtain come to mind as being the same). To use them, you need to turn on the
Trackpad Commander, which is simple: hold down the vo keys (control and
option), and rotate two fingers clickwise on the trackpad. You will hear a
sound and vo will announce trackpad commander on. To turn it off and return
your mouse and trackpad to normal, repeat the process, but moving
counterclockwise this time.

Amadeus: Listening to sound as it records

I'm recording from a mixer into line in on my iMac.

So far I've played with settings ad features and am blown away by the
versatility of this sound editor.

Any help with monitoring my recordings would be much appreciated.

Re: Amadeus: Listening to sound as it records

Okay,

I researched my question and found a satisfactory answer.

When you press record, there is a checkbox that says play through. I checked
that, and I can hear the sound now.

I have a new question related to this.

When I create a new track and record on it, the first track does not play.

There must be some setting to change this so that I hear both tracks at the
same time.

Thanks,

Antonio
