The one limitation is that this does not work to enable voiceover in recovery,
think i will stick to regular function keys.

Hi,

If you don’t want to use the Touch Bar to adjust the system volume you can use
the vo keys and the dash key to lower the volume and the vo and the equals key
to raise the volume. The dash and equals are on the standard numbers row.

Hi Tim. I actually didn't make the Battery Status script. I downloaded it a few
years ago, coincidentally, from this list when someone else shared it.

Re: Mac book pro touch bar

2017-01-15 Thread Kevin Chao
"You can use the number row in place of function keys, simply by holding
down function and pressing the number you want. For example, our vo-cmd-f5
command would be the VO modifier, command key, function key, and the number
5. It is important to note that this extends to the accent key, above the
tab key; pressing this with the function key is the same as pressing
escape."

Re: iPhone glucose meter recommendation

2017-01-15 Thread John JD Denning
Thanks everybody for your comments. Yes I started with Google searches, and
have found a number. But I've not read any comments by blind users. It looks
like there's one in development now that's very promising and one that I found
that looked really great but it only works with older iPhones. I'm gonna keep
looking. I do have a prodigy that I just received. Haven't even used it yet.
Just put in the batteries and it talks. I've been using for years and Accu Chek
compact. And what I love about that is that holds a canister that contain 17
strips. So I never have to mess with strips. I love that for the convenience
factor. But it doesn't talk at all.

So I'll keep looking for the perfect solution. And if any of you find a perfect
solution please let me know. Thanks.

I purchased an Acer ChromeBook last year. ChromeVox, the ChromeBook's screen
reader is basic. I played with it about four weeks ago, and it is still to
basic for anything but the simplest of web work. I cannot recommend the
ChromeBook for any blind person. It is still too limited.

One from the above google appears to be an apple product. One factor is
the cost of strips. Actual meters are often given away because they know
the real money is in the strips which can vary greatly in price.

Also check with your insurance company because they often will only
support certain meters and strips.

Re: sierra and battery status

2017-01-15 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If your Mac is charging, then the battery status is announced by VO, if not,
then you have a few options. You can ask Siri, works but problematic in a
meeting or other public venue. You can go to System Prefs in the Energy Saver
pane and it is available there. Also, in the Activity Monitor. Finally, there
is a script that Shaun made available that will, in conjunction with a Keyboard
Commander setting, announce the battery status by pressing right option-b.

Re: Mac book pro touch bar

2017-01-15 Thread Robert Carter
Hi,

If you don’t want to use the Touch Bar to adjust the system volume you can use
the vo keys and the dash key to lower the volume and the vo and the equals key
to raise the volume. The dash and equals are on the standard numbers row.
