Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-05-11 Thread Scott Granados
I smell a business opportunity. Some googling seems ti indicate the provider
you listed and someone called flowroute. THere’s tons of documentation on the
advantages of SIP over IPv6 and lots of people convincing you to do it,
especially on the enterprise side but no providers offering the service.:)

Interesting your comments on fail2ban. Incredible PBX comes with both V4 and
V6 rules included and it looked to me like fail2ban could update either but
your unix mojo is strong so I’ll differ to you on that subject.

Scott:

Just a quick point to your email ...

I believe fail2ban only works with IPv4.

Personally, if I could disable listening for incoming SIP on Ipv4, I'd
do so in a heartbeat. But for reasons I don't understand, the world of
SIP to PSTN gateways is entirely IPv4. Therefore, I have no choice but
to listen for SIP on 4, since I do want to be able to call to, and
recieve calls from, the PSTN.

Caveat to the above ... There is one provider that supports SIP over 6,
namely:

http://callwithus.com

Friends who know their stuff have had good experience with them--clearly
on a personal level. However, they don't support LNP, which kills a move
to Call with Us for me as I don't want to reconfigure with all new phone
numbers.

Every few months I cast about for a SIP gateway service supporting 6,
but I've been disappointed to date.

Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-05-11 Thread Scott Granados
Ok, few points here.

First, as a network engineer, everyone I work with and know prefers V6 by a
long shot. The finding of individual addresses is no harder on V6 than V4, you
can display your Mac table the same way. The routers usually have separate V4
and V6 RIBS as well so your V4 doesn’t mix with your V6 and your MPLS VPN
routes are yet again separate etc. You use the same BGP and filtering
mechanisms as V4 so that translates pretty nicely.
One thing you can do in the notation is all the 0 fields can be
represented with 2 :: marks. Something like
2001:4860:4860:::::1001 can be expressed as
2001:4860:4860::1001. The zeros need to be in contiguous blocks however and
you can only do the substitution once per address block.
The auto configuration feature is nice also. You don’t necessarily
need to run a DHCP server to have machines self address which is very nice.
I’ve never had problems banning IP addresses in V6 form but I’ve used
more advanced methods like RTBH using URPF loose mode and changing the next hop
to null 0 by using BGP communities or with BGP flow spec where you craft a
firewall filter based on the specific address and publish that to your edge
routers as part of the BGP session.

Fail2Ban is quite good. My understanding is though it works with IP tables so
you’d use both. When fail2ban jails an IP it drops an entry in the specific
section of the IP tables rules.

Admittedly though, I am a network engineer first and a decent unix guy second
but my strongest skills are around routing and switching so I could be a little
off with the systems level stuff.

Uber app question

2017-05-11 Thread Sarai Bucciarelli
Hi guys:
I took an Uber trip this morning, and I couldn't figure out how to have
someone follow my trip. I was able to choose the people who I wanted to
follow, but couldn't find a done or a send button. There was just a back
button. Any ideas on how to do this?

Re: How to prefer IPv6 on the Mac OS X Sierra?

2017-05-11 Thread Daniel Chavez
Good day list,
Most System Admin's, myself included, prefer IPV4 because it's a lot of what
most provider's support, plus tracking down machine's that utilize IPV4 tends
to be less stress on us.
As far as IPV6 masks, they come in the form of letter:number:lettter:number, so
banning them can be quite difficult, if not next to impossible, in certain
situations.
I do both Network and server administration and have been doing so for at least
10 to 15 year's, and I can say that by using either IPTables and/or Fail2ban,
they both have strength's and weaknesses, though if it were me, I like fail2ban
myself. As IPTables gets the job done, it's rarely updated at least on CentOS,
while Fail2ban happens to be updated quite a bit more often. On cPanel
server's, especially, Fail2ban ties into IP tables while also providing it's
own level of protection which I find to be nice.
If I had a client server I, too, could pull a fail2ban config file, but I don't
have access right now to a server.

voiceover speech in words per minute?

2017-05-11 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi folks,
There is a research from the WAI interest group,
www.w3c.org/wai
Who is doing a presentation on the ability of users to process using
screen readers at often very fast words per minute.
He desires including all platforms, with Voiceover rates only set in
percentages.
Anyone have a good source for how those percentages translate into wpm in
voiceover on the mac or in Ios?

Thanks,
Karen

I think that would be helpful, actually. Until I really know what I'm
doing, I find it easier to tweak a config that's known to work, than to
go from scratch. So, when convenient, that would be most appreciated.

DO you use vmware or virtual box?
How can you use vb with voiceover?

Or just setup a shared folder between yoru fusion vm and the mac host.

There should be an option in the Fusion system to setup a shared drive

I've just done this with virtual box on a windows 7 vm and sierra host

I used the shared folder on the mac os as the host end and then specified a new
folder name that vb created on the windows 7 desktop

I then put things in to either and they show up on the other.

Very simple
Sorry I can't tell you exatly where this is in fusion but it is there.

You may wish to use dropbox on both mac and windows to share files or google

Re: Navigating Inside the VMware

2017-05-11 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello:

Ok I will read it, and hope it will fix my problem
But what is making me crazy right now, some Keyboard short cuts for
windows are interfering with the Short cuts on mac.
Like, selecting multiple items with Control-space on windows, makes
the Vm crazy, the start-m or Command-m, Control-left or right errows,
Control-ult-n.
these Short cuts are very important for me on widnows, because I am
using the VMware only for a program called Sibelius, and Sibelius rely
on short cuts.

Is there a way to make the VMware forget the mac shortcuts while using it?

Thanks in advance

I would suggest working with VMware a great deal more just to
 understand
better how it works and explore the settings in depth.

I myself do this. Its not foolproof, sometimes I execute the wrong
shortcuts. When I load my VM, giving it time to fully load, I press
 Cmd-G
(to Grab the keyboard from the Mac). Then I enter full screen with
Cmd-Ctrl-P. When I am done, I enter Cmd-Ctrl-P again to get out of full

Hi,

Have you tried turning up the volume during the calls themselves. The iPhone
volume and the call volume are independent of each other. That is, you could
have the volume while doing VO kinds of things on your iPhone set quite low,
but the call volume set very high. So, when you answer the call, the volume of

Issue with low sound in all types of calls on iPhone

2017-05-11 Thread David Hole
Hi.

I have an issue that seems to have no fix on the internet. I've been
googleing for months, but no solution...

When in a call, both normal mobile call, Facebook Messenger and so on, the
volume is very low, so in noisy areas, I can't hear what the other person
is saying.
To be able to hear something I need to have the phone on speaker... But
also when using the phone on speaker, it's a bit low.

Someone here who have experienced similar issues, and maybe have a solution
for me?
I've off course set the volume to max, and that didn't help.

I have iPhone 6S with latest iOS 10.3.1.

Thanks much in advance.
Best regards David

Re: Navigating Inside the VMware

2017-05-11 Thread Ramy Moustafa
Hello:

Thanks for clearifing.
However for me, I must disable the Vo while working on the VMware,
because the only reason for me tha ti have the VMware, is that , I am
using the Sibelius to write down the music notes, and I have a short
cut that interfere with the short cut for Vo.

againthanks for making me understand

Thanks all Members, all are working now.
the only thing is that, I didn't install the VMware alone, I took it
when I bought the MacBook pro.
is there a detailed podcast on how to install it?

RE: Sharing Files Between my mac and the VM ware Fusion

2017-05-11 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Anders,

By VB I mean virtual box,

It's current version is working great with voiceover on sierra.

I've been setting up a couple of windows VM's for my work place,

These are housed on an external drive which has the base image of the systems
we use and then I migrate that image to our main iMacs

Approx. 6 currently that I'm imaging
I'll do my own mac mini tomorrow

And I must admit that I have found command f5 to turn off vo and then work in

and lesss interruption from the VO side of the host.

I would suggest working with VMware a great deal more just to understand
better how it works and explore the settings in depth.

I myself do this. Its not foolproof, sometimes I execute the wrong
shortcuts. When I load my VM, giving it time to fully load, I press Cmd-G (to
Grab the keyboard from the Mac). Then I enter full screen with Cmd-Ctrl-P. When
I am done, I enter Cmd-Ctrl-P again to get out of full screen.
