3 Questions About iOS 7

2013-10-21 Thread Rahul Bajaj
Hi all,

I hope this message finds you well.
I recently installed iOS 7 and am really enjoying using it.
However, I am repeatedly facing 3 main problems.
1. If someone calls me when the phone's screen is locked, the speaker
gets turned on when I answer the call. Consequently, I have to shake
the phone in order to turn off the speaker.
2. The screen gets dimmed and locked after the prescribed time
duration even while I'm using Fleksy. This makes it very difficult to
continuously type via Fleksy for more than a minute because the
phone automatically gets locked.
3. Many a time,the speaker's volume gets reduced to 13% even if I
don't do anything. As a result, I often end up missing important phone
calls because I can't hear the ringtone.
Has anyone else faced these problems? Is there any way to fix them?
Your help would be highly appreciated.

Cheers,
Rahul

Hi -

I am a product manager at YouTube, and I wanted to follow up and confirm
that the muting problem was a bug, not an intentional change. It was
resolved on October 8.

Thank you for alerting us on this mailing list. We really appreciate your

There are few situations where playing a video or audio file is best
accomplished with the file in question on mute from the start. Also,
as many screen reader users know, the default mute can be
circumnavigated with some keyboard gymnastics, but I'm not
particularly interested in settling for a multiple keystroke
workaround to something that shouldn't be an issue in the first place.

Did you go in to General and explore some of the settings like the locking of
your screen? Have you also read the IOS latest user guide or listened to any
podcast regarding IOS 7? Just so we know what you have done to fix anything on
your phone.

Jonnathan Mossen's latest book on IOS7 is a good resource. Perhaps you could
write to Jonnathan or visit his website for more details as that tells you what
is new with Voice Over.

Re: 3 Questions About iOS 7

2013-10-21 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello,

I can confirm this behavior in fleksy. I’m guessing this isn’t an IOS issue
but a fleksy one.

In regards to ringer volume, you might want to go into settings/sounds and turn
change with buttons off. This way you can’t change the volume of ringtones and
alerts with the volume buttons.

Bricked my Macbook Air. Is a genius the only option?

2013-10-21 Thread Mike
Hi everyone,
This morning I started the latest software update on my Macbook Air and
maybe about half way through my two year old ran through the office, hooked the
power cord on her foot, and yanked it out of the laptop.
Now there is no power, no sounds, no signs of life at all.
Fortunately I have a few backups so I'm not dying or anything but is
there any tricks that I can do on my own before taking it to a genius?
Thanks for any tips!
Happy almost Halloween!

Have you googled the problem? I just did and there seems to be a way to
restore, so maybe if you can boot it into recover mode things will work.
Unfortunately, this is not accessible, so you will need sighted help.

Strange problems with fonts and text attributes in Text Edit

2013-10-21 Thread Edward Green
Hi,

I having problems changing fonts and adding text attributes in tExt Edit. I'm
not sure whether Voiceover is incorrectly reporting what I'm trying to do or
whether I'm doing something wrong (probably the latter!).

When I select text and bold it, whether that's a word or a line, Voiceover
reports that all the text is bold.

When I go to change the font, I do a select all, and press command t to bring
up the fonts. I interact with the table of font families and change it to
something like helvetica, but when I go back into my document, the font hasn't
changed.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Ed

Storing music etc. wirelessly external drive

Hi all,

Does anyone on the list keep their iTunes library on an external drive
connected to an airport extreme? If so, could you report your experience? I'm
curious on what this would be like.

As long as the wireless network is available, is the experience pretty
flawless? Playing music on my Mac, syncing my devices?

Thank you,

Re: Bricked my Macbook Air. Is a genius the only option?

2013-10-21 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Was it in the middle of the download of new updates or the installation?
Losing power from the adaptor doesn't usually cause much grief unless your
battery is more or less toast and the MBA won't work without the power adaptor.
You may need to reset your System Management Controller (SMC) to get
everything back on track. To do this:

• Plug your power adaptor into the wall and into your MBA.
• wait a couple seconds then press your power button to turn the MBA on.

It should start up if there wasn't something firmware-ish being installed when
the power was kicked out. If that doesn't do it, you'll need some sighted
assistance to determine if the power adaptor is still able to send power to the
MBA and/or to determine if you have any batter life. Beyond that, the Apple
Store or a certified Apple Tech may be your best choice.

Later...

• Hold down the left-side shift-control-option and power button at the same
time, then release them all simultaneously.

Re: Matched Items download?

2013-10-21 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, you can download all the music that you've matched. They should still be
in the Cloud unless you told them to be deleted from the Cloud when you deleted
them from your computer. In your iTunes Prefs, in the Store pane, make sure
that Show in the Cloud Purchases is checked. The songs that you've matched
should still be listed in your Music Library and you can select them, then
press VO-shift-m and choose Download. If you select all, you can use the
same VO-shift-m command to download all instead of having to do this
individually.

HTH.

Later...

 Hello All.

Yesterday, I wrote to the list, telling you all that a CD didn't import very
 well.

So, I came home and selected all the tracks for that CD and made shure only
tracks for that CD was deleted. However, only when I emptied the trash, I
found all my Music library had been deleted which didn't matter as my library
 had become untidy.

While I can download all my purchased albums, is there a way to download all
 the items that I matched?

 Thanks.

 Kawal.

Re: Bricked my Macbook Air. Is a genius the only option?

2013-10-21 Thread Cara Quinn
HI Mike,

You mentioned you have a backup of your data?

If you do, try starting your MBA and holding down the command and r keys when
the chime sounds. Hold them for a few seconds. (at least 5 ish)

Once you do that, you can then enable VoiceOver by pressing function-command-F5.

This may take a few seconds to work. I sometimes seemingly need to do this a
few times. ;)

You'll see a table which should show you four options. One of these options
should be Reinstall OS 10.

From here you can reinstall a clean copy of OSX.

Once you do that, you can then restore from your Time Machine backup.

Hope this helps!

Smiles,

Cara :)
