Did you use the watch app on your phone to connect to the watch and set it up
that way? It lets you do all the real work from the phones watch app

Re: Apple Watch Specific Apps

2016-04-08 Thread Alex Hall
We have one, it can be found here:
http://www.applevis.com/apps/apple-watch/browse

I personally like Sleep Plus Plus, Carrot Weather, Just Press Record, and,
actually, that's about all I use. I regularly use other apps and glances, but
those are all made by Apple (Now Playing, Activity, Workout, Calendar,
Messages, Timer, even Mail from time to time). I'm sure there are other things
I just haven't found yet, or found a need for yet.

Re: For Alex Installing the Milonese loop band

2016-04-08 Thread Alex Hall
I'm assuming it's similar to the one I got. I hope it is.

The band is a single piece, unlike the rubber Sport band the Watch comes with.
Once installed, the side with the metal opening through which the band slides
will be closer to the Friends button, while the side that can't move is nearer
the crown. Simply remove the old band, and slide the new one into place in the
orientation just discussed. The lugs (the bits that slide into the slots on the
actual Watch) must be very straight or they won't go in all the way. Don't
force it; with gentle pressure, they should slide in. If you have to really
push, you're likely not aligned right or have the band backwards.

once installed, the band closes by the magnet on the loose end. Simple free the
magnet from the band and pull on the attached part of the band until the whole
thing is large enough for your hand to fit through. Settle the Watch in place,
pull the loose end until it's as tight as you want it, and let the magnet grab
the band. Done!

Re: Ibooks on Ipad mini and braille.

2016-04-08 Thread Michelle's Home Emails
Hi Anders,

Michelle Stevens here,

Not sure if my advise is any good for answering your question?

On the IPhone I use Braille display with iBooks all the time.

To change pages I use the right rocker button on my focus 14. To go top of
page
I use space bar and dots 123 and arrow until I get to the text. If you are a
quick Braille reader I sometimes use second and third fingers swipe down screen
to read pages continuously without stoping. It is easy to loose your spot
because VO is reading quickly.

Good luck

Re: Apple ID And Apple Watch

2016-04-08 Thread Scott
The watch uses the ID that the phone is logged in to so log the phone in to the
ID you want to use. I believe that’s your only option but perhaps someone else
has a better idea.

Re: recovering lost files

2016-04-08 Thread Jenine Stanley
Thanks Chris, I’m planning some duplication next time, including another host
with his own recording equipment at his end.

As far as worrying about Skype and Audio Hijack, I’m not completely ruling out
operator error on this one as all the other files I’ve saved and sessions I’ve
recorded with these two programs have saved themselves just fine.

I’m tending to think this is an issue with my MBP and large files. It will open
them if they already exist but not if say it’s the first time they are opened
after recording, or if a large file is changed in some way.

The retake of the interview will be done on my iMac, which does not have this
issue.

Re: recovering lost files

2016-04-08 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Back in the day some studios I knew always had a separate DAT recorder
or the like running just in case the big Protools rig went down. It was
kind of a safety net so you at least had "something" instead of nothing.
Of course the system would always have an issue on the take where the
voiceover talent got the perfect inflection or the bass player didn't
come in late :) So, depending on how valuable or irreplaceable your
recordings are you might want to consider some external hardware. For
critical recordings there are boxes like the Denon DN-500R which can
record concurrently to both a USB thumb drive and compact flash memory
card so if the thumb drive dies you don't lose everything.

For the Web Conferencing type solutions (I think even skype has a

How To Set A VoiceOver Activity for Notification Center info

2016-04-08 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I just posted the following information in an existing thread, a few moments
ago. I believe I posted this information to the list a couple of years ago,
also. However, because I think it important, I am posting it again, in this
thread for those who may not be aware of the feature.

How To Set A VoiceOver Activity for Notification Center info

NOTE:
This document assumes that you know how to create and configure VoiceOver
Activities.

Generally speaking, I prefer my default system VO Voice to be Alex.
However, I want any and all of my system notifications to use my beloved
Samantha voice.

The short answer:

To set a VoiceOver Activity for the Mac OSX Notification Center, when
selecting a finder app in the Activity configuration process, simply locate
the Notification Center app and select it. The notification app is located
in the Core Services Folder of the Library folder which is located on the
hard drive's system folder.

The long answer is that when you Click on the Find App option during the
Activity creation process, you will be placed in the Applications folder.
The Notification Center app is located in a different place. You must find
the correct folder and then simply select the Notifications.app file.

A.
First, open the computer's hard drive.
Second, open the System folder.
Third, open the Library folder.
Fourth, open the CoreServices folder.
Fifth, select the Notification.app file.

or

B.
Use the Command + Shift + G key-combo and type in
/System/Library/CoreServices/
to get to the correct folder, super fast.

Good Luck and Enjoy.

Mark

You will find audio hijack in the list and if your file was recorded, it will

Re: El Capitan and VoiceOver.

2016-04-08 Thread Devin Prater

I've often wondered how good the Windows 10 is.

Dictated from Voice Dream Mail.

positively shines in those spaces.

I have for a while now been wondering what to do about OS X (or “macOS”, as it
will soon be known). I wondered if perhaps I should go the “Hackintosh” route,
or bring the Mac VM to Windows; then, the hardware could at least be as
mediocre as the software, but at least I’d be getting what I paid for and I
could seriously up the specs for less money. Naturally, this would deprive
Apple of the money they need to do further development, but let’s be honest
here, that’s already the case. I do love the Mac hardware though, at the moment
at least, and do think the experience would suck quite a bit compared to using
that; whether improving on Windows by using macOS is something I could do with
cheaper hardware isn’t something I’ll really know until I try it, but I have
had these terrible thoughts quite regularly now, particularly now that I have a
Windows VM on near-permanent standby. In that light, I sent a feedback to
Apple, asking them very nicely if they wouldn’t mindcharging a premium for a
version of their OS that wouldn’t need Mac hardware and was optimised for a VM
environment, such as one might find on a developer’s workstation or on a fully
virtualised service cluster in a datacentre. I expect they’ll reply about the
same time as Satan drives to work in a snowplough. :)

The Windows screen readers are really the only reason to have Windows. Stable
or not, they are under active development, and that does make a difference. You
just don’t get issues like not being able to edit in certain text fields, at
least not for very long after release. This is the downside of internalising
screen reader development, even though the technology itself is clearly
superior. Even Windows now uses the same technology; Microsoft’s own APIs are
relied upon by Microsoft’s own screen reader, and non-exclusively by other
screen readers. It’s becoming easier and easier to skip upgrades to your
favourite commercial screen reader and get away with it. If you have
virtualisation, anything is possible in Windows, and you get to keep the screen
readers. I will wait to see what macOS looks like, and then, finally, I will
act positively and decisively in my self-interest. I hate the Win10 privacy
situation, but Win8.1 is still supported until 2023, and all my Mac hardware
isHaswell or less. Because it’s all Mac, I can run OS X (or macOS) legally on
the hardware or in a VM in Windows. I’ll do the setup once, image the drive,
and try very hard not to notice that I’m running Windows. :)

A “Fusion Drive” is nought but a hard disk and an SSD glued together in
software using CoreStorage. OS X will then migrate data as necessary. If you
want to manipulate those separately, or erase them / TRIM them, you’ll have to
use Terminal from a separate environment. If you want my advice: split the
Fusion drive back up, and use them as separate disks, and micromanage what’s on
each disk yourself. It’s harder work, but it’s generally more reliable. Use
“diskutil cs delete ‘Macintosh HD’” and mind that you’ll lose everything!

or not, they are under active development, and that does make a difference.
You just don’t get issues like not being able to edit in certain text fields,
at least not for very long after release. This is the downside of
internalising screen reader development, even though the technology itself is
clearly superior. Even Windows now uses the same technology; Microsoft’s own
APIs are relied upon by Microsoft’s own screen reader, and non-exclusively by
other screen readers.
I hate the Win10 privacy
situation, but Win8.1 is still supported until 2023, and all my Mac hardware is
Haswell or less.

Re: El Capitan and VoiceOver.

2016-04-08 Thread Terje Strømberg
I want to try something in disk tools. So i have done a few Time Machine
backups to Time Capsule. Then i connected an Sandisk 128GB ssd with thunderbolt
cable. Erased the Sandisk. Restarted the iMac, helkd down command-r, installed
from Time Machine backup on the Sandisk ssd with thunderbolt connection. For
normal use i.e. reading emails, listen to Radium, internet browsing and
internet tv it works fine. iMacs fusion drive is now the external drive. It is
encrypted. A dialog box after start up ask me if i want to open the fusion
drive with the password.

but it makes me think, maybe it is possible to take this drive and connect it
to another mac and chose it as start up disk. Carry around an ssd mac. This was
a fun experience for me, but the reason for doing this failed. I was hoping
that when the osx was inside the external ssd i got the option of a button that
lets me secure erase the fusion drive «mcintosh hd» with zeros. Sometimes with
external disk or some partitions this secure erase button appears in the
dialog. I was thinking that El Capitan would run even better with the backup
image from Time Machine on top of a secure erased hard drive would be good.

Take care

win10 bootcamp, mac hd partition not showing up

2016-04-08 Thread Juan Hernandez
Hi All,

On my MacBook Pro, I have windows 10 in a bootcamp. There I cansee the
Macintosh HD partition and can get files from it. On my iMac, same setup,
win10 on bootcamp, I can’t seem to find my Macintosh HD partition. Does anyone
have any ideas?

Best,

Juan
