Re: AirPods versus the free EarPods

2017-05-29 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks, Simon. I am totally against anything that goes in my ear canal. That is
a showstopper. I will probably just use the lightning cheap EarPods that came
with the phone.

RE: Looking for good guitar instruction site

2017-05-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Phil,

You may think that but in fact you are in a lot of ways better off,

Flash is a prick of a platform,
And full of holes bugs and nothing but trouble.
Which is why people like google and firefox have removed support from their
browsers,

Flash is dying and will eventually be replaced by HTML 5 all for the good.

I'm looking for a good non-flash player based guitar instruction site. My old
favorite, totally guitars.com, is all flash play-based and I don't have windows
installed, nor do I feel like going to the bother to fire up the VM again.
Anything out there for guitar instruction that can be accessed with Safari?
This, in my opinion, is one of the biggest drawbacks of the Mac, not being able
to use flash because there's so much out there that requires it. Sent from my
IPhone

RE: AirPods versus the free EarPods

2017-05-29 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi mary,

Well I've got both and frankly I think the ones that come with the phone are
easier to deal with, they either work or don't work,

I've had some small issues with my earpods I keep getting VO flickering
louder and sharper sound in my ears while working on my phone or iPad
Apple can't tell me why and the techs say they are fine
And of course if your not using vo you wouldn't notice,
I've also had a few situations where the left pod stops picking up speech
during a phone call,I may know why but they are meant to work indipendantly of
each other
I also think they require some form of a volume or siri control that doesn't
require double tapping the pod as that disconnects me when I'm in the middle of
a phone call.
Otherwise they are great although I think they could do with a safety strap so
if one falls out you don't drop it.

Which reminds me,
Check out the beats X wifi / Bluetooth earpods,

They are beats but have a strap with media controls that hang in front and
another strap behind your head / neck to stop them falling off your head if
dropped,

But the down fall of them in my book is they are the type that go into your
ear canell normally with latex buds on the end,
Oh and in nz they are approx. 40 dollars cheaper than the apple ear pods,
And still have the same W1 chip in them.

 Just a thought.

Re: How about nte new Apple Speaker?

2017-05-29 Thread Jessica Moss
How true, I hate when I’m finally starting to get over a stomach virus, and on
top of that, my back is sore from being in bed for 2 days. Aside from that
though, I did finally purchase the echo dot, and love the fact that unlike
Ciri, you can tell it to do a crapload of stuff, and can tell it in a verry
soft-spoken voice while in bed, to play your music, which I thought was cool as
ever. I somehow found out by by accident, that you could start a spelling B
game, which Hannah and I both love, and now not only are we both adicted to it,
but no matter how much I try to convince her she can talk regular to it, she
still gets up close to it and shouts into it to try to activate it.

Re: Looking for good guitar instruction site

2017-05-29 Thread Alex Hall
I'm not sure I follow. You can install and enable Flash if you need it, you
just don't have it by default. Besides, even Windows browsers like Chrome and
Firefox are disabling Flash by default these days. Unless you're talking about
iOS, but since you mentioned a VM, I took your question as referring to the Mac.

Looking for good guitar instruction site

2017-05-29 Thread Phil Halton
I'm looking for a good non-flash player based guitar instruction site. My old
favorite, totally guitars.com, is all flash play-based and I don't have windows
installed, nor do I feel like going to the bother to fire up the VM again.
Anything out there for guitar instruction that can be accessed with Safari?
This, in my opinion, is one of the biggest drawbacks of the Mac, not being able
to use flash because there's so much out there that requires it. Sent from my

Re: Need a good guitar tuning app

2017-05-29 Thread Eileen Scrivani
I use Talking Tuner for my violin and it works like a charm. From time to time
it can get weird and stop announcing the notes aloud. Then I either have to
touch the screen to find out where things stand, or look around on the screen
and there should be a button to speak the note value. I find sometimes turning
that option on/off/on will fix the issue.

I've been using that for five string banjo for a number of years, but recently
in one of the updates it stopped talking automatically. I could still read the
note by touching the screen and finding it there but the auto voicing of the
note seem to stop. Is it still working good for you? I'll have to revisit it
and take another look.

Re: AirPods versus the free EarPods

2017-05-29 Thread Lois Butterfield

Hi Mary,

I hated the ear pods, and I love my Airpods.

I had trouble keeping the earpods in my ears because they fit so losely and
were so light. The Airpods somehow fit differently and are heavy enough to
stay put. It also helps that there is no wire to get caught on anything.

I am very pleased.

Take care,
Lois

Frozen OSX

2017-05-29 Thread Terje Strømberg
Hi,

If you also chould run into frozen OSX i.e. nothing works. Neither keyboard or
mouse. Maybe turning off by holding down the power button. Start up as normal
again. When you hear voice over talk, turn it off withing 1-2 seconds. Wait a
few seconds, turn voice over on again, use the keyboard commands like for
example command - tab or left right, then voice over should or maybe will come
back like normal.

Take care

Yeah if only I owned my own place I'd be putting automation in to it.

A mate of mine is doing that to his place currently using rashberry pi devices,

Temp sensors throughout the house, automating the heat transfer system and now
his wifes close to hatching bub number 1 she'll be at home to automate the
cooking on to the table for him when he gets home from work,

Thank god shes not on this list, I'd be looking for a new head!

Simon I will say this, switching over to smart home electronics has cut my
electric bill by 50%, that real enough for you?

I can easily make sure the lights are turned off, the temperature management is
great because our environmental controls start to model themselves based on our
real usage and for example shut off the cooling when we leave and fire it up a
half hour before we get back so we don’t unnecessarily cool the house when
nobody is home. Also switches on and off lights randomly when we’re out of
town to make it look like the house is occupied.

Energy savings right now is one of the big areas for the smart home electronics.
