Re: Need a good guitar tuning app

2017-05-28 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi! I use an app on the iPhone called talking tuner.
It won't give you pitches but it speaks the note you're tuned to and
how flat or sharp you are in cents so it's very accurate!

I believe the martin guitar app and various other apps will at least
give you an A 440 hertz tone you can tune your a string to then tune
the rest of the guitar using harmonics etc.

Cameron.

Re: How about nte new Apple Speaker?

2017-05-28 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Oh Scott, that I didn't know.

Please tell me did you need to connect (was it the speaker) to your devices to
make them all switch off when you wanted them to be switched off?

I have a talking Thermostat which controls my heating and I have connected the
thermostat to my phone by the Honeywell App, and can switch the system off if
I'm half way round the world if I wanted to. Although the app isn't so good on
my I phone and at times I end up shouting at the thermostat if it doesn't
understand what I want. It's not the Beehive but it's the Honeywell one.

I never switch lights on as I don't need them so my bill is more than halved.

address. Is there a work-around?

Thanks,

Re: How about nte new Apple Speaker?

2017-05-28 Thread Scott Granados
Actually ET, a lot of the stuff being made now is shipped from the factory much
more secure than it used to be. Apple and Google both have very secure home
control protocols. Nice use of strong cryptography so you don’t have to worry
about the Russians or the Clintons changing your temperature or spying on you
through your cameras. Unlike the Android side, Google is also very good at
patching their home control products like the Nest if problems arise.
I would be comfortable setting up any of the major systems for anyone
in my family and not worry about their security. That doesn’t mean I’d
encourage them to use every Chinese knock off camera and gadget out there but
if my mother for example wanted to use Apple or Google in the home I wouldn’t
lose sleep over it.

Simon I will say this, switching over to smart home electronics has cut my
electric bill by 50%, that real enough for you?

I can easily make sure the lights are turned off, the temperature management is
great because our environmental controls start to model themselves based on our
real usage and for example shut off the cooling when we leave and fire it up a
half hour before we get back so we don’t unnecessarily cool the house when
nobody is home. Also switches on and off lights randomly when we’re out of
town to make it look like the house is occupied.

Energy savings right now is one of the big areas for the smart home electronics.
