Question: How To Disable Auto-Complete in Safari in El Capitan?

2016-07-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

When I begin typing in a URL in the Safari location bar (Command+L), the
auto-complete kicks in; I really don't like this feature.

How can I disable this feature?

I looked in Safari preferences but cannot seem to find the necessary option.

Could this, perhaps, be a system-wide setting?

All replies greatly appreciated.

Yeah I know of things like that but how if you are trying to work on a remote

How possible would it be to enable a facetime session via a terminal connection

Gmail question

2016-07-22 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
This may or may not have anything to do with the Mac, but I am curious why I
find multiple copies of messages I have sent in the trash. I did not use my
Gmail account much until I discovered the ease with which one could go through
list traffic in Mail and started using it for subscriptions.

a VM sound question

2016-07-22 Thread Bill Holton
Hi.
Usually I use a USB sound card for my Mac, but today I had to temporarily
relocate, so I connected an old wired external speaker to my mini today, and
although the Mac side sounds fine, the VM side is so scratchy, I can't use
it. I have a lot of lockups on the Windows 7 and 10 side, and now I am
beginning to wonder if it has something to do with the sound processing. I
seem to recall a long time ago someone posting a config file line you could
add to a VM config file to give the audio more power. Does anyone recall
the steps, or have similar issues?

Thanks.
Bill

adding location to FB pages

2016-07-22 Thread Vaughn Brown
Hi everyone,

Hope all is well. I am trying to add a location to my FB page. Already
I tried setting the page as local businesses and company/organization.
All I can see is a website address field but no location field. I read
some FB help tips but the steps are not accessible. I've tried using
my Windows with Jaws, Mac with Voiceover, and apparently the pages
settings cannot be modified from the iPhone -- that is what it states
on the FB help center page.

Your insight would be very helpful.

Best,
Vaughn

Hi Saqib,
1 you download your books using safari from the audible website.
2 move the file from your downloads folder to your audio books folder.
3 launch itunes hit add to library and point it at that folder. It
will ask for your audible user name and password. And you're done!

Suggestions for development environment for coding in Perl/Python and R

2016-07-22 Thread Fatemeh Haghighi
Hi everyone, I am wanting to get back in coding after a long lapse and
wanted suggestions for what are good development environments accessible by
the blind programmer community. I will be analyzing genomics data generated
in my lab so I will be using Perl or Python for scripting and R for
statistical analysis. I had used Emacs in the past but with the Mac
keyboard I thought VI/VIM might be easier to use. Are there any extensions
or configurations that anyone has made to make them more VO friendly? I am
also open to other development environments, as I will have some learning
curve in picking up VI so I will just as well consider something else.
Thank you.

index from Windows to Mac. I do not want to do that just to find out it doesn't
work. When the full product comes out, I suppose they will have a list of
supported printers. At least I hope so.

Re: [macvoiceover] [duxnews] DBT for Mac BETA now for sale

2016-07-22 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
I was delighted with this news and very willing to buy in if it meant I could
dispense with my cracked Windows machine. However, my first experience with
the demo was not good. The show-stopper was not being able to send the
translated document to my old Juliet Classic. DBT recognizes it but will not
actually send a document to it. VO navigation is a bit flakey and utterly
worthless in a translated document. I do not have a braille display. That
might have made the difference. The real issue for me though was not being
able to emboss. I’m glad I tried the demo first. From the email exchange I
had with support, I would suggest waiting at least until the next beta version
is released before bothering with it, but depending on what you want to do with
it and what equipment you have, your results may vary.

Re: [macvoiceover] [duxnews] DBT for Mac BETA now for sale

2016-07-22 Thread Mary Otten
I have the windows version. And navigation with a screen reader without a
braille display in that version in a translated document is also worthless. I
would expect that to be the case unless you have a braille display. I could not
find anywhere a list of supported printers. I have an index basic D version
three. I wonder if that one is supported. I'm still not going to buy a beta.
But eventually, if they iron out all the bugs. Maybe.

Hi,

Or you could just do a FaceTime audio call instead. No need for video in this
case. If you are wishing for video as part of your FaceTime call, then a

Re: remote access

2016-07-22 Thread Tim Kilburn
Simon,

As far as I can recall, the best way to do it is to have both a FaceTime
session and your Screen Sharing session going at the same time. So, you'll
have control of the computer and the audio will be heard through the FaceTime
session. Otherwise, I don't believe that the sound can be routed through to
your computer.

Re: Tuneskit Audiobook Converter

Hi Saqib,
Audible books play on ITunes without any apps added. Just get an
audible account, download whatever book you want, and import it into
ITunes. The software I wrote about takes DRM out of audible and ITunes
audio books and converts them to mp3.

2016-07-22 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi List,

I know I've asked this before but can't remember what the outcome was.

Is there any way for a totally blind person to remote desktop or VNC control
another Mac computer using voiceover over the remote connection?

I know I can do this fine with windows using Jaws over the RDP connection
But I need a way of doing this with my mac computers.I believe terminal is an
option using command line but my knowledge of commands for this type of thing
is not up to scratch as yet.

Any information would be appreciate.

RE: Logitech K800 Keyboard

2016-07-22 Thread Simon Fogarty
I've also got the apple magic2 wifi keyboard, which I've got paired to my iPad
and my mac mini,
And I also have an apple wired computer with a usb extension cable so I can use
it from further away than the standard cable gives.

Or whatever floats your boat (or ark for some). I never had one of those
laptops. Well the beauty of it all is that there are as many choices as there
are individuals.

And the day may well come when technology will provide a wireless link to
our minds. I will let someone else have a go at that. Its too like the 666
stuff. (smiles)

I use that Logitech keyboard on my air, my mini and my windows servers when I
