Dish Network App?
Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone uses any of the Dish Network apps with VoiceOver, and if so, how accessible are they? I am getting Dish Network and want to be able to do things like program my DVR and such. Any help would be appreciated. Which ones should I download? editing audio tracks on the mac
Hello, I would like to edit audio tracks that contains speech from a phone-call. The quality is not that good so I want to make it better , if possible. I have tried audacity but see not that difference with the normalize option. But perhaps more important: I can't edit any preferences, can't see the version and can't find a newer version in the app store. Yes, I tried multiple desktops thinking I would only be able to command-tab between apps running on the current desktop. I thought that would make it convenient to keep different activities separate. I was disappointed it doesn't work like that. As it is, I'm not sure multiple desktops have any real application for VoiceOver users. I would certainly second you if you asked Apple to make it so command-tab only switched between apps running on the current desktop. Hi Kawal, Happy holidays to you too! Hope you're enjoying a break and keeping warm. Since Apple messed up audiobook navigation in the iOS 7 Music app, I have been using the Audible app. However, there are two reasons why I still like to download Audible audiobooks on my Mac. First, Audible doesn't guarantee access to your books in the cloud. They reserve the right to remove books from your library if the publisher at anytime restricts their right to distribute audiobooks to your area, or if the book was banned for any other reason. I have seen this happen before, that audiobooks which were available to me later became unavailable. So I like to have local copies of all my audiobooks and to make my own bakcups of this content. It also protects me in the event Audible decides that customers must have a membership to access their library. Second, I often like to listen to my audiobooks on my iPod Nano. It conveniently attaches to my wrist and has a 24 hour battery life, so I can listen to it for a long time without using up my iPhone or iPad battery. The only way to get content on to it though is through syncing with iTunes. So while downloading Audible audiobooks on my Mac is not necessary for me to listen to them, I still do it and I think it's important that all VO users have this option. HI Cheryl, I think I might have discovered the problem. I was unable to get your method to work at first. I could see the download links in the item chooser, but could not navigate to them. I was also unable to navigate to them using tab or VO-arrow keys. However, I turned off group items within when navigating web tables in the Navigation tab of the Web pane in VoiceOver Preferences, and I can then easily get to the download links by navigating by link. I'm sure once I have navigated to the link that return will allow me to download it, though I didn't try this as I have now downloaded all my books through Google Chrome. I was using Safari 6.0.5. these days, common sense isn't enough. There are sites being infected with multi-platform malicious code that can infect your machine on a "browse by" session. Some flash on some sites can also infect your mac. We are no longer the odd man out when it comes to malicious software of any kind (windows has been losing the desktop/laptop market share for a long while now). Most site operators either don't know or don't realize that their sites are so vulnerable to attack (and very few even have the knowledge to secure their sites). SO , as a result, infections among users of apple products has been on the rise. One of the best ways to prevent infections is to make sure you have adequate protection. This includes: a anti-virus package, a firewall and backups of your system (just in case). SO far, the 2 best top a/v packages are: virus barrier and clamsav. Both are accessible for the blind and both can be setup and configured for a variety of tasks. There are several others, but their accessibility across platforms for the blind is very limited. Common sense only goes so far. A lot of people brag about how it has no viruses, but there are viruses out there for OSX and the market is getting larger. This means that the returns of writing a virus for OSX are much higher. Common sense is useful, but in today's world it's not everything. Yes, I have noticed this as well, hopefully Apple will fix this. So far, this is the only issue I have seen in Mavericks. When typing, voiceover is much more responsive, I think I will be installing it on my other macs. Hi, That question was referring to an external server. The fact that you have ports blocked won’t help, even if you did setup a Mac server of your own, as all of the ports you plan to use, from the sounds of it, are blocked. So the local network works because no ports need to be forwarded or opened for access from the outside. If you really want to broadcast without issue, I’d recommend broadcasting to an external server; that the provider will assign you a port on their server, and you configure NiceCast for Icecast1, Icecast2, or Shoutcast, along with the port you’d be assigned. Then, you give someone the address to your stream, and you won’t have to worry about you having to have blocked ports. Using multiple desktops on Mac OS with VoiceOver
Hello all. Is my observation correct that there is no way to restrict command+tabbing between applications to a certain desktop? Say, I set up three of them. When I start command+tabbing between applications, Mac OS will let me switch to apps from other desktops as well. Do you find this annoying? Should I file a report on this? Andrew, Unfortunately, not at this point. As things stand, iBooks 1.0x is not accessible with VoiceOver. We are all hoping the situation will change soon as Apple is keenly aware of the fact. Configuring Nicecast on Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks)
Hello listers. Has anyone been successful in configuring the Nicecast broadcasting application on Mac OS 10.9? I am able to broadcast on a local network, however, nothing works when I try to broadcast externally. I went through the steps for my Airport Extreme, however, the ports appear to be blocked as no stream can be accessed from the outside of my network. Any tips for me? I’d recommend downloading virusBarrier (from the app store). Mac’s however don’t generally get Viruses. You have a small chance of getting one if you download a lot of 3rd party apps that you can’t find in the app store, past that it’s unlikely. Hi, simply interact with the grid and use vo-left or right to move by day, and vo-up or down to move by week, remembering your command-left and command-right to move by month. Using tab, you can move through your appointments during the selected month too. Useing The Calendar With Mavericks
Hello, Happy New Year to you all. I have been using some of my One-to-One training sessions at the local Apple store to have a look at Mavericks before upgrading. The first problem I encountered is with the Calendar. In Month View, I cannot navigate to either the end of the month or the beginning of the month. which one seems to depend on the current date. When I go forward as far as I can I suddenly get switched back to the beginning of the month. If I do the reverse I get switched back to the last day in the month that I could reach by navigating forward. I hope this makes sense. I was trapped in a section of the month that either started on the first day but stopped before the end or ended on the last day but did not go back to the beginning. The trainer told me that there was a scroll icon to click but Voiceover cannot find this. We tried other views but still had scrolling problems. He told me that in Day View I could scroll up and down by using a two finger flick up or down on the track pad but this did not work either despite trying various possibilities. I must say that so far this is quite a disappointment. I am wondering if this is a genuine issue with Voiceover and the calendar or whether it is due to an error on my part. Diskmaker X just as a warning, if ran under OS 10.9.1, won’t work. First, download the installer from the app store. There is an application called diskmaker x If you do a google search for it, it should be the first result. Once you have that, run it and follow the instructions. It will create a bootable install using a partition on a drive, or you can dedicate an 8 GB flash drive or memory card to it. Depending on the speed of the drive, it may take a little while, but once it's done, you can boot the mac using it and have an install disk that you can use on any mac. You can also install the Refit boot manager. I like it because it not only prompts you to choose a disk when you boot (defaulting to your default after a certain time if you do nothing), it gives you first-letter selection. When I boot, I can hit m for mac, w for windows, and, I think, r for recovery. No need to arrow to one or the other or hold down any keys. I'm having problems with Gmail since traveling with my MBP!
Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42). It’s not gotten anything new in my inbox since 12/24/13. My iPhone has current mail, but not my mac. It seems to just load the same 61 messages from 12/23-24/13 whenever I do cmd+shift+N. I’ve also noticed that my archive folder is still huge (1600 messages or so), while the archive folder on my phone is like 30 or something. I'm sorry I was not clear enough, so for any others reading this! 1, go to system pref's and select keyboard. 2, select the shortcuts tab. 3, select the accessibility category in the table. 4, in the table of key strokes find invert colours and interact with it until you hear VO say editing text, then press the key combination you wish to use [making sure that key stroke is not used for anything else] and VO should say selection replaced, arrow left and back to see if your selection is now there and if so just quit Pref's and off you go! Inverting colours
Hi Colin and others, I can`t find go-command-8 for hot spot 8 in keyboard, keyboard shortcuts. When i am in table starting with Launchpad and doc and ending with short cuts for program. Wich one of these 9 categories is the hot spot 8 command hiding? And which sub category in the sub table to the right? I have looked at everyone, i believe. Meanwhile, i found out that turning of Voice Over with command+f5 and hit vo-command+8 inverts color, but not as fast as your solution. Oaaaoo, finally i did understand. Why not just get the Audible app for the I phone as then all books would be at your finger tips in a manner of speaking. I just use the Audible app and I don’t need iTunes to download books.
