Incoming server: imap.mail.me.com

Username: first part of iCloud mail address.
Note any errors try startls instead.
Outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com
port: 587

Hope this helps any who wants to use iCloud mail on unsupported devices
including email clients such as Thunderbird.

Re: Blind Square - help getting started please

2014-07-09 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
I love this program, and it has saved me more than once for not passing up my
bus stop. Lately, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit has not had working GPS
announcements on all the buses, and the old-fashioned way of asking the driver
didn't work, especially when he asked me to tell him where the thing was. Even
if I didn't use other features, it has been well worth having on my iPhone so
that I can avoid walking 8 or 10 blocks when it's close to 100 degrees out. My
dog sure appreciates that, too!

The only thing I can think of right now that I wish we could quickly do when
planning a route through Apple maps or Navigon through Blind Square is to
quickly tell Blind Square to close. Recently, I was in a taxi, and I had called
up the place on Blind Square and was going to use Navigon for turn-by-turn. I
forgot to go to settings and tell Blind Square to drop out after it sent
co-ordinates to Navigon. the iPhone started talking too much and driving the
other people in the car crazy, so I had to go to the App Switcher and close
both programs. Then I got a lecture from the gal sitting next to me about how
the old-fashioned ways worked better and that I should have used them. She is a
good friend, but if anybody needs a working copy of Blind Square, it's this
gal. But first, she needs a working iPhone.

Regards,
Gigi

Re: File format for a flash drive switching between Mac and Windows

According to apple, msdos fat is the one you want.
I have used XFat before as well, but as long as your not using files over 4 or
4.5 gig I think it is, MSDosFat works on all devices.

Finding the default speaking rate between OSX and IOS

2014-07-09 Thread Daniel McGee
Hi all, I'd like to find the default speaking rate between OSX and IOS for
voices.

By this, for example IOS is default speaking rate is set to 30%. Where as in
contrast, OSX is either 40, or 45% I can't remember the actual figure for OSX.

So basically, working with 30% from IOS, I wondered if anyone knows the
matching figure of the speaking rate that fits with OSX so that is the same
rate as each other.

Once I can find the defaults between both systems, I can then adjust the value
by 5% in increments. So they both match up with each other.

I hope this makes sense.

By this, for example IOS is default speaking rate is set to 30%. Where as
in contrast, OSX is either 40, or 45% I can't remember the actual figure
 for OSX.

So basically, working with 30% from IOS, I wondered if anyone knows the
matching figure of the speaking rate that fits with OSX so that is the same
 rate as each other.

Once I can find the defaults between both systems, I can then adjust the
value by 5% in increments. So they both match up with each other.

 I hope this makes sense.

Re: File format for a flash drive switching between Mac and Windows

2014-07-09 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
The rule is that a disk less than or equal to 32 GB should be formatted as
FAT32, whereas disks larger than 32 GB should be formatted as ExFAT.
Exception: for interoperability with Linux, always use FAT32. This works
because the overhead required for maintaining the directories and FAT is about
equivalent for smaller disk sizes, whereas it is markedly better for larger
disks to use ExFAT. ExFAT is also required for files larger than 4 GB in size.
For maximum interoperability, always use the MBR partition scheme.

Cheers,
Sabahattin

Re: Issue with the latest Launch Bar

2014-07-09 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the response. Will try and address all of you here. I am
running version 6.1.2 I believe been two recent updates. When Launch Bar pops
up and basically hijacks my computer the escape key doesn't get me out of it, I
just get a ding which is the sound I have set for an error.

Robert, to answer your question more I can be in anything safari, mail, pages,
etc and be working on something and out of the blue Launch Bar pops up. I have
command space set to launch Launch Bar and Launch Bar is taking over my
computer without those keys being pressed. For example as I was typing that
email yesterday Launch Bar just popped up while I was typing and the only
reason I know it did is I have different voices set for different activities so
I knew I was typing in Launch Bar instead of the email as the voice changed.
The only reason it isn't popping up now is I had to quit Launch Bar as it was
happening more and more frequently making me unable to actually get anything
done as it was just interfering with my work. I am assuming that I might be
able to uninstall it and reinstall it from scratch which might be my best
option if no one else is having these issues. I had also looked through all the
preferences in Launch Bar and couldn't find anything that might need to be
changed setting wise. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Using an USB Braille device with Windows throw the VM-Ware Fusion.

2014-07-09 Thread Gabriele Battaglia
Hi All.
I'm running NVDA on Windows 8.0, on VM Ware Fusion... on my iMac27.
I also get an Alva Satellite 544 traveller as a braille display which works
perfectly driven by VoiceOver on Maverick but absolutely not in the virtual
machine.

I have installed bratty 5.1.1, select AutoDetect display and USB as a
connection type. Brltty starts with no error.
I chosen bratty under NVDA braille configuration options but nothing happens:
no errors, no warnings but NVDA doesn't drive the display.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Gabriel.

Re: iCloud and Thunderbird

2014-07-09 Thread Robert C

All correct except that SSL works fine for incoming.

To add to this, if using aliases, one must set up the account in TB
for the primary iCloud address. Then with this new account in focus, in
the right pane at the very bottom is the Manage Identities button. There
you will add your aliases and you also can add signatures to each one.

Its been a couple weeks but I think I selected the main alias in
iCloud Mail on the web which is the default address in the To field when
compsuing a new email. Its a list from which you can choose a different
alias if you wish.

You would used the dongle for the device that does not have Bluetooth I think.
That Logitech keyboard has three buttons at the top of the keyboard just to the
right of the escape button which are for each device.

There is a button on the back of the keyboard that you press to get it in
repairing mode.
So this step would be one. Press the button that you want to configure.
To press and hold the button on the bottom of the keyboard for about two
seconds.
Three go into the Bluetooth setting on the device that you want to use and pick
the Bluetooth keyboard double tap on that too. It should say connected.
Now that keyboard is paired with the device that you selected.
Call me if you have any questions.
Take care.

If some of those devices support Bluetooth already, you should be able to
connect to those easily enough. I have a similar keyboard here, which works
well with my iPad and my Android phone.

Assuming Apple and Nokia are still mutually uninterested in increasing QT

was a time when things were significantly better; I think QT4 messed everything
up. VirtualBox is a QT app, and we all know how that went.

QT accessibility has been completely reworked as of QT 5.2. Nokia is no
longer involved - QT is a community project now. I don't know how well OS X is
supported by QT 5.2 accessibility - Linux is definitely supported.

It is not where you guys are yet trust me.
Let me try too explain how it works even it is totally late so please
 bare with me.
We will take a good old german airplane as the example, the reason for
this is that it is the easiest too fly and that is what y'all will
wanna start with . It is a plane called a Storch, it flies with around
80 knots that is about 160 kmh, give and take.
So here goes, all of the different instruments in the airplane are
variables all of these at least them you need are numbers... like if
you fly at curse 1 that is north, 90 is east and so on, it is the same
for the altimeter, rpm, oil temp, engine temp,, airspeed, etc, it is
the same for the ILS if the plane or airport have it , but more about
 that later.
For Alex, it is not everything that works, mostly because i have not
had the time too fully mess with it .
But what you need too get the plane going works.
So just a few words about how it speaks, the numbers are send through
a Perl script too speak, it speaks it when you press a key, and i am
going too write more about that later on. If anyone is interested they
can join #flightgear on irc.freenode.net, i will be there for at least
2 hours. As i said if anyone is interested i will happily make a short
manual however it is not what i am best at but i will sure try :)
Lets keep it on the list k? at least till Cara tells us differently.
I don't wanna write more than i absolutely have too.
