Re: iTunes next song AppleScript via UI Scripting.

2017-04-28 Thread Des Delgadillo
Hi,
I’m not too familiar with Apple Script, but what you have in the line you sent
looks good.

Having it pause at end of song would be a great added function.

Thanks again for your help. I hope this script gets added to the repository.

 Hi Jonathan,
Sorry for the delay in responding.
Thank you for the script. Getting the song information in a dialogue box
would be fine, it would even be ok if VO just read out the song title
 without displaying a dialogue.
I have limited scripting knowledge but I will try to run this script
today. Can I just copy and paste the text of your script into the script
 editor?
 Thanks again for doing this.

RE: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-04-28 Thread Simon Fogarty
FTP ssh and working on an exchange email system currently
Also have streaming media through atv and EMBY to devices as for VOIP only use
that if on my mobile from facetime
Other than that not really a lot outside of RDP and playing with different
thigns online either from home to work or vise versa.

Might setup a test ipv6 netwokr and have a play using some vm's I've got.

Is IPv6 worth the bother? Well, that depends on what you do, of course.

If all you do is browse the web and pick up email somewhere, the answer is
probably no.

If your home systems do voip or host any services, including just listening for
ssh, there's a solid benefit. And, this benefit is magnified if more than one
of your home LAN machines are hosting. My personal example is my work desk
where there's a SIP handset that looks to all the world like an ordinary
business phone, but is actually a computer connected by cat ethernet cable to
my router. I also use a soft SIP client on my main desktop, so I have two
phones right there that need to make, and more importantly recieve calls. The
recieving is the benefit. On IPv4 you're writing NAT rules. With 6 you forget
all about NAT.

Another example ... When I turned off ssh over 4, my hack attempts dropped to
zero, literally. Nowadays I only turn on ssh over 4 on my server, and then only
when traveling because I can't be sure of IPv6 access where I travel.

Another example ... If you want to access files on your home LAN from your
mobile while you're out and about, you're going to find it far simpler and far
more secure to do that over 6, and not at all over 4.

So, it depends.

Hi,

Yes, you are correct, this is possible in OS X on the Mac. In iOS though, the
Language item is not part of the rotor choices when an external keyboard is
used.

Re: iTunes next song AppleScript via UI Scripting.

2017-04-28 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

OK, I have made the script work a little better and am almost ready to send
a new copy out.

Please update the below line with what you would want spoken:

*set* TextToSspeak *to* SongName & " by " & ArtistName & " on album " &
AlbumName

Currently I have only tested this with Billy Joel and Bob Dylan, if you are
working with more classical types of music please also give me a couple
examples that I can play from Apple Music so I can make sure everything
gets filled out correctly,.

If I remember correctly, you are using this for presentation purposes, so
you might want some other functions available, perhaps pause at end of
current song? Or maybe even the simple

tell Application "iTunes" to play

If anybody wants to explore the AppleScript handlers I would be glad to
discuss.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan

Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-04-28 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Scott:

I have had the same experience with applications. Sometimes it's a
matter of configuration, but usually certain apps just aren't 6 friendly
for whatever reason.

When I first got native 6 I tried a little experiment and turned off 4
entirely just to see whether I could do what I do entirely over 6. I
wasn't particularly happy with the results!

Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-04-28 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Is IPv6 worth the bother? Well, that depends on what you do, of course.

If all you do is browse the web and pick up email somewhere, the answer
is probably no.

If your home systems do voip or host any services, including just
listening for ssh, there's a solid benefit. And, this benefit is
magnified if more than one of your home LAN machines are hosting. My
personal example is my work desk where there's a SIP handset that looks
to all the world like an ordinary business phone, but is actually a
computer connected by cat ethernet cable to my router. I also use a soft
SIP client on my main desktop, so I have two phones right there that
need to make, and more importantly recieve calls. The recieving is the
benefit. On IPv4 you're writing NAT rules. With 6 you forget all about
NAT.

Another example ... When I turned off ssh over 4, my hack attempts
dropped to zero, literally. Nowadays I only turn on ssh over 4 on my
server, and then only when traveling because I can't be sure of IPv6
access where I travel.

Another example ... If you want to access files on your home LAN from
your mobile while you're out and about, you're going to find it far
simpler and far more secure to do that over 6, and not at all over 4.

So, it depends.

Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-04-28 Thread Scott Granados
Everything is moving IP v6 here, unfortunately my provider is lagging but
everyone else is moving. Also important to know it for my work. The fact you
no longer need DHCP is a great thing and there’s security built in. The lack
of NAT is also a great thing, none of that ALG transform stuff for SIP. I’m a
big supporter of V6 the more I use it.

Yes, I find installing Sonos products to be straightforward. We really like our

Subject: prayers and leaving this wonderful group for now

Hi fellow listers, moderators, and owners. Hope you are all doing ok.
Unfortunately I have no choice, I have to unsubscribe from all the email groups
I belong to. I haven't been able to check email and be online for a long time
and it seems I will be out of things for much longer. When I turned on my
laptop this morning I had over fifteen thousand emails waiting for me. Given my
situation I just can't keep up anymore. I pray that one day I recover and are
able to join my favourite groups again. My family is against me telling people
what's wrong but I feel in writing this email I'm also helping myself to come
to grips with my illness. I will remain subscribed a few more days so that I
may read your thoughts in hopes that your words might help me to continue to
fight this awful illness.
Again I'm sorry for the off topic post and I hope the moderators can find it in
their hearts to forgive me, and if one day I recover I hope they will remember
me and let me back in to my favourite mailing groups.
Before I tell you all my story, I would like to thank each and every one of you
for either your help on various topics, or your individual private help through
the phone or private email, or your messages of getting to know me, or your
words of encouragement when it came to the mac, jaws, NVDA, windows 10,
household tips, cooking instructions, prayers, and harmless chit chat.
If I offended anyone in anyway, or gave anyone a hard time please forgive me.
Here's my unbelievable story.
Last August I was doing a lot of gardening mostly weeding to be honest. I was
on my hands and knees from morning to night pulling weeds and keeping my
property clean. I am grateful to the good Lord for blessing me to have such a
lovely property but it's old and no one ever took care of the garden. The
result is weeds on top of my weeds. Chemicals are forbidden here in Canada, and
I haven't been able to find an affordable solution, so I'm left with fighting
weeds on a daily bases. I am a sun lover and adore summer, last summer was the
first time in my life that I couldn't wait for summer to be over. I was
exhausted and I have nothing to remember for my 2016 summer except pulling
weeds all most every day for the whole entire spring, summer, and fall.
In August I noticed 2 mosquito bites on my elbow and 2 on my inner left thigh.
The bites were very itchy just like normal mosquito bites, so I didn't think
anything of it. I also noticed my nails were black underneath.
I thought it was dirt from the garden, to spite that I was showering every
single day and cleaning my nails, the next morning they would be filthy again.
Again I thought it strange but I justified it in my head as to much gardening.
In August my husband and I visited a few local restaurants and spent two nights
in a motel in north Ontario for a weekend away.
I wanted to try my hand at building a small business doing something I love so
I decided to start making my own bracelets and selling them online. I have
always loved costume jewellery and to spite my vision problems, I have been
taught that there is nothing I can't do. My mother always said "try and if you
fail, oh well, life goes on. Try different things until you find something you
are good at and you love doing." So I talked to my mom and husband and they
both backed me as they always do. My mother who adores me spent over six
thousand dollars to buy my supplies, and encouraged me on a daily bases. My
husband turned half of my computer room into a work space with special
lighting, magnifying contraptions, shelving, etc. My husband and mom bought me
bins with dividers and I spent months sorting beads and other supplies by
color, size, and type. I got help from someone on one of these mailing lists
and he helped me to create labels to label all these bins. Everything was going
great, or so I thought.
I spent hours teaching myself how to make these beautiful bracelets, I finally
got the hang of it after much trial and error and I was ready to go.
I registered on etsy.com and opened up a Facebook small business page. I bought
more supplies to host a launching party with food, drinks, and gifts for my
guests to introduce them to my creations and my new business. While all this
was happening, I noticed in October that the mosquito bites were not going
away. They had become scabby and even more itchier.
I showed my mom and she justified it just like I had done in my mind. Due to my
type two diabetes

RE: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-04-28 Thread Simon Fogarty
But is it worth while using IP v6 within your own home for instance is it going
to be any benefit to a user?

I know in NZ IP v4 is still in major use but we're a population of 4.5 million,

I have thought I might change the home network to IP V6 just to have a play but
need to ensure that RDP and other related services stay active on my servers so
I don't go losing acess and connectivity.

Good day,
As I'm a System Admin, I, too, prefer IPV6.
However, IPV6 depends on the ISP and the IP pool being pulled from.
Most ISP's still use IPV4 for backwards compatibility for older devices, though
most modem'/router combo's employe both IPV4 and IPV6 support, but this IPV6
support usually is disabled until the ISP fully supports it.
So it's possible that what you may have done is correct, but it's an ISP
problem.

I agree with Scott for the most part. The only problem with Amazon, from the
Aus / NZ perspective, is that Amazon does not support these markets. So, to use
Amazon video, it is necessary to use VPN set to the USA. As for NetFlix, I
consistently find that NetFlix has the best programming (shows) in Aus (when
comparing Aus, NZ, and US). We like the FireStick better than the Apple TV.
Then again, we are mainly using Codi to watch shows which are otherwise
unavailable anywhere else (mainly programming from the 70's to the early
2000's). It is rather fun watching shows I grew up on.

We also enjoy the occasional movie that is still in the cinima.

Apple TV does not allow Codi.

We prefer the FireStick because as a large USB stick, we plug it into one of
the USB ports on the TV for power, whilst connecting it to the HDMI port. When
we turn off the TV, the FireStick is automatically shut down.

Kind regards,
