Re: Changing the writing from left to right, to right to left, and something about footnotes

2017-03-22 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

First, apparently the direction of a paragraph will be the direction of the
language of the first character in the paragraph. So, if you are not mixing
languages in paragraphs you should be in good shape.

In pages, a(at least after I enabled Hebrew), there is a menu item under
format->Text to reverse the direction of the selection. Certainly not as easy
as the keystrokes. I also looked at the keyboard shortcut settings area and
there is no way to redefine the keystrokes to control text direction. So, a
suggestion to the Accessibility folks could be to allow the
control-option-command-arrow keystrokes to be remapped in the language area of
keyboard shortcuts. Otherwise you are stuck with the format menu, or turning
off VoiceOver changing the direction and then turning on VoiceOver.

I even looked to see if I could find a way to adjust this with AppleScript.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Hi,

Sounds like ypou have 2 step verification enabled on your account. Try
disabling it and see what happens. JMO 2 step verification coses more

 my suggestion is as follows:
why apple can not try to give us a place to put a start and end mark

we can just put a starting mark, and move by word or lines, then put
 an end mark.

 Need to know your opinions.

RE: New iMac, A Bit slow and Sluggish

2017-03-22 Thread 'Jim Fettgather' via MacVisionaries
This is a spinning hard drive, but a brand new Mac.
Fortunately, as others have suggested, it settled itself in after a day or so
and is now running lightning fast.
Thanks.

What kind of disk are you using, SSD or regular rotating/. Also is this a new
IMAC or a used older model?

Thank you

2017-03-22 Thread Phil Halton
I also have a sluggishness problem in TextEdit save dialogue, and my solution
has been to turn voiceover off and then back on again. This seems to bring
everything back right. I am running Sierra on a MacBook air with eight gig ram.
Although I don't think the ram or even the model of computer is an issue.

Hi,
What model of Mac do you have? I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro and ever since I
have updated to Sierra I find everything to be very sluggish and get busy
messages in most apps. The only solution I have been able to come up with or
been given would be to upgrade my ram from four gigs to eight.
I would also be very interested to hear if anyone else on this list as any
other suggestions or solutions.
Thank you,

2017-03-22 Thread Nancy Badger
Hi everyone,
Since I have upgraded to see Aira, I have noticed that text edit is very
sluggish when opening and saving documents. It takes for ever to arrow through
the dialog box. In fact I am writing this email why I am waiting on it to catch
up. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is about to drive me crazy since I
use it quite a bit.
Thanks in advance

What kind of disk are you using, SSD or regular rotating/. Also is this a new

Re: just a suggestion, Selecting on Iphone

2017-03-22 Thread Thuy Mallalieu
Hi Ramy. Have you been able to put the text selection option into the rotor? If
so, this should work in an email message, on a safari web page, in a note text
field etc. It doesn't seem to work in the messages app if you are reading
someone else's message, but if you are composing a message, it works in the
edit field. So if you just want to select 2 words, first set the rotor to
words, then swipe up or down to the word you want to start selecting from. Then
turn the rotor to text selection. Now swipe up or down till it says word
selection. Now swipe right and it will speak out the word to be selected. Swipe
right again and it selects the next word. Now turn the rotor to edit. Now swipe
up or down till it says copy. This copies the selection to the clipboard. Now
go to the document or message you want to paste the selection into. You might
need to double tap in the edit field to make sure that quick nav is turned off
and you are ready to paste into the text area. You might have to double tap a
couple of times to make sure you are either at the start or end of the field.
Otherwise if you want to paste in the middle of the text, then turn the rotor
to words, and swipe up or down to where you want to paste the selection. Now
turn the rotor to edit and swipe up or down till it says paste. Finally double
tap, and the selected text should be inserted at that point. Hope this explains
ok.
Cheers
Thuy

2017-03-22 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello:
Thanks so much for that.
1st time for me to know that this feature was added.
but, it will work just in the text that am writing not any text that
am reading. and also,
can you give me more explnations please?
I tried it but with no success.
if I have a small sentence like "Good Morning my Friends".
I need to select only the 2 words "my friends", what shall I do?

Thanks again
