FS:iMac, iPad Air, iPhone 6s, and avid pro tools.

2017-05-04 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi everybody. I have permission from the admin to send this message to
the list. I am selling an iMac, iPad Air, iPhone 6s, and avid pro
tools for mac OSx.

All the info is below. If interested, please write me off list at:
came...@cameronstrife.com

Thanks,

Cameron.

21 inch Apple iMac with Intel quad core I7 processor at 2.8gHz per
core, 16gb of ddr3 ram, internal 256gb solid state hard drive,
internal 1tb mechanical drive, Intel Thunderbolt, Firewire 800,
airport wireless, bluetooth, sd card reader, superdrive etc. Machine
is in very good condition with no heating issues or hard drive
performance etc. (There is a small dent on the right edge of the
monitor portion but this will not get any worse and does not effect
the display quality according to a couple of sighted people I had
check it out. I can have the glass replaced if you wish. In any case,
it's purely cosmetic.) Keyboard, mouse, and power chord included. I
can also include a 1 terabyte USB 3.0 external hard drive that's
formatted to work with both mac and windows so you can have a three
drive setup for audio/midi work. I have been running OSX Siera and
windows ten on this machine and the performance is really snappy!
Windows seven 64 bit also worked very well on here.

32 gig iPad Air tablet computer with drop proof/weather proof case and
accessories. Latest version of iOS installed.

mint iPhone 6s 16gb with two military grade cases with screen
protectors. Charging cube and lightning cable included. It is tied to
my Verizon number right now but all you need to do is swap the sim
card for yours as it's not locked to a network.

Avid pro tools 12.6 license on an iLok2 dongle. It's a permanent
license so will never expire and includes a bunch of plug ins etc.

Re: Outgoing mail questions

2017-05-04 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I don't think this is possible in Macintosh mail. There was a plugin I have
mentioned in the past that was supposed to be able to hcreate rules on outgoing
messages, but I don't remember the application right now, and I never heard if
it was VO usable.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: using textMate, vim or emacs with speech and braille

2017-05-04 Thread Jonathan Cohn
A I have not noticed lots of space spoken when using VIM, but I usually avoid
it because I can't quite get used to if I need to use the a or i command to
insert just a little bit. I guess when the document is blank it sometimes did
this but not regularly and could be adjusted with verbosity / punctuation.

I tend to use text edit quite a bit for plain text documents and find that
nicer than any of the Windows editors wexcept perhaps EdSharp

In terms of command M being used to minimize your window, there is a way to
turn this off. I believe I set my VM to ignore Macintosh Global keystrokes and
this then prevents that from happening. One side effect that occasionally
happens then is that those commands don't work on the Macintosh side until I
stop Fusion.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Get read of some Voice over speech on the mail app

2017-05-04 Thread Jonathan Cohn
It sounds like you are specifically talking about the table of messages in your
query. I believe I once adjusted which columns were visible with and in what
order with VoiceOVer, but there is also a "Attributes" sub menu in the view
menu which used to allow you to check and uncheck items for the messages table.
I could not get anything but size to show as able to be modified in this menu
with a quick check just now.

Another possibility is to adjust your speech verbosity. I tried low speech
verbosity for a while, but found that with that level I could not determine
what check boxes / radio buttons / list items were selected. But low verbosity
can rely cut down a lot of jabber.

Moderator Approved: Selling Mid 2014 MacBook Pro

2017-05-04 Thread Rachel Feinberg
Hello All:

For sale I have a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro with original box/charger/charging
extension chord.

the specs are as follows:

Intel Core i5 2.6 GHZ processor.

8 gb RAM.

128 GB SSD hard drive.

2 thunderbolt ports, 2 USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port.

SD card slot.

Everything works perfectly well, however, the screen has some
discoloration/distortion. I am unsure as to why, except that this is how I
received it from the previous owners who informed me of this aspect. If you
need an external monitor, it will be best to connect it using the HDMI port to
another display supporting this standard. All other things are in excellent
working order. I am asking $650 which will include shipping in the United
States. IF you require international shipping, feel free to get in touch, and I
would be happy to work with you.

Please email me if interested at:

walksi...@gmail.com

Thanks!

Rachel.

2017-05-04 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

In the windows menu there is a "Mute this window" and Mute a windows actually
the word Window might be tab instead. Since this appears as a menu item, it is
possible to setup a application keyboard shortcut to do this. My memory is
that there is also a button to do this in the tab bar when sound is active.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

RE: Join Me In Requesting Better VoiceOver Access in the Nike+ Run Club App

2017-05-04 Thread M. Taylor
Thank you, Mr. Scott. (I've been watching old episodes of Star Trek (smile)).

Yes, Nike used to be one of the most accessible-minded developers in the App
Store. However, it have long since fallen from VoiceOver grace, as it were.

However, it is important that we make our voices heard.

We really can make a difference.

For example, after receiving a great deal of feedback, Starbucks has finally
made all of its iOS app's features, accessible, including the new Quick Pay
button.

Again, thank you, and all who join in the proverbial accessibility-chorus of
equality.

Mark

Wow, one of Apple’s most visible partners has accessibility issues, not good.
Count me in for sending the developer a request, on the way over now.

Re: Accessibility of cutting the cord

2017-05-04 Thread Des Delgadillo
Usually with Hulu the shows that need a cable login are made available no more
than a day after it airs.
It’s not an Apple product but Chromecast has been my go-to lately, especially
if you have TV shows downloaded to your computer and you use a Chrome plugin
like Video Stream. That works really well on Mac and is super Voiceover
compatible.

Re: Using a projector, Urgent help please

2017-05-04 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I've not used a projector with that specific model, but normally if Mirroring
is not enabled, you will not see the presentation, only the Desktop or some
other items. In System Preferences, in Displays, under the Arrangement tab,
you should have an option to turn mirroring on. If you're unable to make it
work using that, try downloading the Display Menu app from the AppStore. It is
free and gives you options in the Menu Extras for turning Mirroring on/off and
adjusting the resolution.

HTH.

Hi all:

I need to connect my MacBook 2015 to an external projector.
the projector is an old model so it has the VGa cable, i bought a converter

Traci,
Those networks that require you have a cable subscription can still

In my opinion, Apple TV in general was disappointing me to the point I sold my
generation 4. I have a few generation 3 units around if I need iTunes access
and honestly I like the simplicity of that unit and the fact you don’t depend
on application providers to make their products accessible. That being said, I
do like having the apple content available on the phone so have enabled some of
the IOS apps like Netflix, Hulu, cbs and HBO. These seem pretty good.
I do use the Amazon box and that’s becoming very accessible. I haven’t tried
Hulu Live but the basic stuff, cbs, Netflix, Hulu, the native amazon content
and so forth are great.
If you wouldn’t mind could you detail your Roku experience. I’m spending over
$450 per month on internet, tv and cloud DVR service and I’d love to cut out
all the TV costs.

reluctant cord cutters.

My question for the groups are what has been your accessible experience? For
iOS and Apple TV, I’m familiar with Netflix and traditional Hulu. I haven’t
tried either of these services on the Mac.

I’m completely unfamiliar with Sling TV and it’s level of accessibility.
Reading about it this morning though, I like the pricing and channel offerings.

I did some reading about the Roku for my sighted friend, but that accessibility
part is a little off topic for these groups. :)

What has been your experiences? I will say one big drawback of cutting the
cable cord is losing audio description. As far as I’m aware, only Netflix
offers this. It’s too bad on the iOS apps or Apple TV, the networks don’t
include it.

Re: Accessibility of cutting the cord

2017-05-04 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Tracy,

I don't watch those channels, but I think that this isn't an Apple TV problem,
it's a network problem. By that I mean that ABC, Food Network etc. want to
make sure you aren't getting their content for free. I doubt that Apple could
care less. :) I do think that in most cases there is an app you can subscribe
to.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Accessibility of cutting the cord

2017-05-04 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi, I mean on occasion when we want to watch a TV show from a network channel,
it says in order to access this content you need to enter in your cable
provider credentials. That is if I'm going off of channel apps, such as ABC,
Food Network, PBS, etc.

I missed the right numbers while reading the code with voice over, finger

2017-05-04 Thread Nancy Badger
Hi everyone,
I just got done listening to a podcast from Blind Abilities on prismo go for
IOS. During the podcast it was mentioned that there is a prismo for mac os. Has
anyone tried this yet? Is it vo accessible? Is it a good solution for reading
PDFs on the mac? they said it costs about 50.00 dollars so I don’t want to do
it unless others have found it helpful.
Thanks in advance

Re: Accessibility of cutting the cord

2017-05-04 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Tracy and Scott,

Like Kliph, we cut the chord over a year ago now. We also still use our Apple
TV 4th Gen, and have been quite happy with it, though of course, one's
satisfaction with any such device will depend in large degree to what content
one wants to watch. We find most of the shows we want, though we do also have
a library of favorite TV shows and movies. Tracy, not sure what you mean by
being concerned that Apple TV is tied to your cable provider. It is tied to
your ISP, as you need an internet connection, but that would be the same with
any device, so far as I know.
HTH,
Donna

My question for the groups are what has been your accessible experience?
For iOS and Apple TV, I’m familiar with Netflix and traditional Hulu. I
haven’t tried either of these services on the Mac.

I’m completely unfamiliar with Sling TV and it’s level of accessibility.
Reading about it this morning though, I like the pricing and channel

I did some reading about the Roku for my sighted friend, but that
accessibility part is a little off topic for these groups. :)

What has been your experiences? I will say one big drawback of cutting
the cable cord is losing audio description. As far as I’m aware, only
Netflix offers this. It’s too bad on the iOS apps or Apple TV, the
 networks don’t include it.

Thanks for sharing with the group,

Well, I have 2 appleTV4’s, and no cable subscription, and I get most things I
like to watch. I also have a library of movies, TV shows, and music about 15TB
that keep me busy when board. But with Netflix, direct TV now, and my own
collection, I don’t need a cable subscription.

My apologies for the confusion. I have no Rocku experience, I was just reading

What disappoints me about the Apple TV, is how much it is still tied to your
cable provider. I think that's why I am so interested in sling TV, or this new
Hulu Live/DVR service. I'm tempted to sign up for the seven day trial, just to
try it out on the iOS and AppleTV.

Looking forward to other answers,

PS. For those British TV fans in America, I just came across an app called
BritBox. It is created by BBC and I TV. As far as I know, 2 of the biggest

2017-05-04 Thread Scott Granados
So I’m trying to also make this decision, it’s been bothering me for over a
year now. We brought this up a long time ago so I’m glad it’s up for
discussion now. If it’s ok, I would like to include the other non apple
options and contrast how they work against their apple counter parts.
In my opinion, Apple TV in general was disappointing me to the point I
sold my generation 4. I have a few generation 3 units around if I need iTunes
access and honestly I like the simplicity of that unit and the fact you don’t
depend on application providers to make their products accessible. That being
said, I do like having the apple content available on the phone so have enabled
some of the IOS apps like Netflix, Hulu, cbs and HBO. These seem pretty good.
I do use the Amazon box and that’s becoming very accessible. I haven’t
tried Hulu Live but the basic stuff, cbs, Netflix, Hulu, the native amazon
content and so forth are great.
If you wouldn’t mind could you detail your Roku experience. I’m
spending over $450 per month on internet, tv and cloud DVR service and I’d love
to cut out all the TV costs.

Hi,

I've never tried it with a VPS, but essentially, the answer is "No", with some
conditions. The Mac OS does not pass through the audio from the remote device,
thus you're unable to know what is happening on the remote machine. Yes, ARD
will control it just fine, you just won't know what's going on. If OS X Server
is installed on the VPS, then you can administer that Server with the Server
app on your local Mac machine, but the initial installation of the Server
software on the VPS may require sighted assistance. There's also much that can
be accomplished using ssh and Terminal, but regular GUI control with VO will
not work for you. What seems to happen with ARD and VO commands is that VO
will remain in control of the local device and there appears to be no method by
which the VO commands can be redirected and therefore passed through to the
remote client.

If someone knows better, I'd love to be enlightened.

The Hulu live tv service is ok, if you have patients to try and figure out the
layout, things are okay. As for audio description, direct TV now does have

Accessibility of cutting the cord

2017-05-04 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all,

This morning I was doing some research for a friend and it got me thinking
about my own household. For years, I’ve wanted to cut the cable cord. It
looks like Hulu live with cloud DVR might finally be the answer for those
reluctant cord cutters.

It’s too bad on the iOS apps or Apple TV, the networks don’t
include it.

Thanks for sharing with the group,
Traci

Re: apple remote desktop

2017-05-04 Thread Tim Kilburn
Simon,

I'm not sure specifically which VPS he's planning to use, but if you do a
search on Apple VPS, you'll notice some specific results. They seem to be
quite robust systems, but I'm not sure of their usability from an accessibility
prospective. I'm in contact with some folks regarding the passing through of
VO-keystrokes and returning of VO audio. WE'll see how responsive they are
with me.

A new malware threat has been spreading rapidly over the past 24 hours
with several instances of the threat reported to CSIT staff. This
particular threat is a sophisticated phishing scam leveraging Gmail
contacts to replicate itself.

The threat presents itself as an email message notifying the recipient
that a Google Docs document has been shared with them. The message
appears to come from a contact known to the recipient and includes a
link to the shared document. If message recipient clicks on the link,
they are taken to a web page disquised as the Google logon page where
any credential they enter are collected.

Once Google credentials have been collected the malware uses those
credentials to access the contacts and mailbox in order to replicate
the original malicious mailing yet again. Hence the rapid spread of
the threat.

Google has taken actions to mitigate the threat - such as taking down
fraudulent web pages and blocking compromised Gmail accounts.
Nevertheless, Google users have been warned against reflexively
clicking on links to shared documents regardless the apparent source.

Were you hearing the VO actions through the controlling computer, or were they

Hi Sharon,

Yes, you are right. Happily I don't have a gmail account, and thus no access
to GoogleDocs, so I was OK. :) But I thought it would be good to let others

Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-05-04 Thread Scott Granados
Well, if you’re service provider isn’t doing IPv6 how are you getting IPv6
connectivity? Are you tunneling through a tunnel broker like hurricane
electric?

Re: Changing SIM card without sighted help

2017-05-04 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Andrew,

Yes, you can do this without sighted help.
In the box your iPhone came in, there was a small package of documentation with
a tiny tool tucked just inside. This tool is rectangular with a spike sticking
out at the bottom.
You need to insert the spike into a hole on the righthand edge of your iPhone
and press quite hard. A little tray will pop out a short way. This holds the
SIM card. One corner is cut so that you can’t insert the card the wrong way
round.

Cheers,

Anne

Changing SIM card without sighted help

2017-05-04 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

When I first got my iphone SE, a sighted person inserted the SIM card into it.
I just wonder whether it is possible for a totally blind person to remove and
insert a SIM card independently? It is that I want to have the option of
swapping my SIM cards at will. It is an unlocked iphone so I should be able to
use whatever SIM card I wish. Am I correct?

Also, any tips of how to recognise which way to insert the sIM would be very
helpful.

Many thanks

Andrew

RE: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-05-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Janina

So I thought I'd have a play with IP v6 and oh how difficult that was.

So enable it on my fritz box and then made sure my servers had IP v6 switched
on and DHCP and DNS set to obtain addresses automatically
 And so far no issues.

If only my service provider did IP v 6 I'd switch ip v4 off, apart from my
work place I don't really need it

And nothing appears to be different so bring it on.

Is IPv6 worth the bother? Well, that depends on what you do, of course.

If all you do is browse the web and pick up email somewhere, the answer is
probably no.

If your home systems do voip or host any services, including just listening for
ssh, there's a solid benefit. And, this benefit is magnified if more than one
of your home LAN machines are hosting. My personal example is my work desk
where there's a SIP handset that looks to all the world like an ordinary
business phone, but is actually a computer connected by cat ethernet cable to
my router. I also use a soft SIP client on my main desktop, so I have two
phones right there that need to make, and more importantly recieve calls. The
recieving is the benefit. On IPv4 you're writing NAT rules. With 6 you forget
all about NAT.

Another example ... When I turned off ssh over 4, my hack attempts dropped to
zero, literally. Nowadays I only turn on ssh over 4 on my server, and then only
when traveling because I can't be sure of IPv6 access where I travel.

Another example ... If you want to access files on your home LAN from your
mobile while you're out and about, you're going to find it far simpler and far
more secure to do that over 6, and not at all over 4.

So, it depends.

What is the VPS you be speaking of?

Later...

RE: apple remote desktop

2017-05-04 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeahjust been looking at this on an el capitan server and three work stations,

Through the el cap server I was able to use vo through an RDC to another El
Cap workstation and hear what VO on the remote machine was saying.

So note I was using one el cap work station and through a 10.11.x server I was
able to remotely connect and control with voiceover another persons El Cap
workstation.

The only thing I can say is that if it wasn't for the server I couldn't have
had vo working remotely

And I've tried it a number of times.
