Ah, good tip about the two-finger double-tap. I didn’t know that would work,

Re: Sending messages with Apple Watch.

2016-08-30 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
When I use to have the watch, I learnt also that you could double tap with two
fingers and the message would go. Like I said in a previous post, I want the
new generation of Watch. If it doesn’t come out or it isn’t coming out I’ll
have to get a Steel watch as I won’t buy the sports model this time after my
last experience with the sports one. Everyone says that Apple are talking
about a new watch Generation. One with a Camera. Even though I can’t see, I’d
like one just to be the same as my sighted peers.

Re: Mail Signatures in iCloud a perplexing situation and extremely frustrating.

2016-08-30 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
I’m up for that. If we could have one signature for all devices as I couldn’t
even find the one on my I phone which said ‘sent from my I phone’ looked in all
the usual places Settings, ICloud, mail, don’t know if I missed anything. We
should say to Apple or state to Apple that we’d like to set up one signautre
which will then be available on all our devices for those of us who use ICloud.

Re: Sending messages with Apple Watch.

2016-08-30 Thread Jenny Wood
Hi,

This tripped me up in the beginning, too. When you have the message up with
the “Don’t Send” button, all you need to do is press the Crown button on the
side of the watch, and that will send your message. You should even hear the
“swoosh” when the message sends.

Sending messages with Apple Watch.

2016-08-30 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I don’t get the send message feature to work on my Apple Watch.
When the text is dictated i have a message on the apple watch saying that i
send this message.
Then comes the message and then a don’t send button.
Where is the send button?
Doesn’t it work without bluetooth?
Thanks.

Is there still a lite version of Voice Dream Reader?

2016-08-30 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

I'm fielding a question for a K-12 teacher. There used to be a less expensive
version of Voice Dream Reader. Does anyone know if that version still exists,
and if it does, what features from the full version it is missing?
thanks,
Donna

Re: Mail Signatures in iCloud a perplexing situation and extremely frustrating.

2016-08-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
This does bring up an interesting issue. It would not be too difficult for
Apple to create an alternative method to associate signatures with
Accounts. They do this for contacts and mail messages with out needing to
do drag and drop. Anybody up for a Perhaps we can set up a petition
somewhere of features that would improve accessibility for blind Apple
users. That would certainly be more efficient than sending in 100's of
individual requests.
What do you all think?

Re: Moving by page in Text Edit/Pages/etc?

2016-08-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Note on the rest of this message, in several places below Alex speaks "the
fifth" where I typed a Vee character.

I was thinking about this, and realized that the standard editor
functionality of MacOS will simulate Emacs keystrokes.

What this means is that control-V moves down a page, and meta-V as defined
in standard emacs moves up a page. I was able to get the control-V to work
I believe, but either I am forgetting my emacs commands after several years
of non-use or something else is going on.

Does anybody remember where the definition file for this is? This is code
that MacOs inherited from the NeXT systems. I expect that there is a "vi
mode still around somewhere and for those of that persuasion wouldn't it be
nice to have VI commands in textedit and mail composition?

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Mail Signatures in iCloud a perplexing situation and extremely frustrating.

2016-08-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The signatures are likely synced across your machines via iCloud. So, it will
propagate to each machine that you have iCloud Mail services enabled. These
signatures created on other machines will propagate to the All Signatures
section but not necessarily to the specific account. It can be moved to that
account with some work, but I don't believe that it is an automatic process.

HTH.

Hi.

I made a discovery but am very frustrated with it.

Using my I Mac, I created a signature (as you will have read) so no need for
detail. However, when using my Mac Mini which is on the same network as it’s
in my bed room upstairs, if I go to mail preferences all signatures, I can read
my signature which is in my all signatures tables. Please understand that in
the first instance I made sure the original signature was associated with my
iCloud account. But when going back in to the body of my new message, I can’t
select that signature even though the signature can be read in mail
preferences. Does anyone know why this is the case? I know you must select an
account for the signature to be associated with but my original signature is
associated with my I cloud account and I should not be able to read it with my
Mac Mini but I can. I hope this is making sense to someone.

Thank you.

Kawal.

RE: Using Apple TV the fourth generation without a TV

2016-08-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Kawal,

The HDMI port is a similar size to USB
It has more of a D shape to it but the ends tend to have angles sliced off to
give it that D shape.

About 0.75 % of an inch or 20 mm long give or take,
The port or ports could be on the side / edge or rare of the tv my Samsung
tv is 8 years old an LED tv and it has 4 HDMI ports,

As well as 1 optical 2 USB and a few others including vga

Hi Tim.

I don’t know what one of those ports are or what they look like. If someone
has one of these Samsung TV’s could you tell me please which is the port for
the Apple TV forth Gen so that if I do get one eventually then I’ll be able to
use it. However, I’m not sure why one of these TV’s would benefit me apart
from playing my I phone content on my Samsung TV. I’m not in to netflicks or
any other subscription provider so would only want it for free content. At the
moment I don’t know why I’d want one of those TV’s, unless you want to play
your Itune content on it.

Thanks.

Hi,

The Apple TV simply connects with an HDMI cable. Therefore, it should be no
problem plugging it into a Samsung or any other TV model for that matter as
long as it has HDMI input. It is extremely difficult to plug it into the
incorrect port on the back of the TV as the HDMI cable will only fit into the
HDMI port on the TV.

Whether you can do this with the tv I can't say

My apple tv 4 is only connected to my Samsung tv, where as with the apple tv 2
I had an optical connector which allowed me to connect to my Logitech stereo

Apple viz. recently published a podcast done by Lisa Sullenger on this topic.
She mentions a specific HDMI to audio converter that she used with her stereo.
The one thing she did not touch upon in her podcast has to do with an issue
that has been raised on these lists before regarding the usability of this
system with video content that is protected. I can't remember the name of the
specification or coding or whenever it is involved that must be seen in order
for the AppleTV to pick up the content. Generally, if the AppleTV is not
connected to an actual video output which is actually turned on, you can't get
a lot of this protected video content. So I am wondering about this system with
