RE: Some MP4 Videos Will Not Play on Apple TV 4th Generation

2016-10-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello E.T.,

To say that such a thing does not happen on the 3rd generation would not be
necessarily accurate as, once upon a time, back in 2013, I believe, there were
problems upgrading from the 2nd gen to the third.

A more accurate answer is that the videos that will not currently play on the
4th do play on the 3rd.

To date, no one has discerned a common denominator as to which will play and
which will not.

The only people who have offered an explanation is Apple and there theory does
not hold up in the real world. I am certain that someone at Apple can resolve
the problem, but, to date, no solution has been published.

What I find most annoying is that the mp4 videos, in question, play in iTunes
and on all Apple devices, except the 4th generation Apple TV.

Once upon a time it was made clear, by Apple no less, that anything that will
play in iTunes will play on all of their devices. Apparently, this is true, no
longer.

Mark,
I do not have a 4th. Does this happen with the 3rd? Curious if the videos
that will not play have something in common, such as where you got them, if
they were ripped/converted, etc.

In the next day or so I can try this as part of testing my new Sierra
installation.

Hi Nicolas. how are you? To answered your question, if you go to the message
app and go to the right top corner you will find more info button. I just try
it and I am I'm running iOS 10 on my iPhone sixeS. And after you double tap
on more info button, you will flick right or swipe right untill you her the
phone number of the person, when you her that, then you will be able to create
a new contact. For instance, you will hear the phone number, nd beside it more
contact information. But you need to lisen to it carefully. Then you double tap
on it, dn you willl find share contact, and create new contact and so on. Hope
this helps! I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thanks And God bless!

Re: Selecting text from web pages in Safari

2016-10-06 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Larry,

I use various strategies for selecting text in Safari because different pages
behave differently.
1. Using Quick Nav, set the rotor to Lines and hold down the Shift key and
press the Down Arrow.
2. Without Quick Nav, press VO-Return to start selecting text, navigate right
with the VO keys and press VO-Return to end selection.
3. Make VoiceOver read the text required then press VO-Shift-c to copy the last
spoken phrase to the clipboard.

Cheers,

Anne

Adding Message Sender to Contacts in iOS 10

2016-10-06 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi List,

In iOS 10 Messages app, how do you add the sender of a message to Contacts? I
used to tap on the more button in the top right corner, then there would be a
more contact info button or something like that, and then there would be the
options to create new contact or add to existing contact. But I don’t see those
options anymore in iOS 10.

In iTunes, there is an option to make Apple TV versions of videos. However,
when many of us attempt to do this, we receive the message that the videos

I'm going to paste in a URL to an apple discussion that highlights this

Fortunately for me, I don't have many mp4 videos that don't play but, still,
how annoying especially when all play just fine on other devices, including
Apple TV 3rd generation.

You might want to consider the infuse app. There is a free version, and the
pro version costs 10 bucks. It is well worth it though. You can play any
format of video, MP4, MKV, AVI, DVIX, and more. And the best part? If you
have a NAS, or USB drive connected to your router, you don’t need your mac or
PC powered on to stream these videos. I love it, my 14TB library of movies and
TV shows stream with no issues. And yes, it is 100 percent accessible. Also,
it finds meta data for you so it can give you the year, jonarah, and
disscription of the movie or TV show. I give this app a 5 out of 5 stars and 2
thumbs up! Been using it since December and love it!

Please Join Me in Making an iOS Feature Request That Will Greatly Benefit Low Vision Users

2016-10-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Please join me in requesting that the "Appearance" feature, currently
available in tvOS, be added to iOS.

In an effort to reduce redundancy, you will find more details on the
Appearance option in the request that I have already submitted to apple
which you will find below my signature.

Please feel free to use or modify it for your submission.

Thank you,

Mark

[BEGIN REQUEST]
FEATURE REQUEST: Please Add the Appearance Option, Now Available in tvOS,
to iOS

On the Apple TV 4th Generation, running the latest commercial release of
tvOS, from the General Settings area, there is an item labeled "Appearance."
As described on Apple TV, this feature allows one to select the color scheme
of menus choosing either light text on a dark background or dark text on a
light background.

This is a marvelous addition to the OS as it greatly reduces the number of
times low-vision users have to switch between the screen display using the
Invert Color option.

Please add this feature to iOS.
[END REQUEST]

Speaking Bar in IOS10

2016-10-06 Thread Marcia Yale
I have noticed, since updating to IOS10, that often when I exit from the AT
Bat app by pressing the home button I get a message with two buttons:
"minimize speaking bar" and "stop". Does any of you know what this refers
to? If I press the first one, it changes its name to "expand speaking bar",
but nothing really helpful seems to happen!

Re: I need my mac to stop sleeping, and how can i know the time on the fly?

2016-10-06 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The password being asked is just because the screen went to sleep, not because
the computer did. So, even though it asks you for your password, the computer
should still be doing things in the background. That is just a security thing
to help keep your Mac more safe. Yes, the Keyboard commander should be turned
on.

when you're connected to power. They are independent of each other. I
recommend that you do not set it to never when on battery power, but set it to
never when connected to power. This is how I have mine set, so that if I'm
doing something that will take some time, I simply plug in the adaptor, whereas
when on battery power, it will still sleep to conserve battery life. Your
settings should work as you set them and should not require a third party app.

Regarding your second question, Georgina's answer works, just remember that it
needs to be the right option key with the letter t.

Selecting text from web pages in Safari

2016-10-06 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
Before the latest update to Safari in El Capitan, I was able to use shift and
arrow keys to select text on a web page and copy it to the clipboard. This
could be done on any text, not just that inside of edit boxes. After the
upgrade, this almost never works. pressing the arrow keys doesn’t yield any
speech from Voiceover. I started to ask this once before and all of a sudden
it worked so I abandoned the question. But it was just that once. I haven’t
been able to do it since. Can anyone tell me why and how to get around the
problem?

Re: Reading kindle books on Mac OS or converting to other formats

2016-10-06 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello David etc.

It’s a very clunky experience and I’m probably making it harder for myself than
necessary.

1. Buy a book from Amazon
2. Open Kindle for Mac and press enter on my new purchase so it is pulled down
on to the Mac’s HD.
3. Open Kindle DRM removal and select the new book and remove it’s DRM.
4. Then from the terminal use the calibre ebook-convert command to generate
whatever format I require. For my recipe books I like to be able to search so I
convert to plain text. Others I use epubl

That’s it in a nutshell. The DRM removal tool is an app that offers a free demo
period but then a licence has to be purchased.

Regards,

Gena

Re: youtube on the mac

2016-10-06 Thread Alex Hall
You can also use 1 through 0 to skip to 10%, 20%, 30%, and so on. Up and down
arrows will change the volume, though you must have the VO setting to pass
arrows directly to the webpage enabled (I suggest a keyboard commander).

Re: Reading kindle books on Mac OS or converting to other formats

2016-10-06 Thread David Griffith
The last time I tried I could get no Voiceover output book reading using
the Kindle app and there appeared no MacOS Accessibility TTS plug in as
available on Windows.

I believe some people use Calibre via command line interface to make the
Kindle books accessible. I would welcome step by sep instructions here
as well.

On the PC, there is a program called Codex that can be used to convert Kindle
books to other formats such as Word or HTML. Is there a program like this for
Mac OS? If not, is there at least a way to read Kindle books with VoiceOver?

2016-10-06 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Helga,

Yes Under setting,
Then icloud
Then under your name / apple icloud details,
Then click on password and then work your way down and you should find two
factor authentication
It’s not obvious but ti’s there.

Yes, the beta doesn’t matter. Go to settings, iCloud, view apple ID, and open

Ok so two factor authentication uses both your password and a code sent to one
of your trusted devices to sign into your Apple ID from a new device, to make
changes to your Apple ID over at
appleid.apple.com
or you use the services over at
www.icloud.com
this replaces the security questions you are asked for when two factor
authentication is turned off. With both the password and a unique code being
required to sign in, this protects the data on your account, as well as your
account overall, from being compromised.
