RE: Accessible Printers

2017-08-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Brandon,

I'm only now just tuning into this thread but I would suggest that you consider
getting either an Air Print compatible unit or, as I have, a simple
Ethernet-ready Samsung monochrome laser printer.

There are many reasons why I like Samsung printers including the fact that the
units are well built and that the customer service is top-notch. Also, an
Ethernet printer has its own web client. This means that you can use your
preferred web browser to login to the printer settings and see any info you
want including how many pages have been printed with the current toner
cartridge.

I was helping a friend shop for a printer just last week and, in my opinion,
the Samsung monochrome laser printers still offer the biggest bang for the
printing buck.

In terms of accessibility, a totally blind person can operate these units as
there is only an off/on button and maybe one more button that you can set from
within your web browser.

The sheet feeders are simple and easy to understand and use.

Please keep in mind that, in order to use the web client interface, however,
the unit will need to be connected to your home network via an Ethernet cable.
However, once connected, any device on your network can send text to the unit
to be printed.

The only downside to these printers is that they are, in no way, portable.

Last week, I saw several of these units at Frye's and Best Buy for around $82
or so. The color lasers start at around $180 or so.

Many of the air print units I saw, however, were cheaply made HP printers that
were inkjet devices.

It's funny, once upon a time I was the number 1 fan of HP printers but that was
a long, long, time ago. Now, I am a Samsung man and stand behind them 100%,
especially for use by a totally blind person.

Should you consider my suggestion, stick with the Samsung ML-3100 series or
higher.

Good Luck,

Mark

Hi,

A few months ago I asked about wireless printers that were accessible. Someone
suggested the HP Office 6815.

Today I just found the HP Office Jet Pro 6978. It looks very similar, but is

functionality of the printer/scanner, and also has their instant ink program,
so it orders new ink before you run out of it, which sounds useful.

I'm concerned about the accessibility of the app, though. Has anyone used this

Re: Accessible Printers

2017-08-02 Thread Scott Granados
Why not just download the free app and give it as much of a spin as you can.
You should be able to determine whether it’s got basic accessibility features.
I like the idea though.

Be careful buying HP branded Ink. It’s usually way way over priced. I have an
HP 551N laser color printer for example and HP charges about $300 for a refill
or $70 from Ink Technology LLC. Shop the inks around before you lock in to an
automatic delivery system.

Re: update on Uber scheduling issues

2017-08-02 Thread Eileen Scrivani
I have no idea if this makes a difference or not, but I always allow the app to
track me. It just makes my life easier and so nice whne I go into to do
something it knows the address of where I’m going to be picked up from or where
I’m going to. I would think this might be under tha app settings and worth
while taking a look at.

I’d also make sure notifications are allowed from it as well.

Then too it could be there isn’t service where you live and that would account
for a difference of only a few miles. Maybe you could check Uber.com to see if
there is a contact link or email and send them a question asking about the
issues you’re having.

Microphone and sound issues after a update

2017-08-02 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello All,

I wondered if others have experienced problems running Sierra? I have had for
some time a Yeti Blue Microphone connected to my Mac Mini and for some reason
it has stopped working. It is clearly seen by the Sound preferences and in
Amadeus Pro. But recordings are silent. I have a cheap microphone and connected
it to the line in and I have the same results as with the yeti. It appears I
did a recording on the 21 July with this set up and all was as expected. I am
channeling my audio out through the Yeti and that is working as it should, so
the sound card of the Yeti is working. Although I have noticed that some of the
sound affects come through the Mini’s speaker rather than the Yeti’s sound card.

I’m sure my Mac wanted to do an update recently so I just allowed it without
examining what the update was for.

anyone had the same issues? Any ideas of what else I could try?

I will attempt to use the Yeti on a Windows machine just to double check that
it has broken for some reason. But it would be very unfortunate if 2 mics have
gone down.

Thanks,

Gena

Have you kept the app updated? Perhaps you might want to check in the app store

RE: Drones and Ubers?

2017-08-02 Thread David & his pack of dogs
Thanks for the update. Someone was amazed that with all the tourism helicopters
flying back and forth over Niagara Falls, that there were no fatalities. They
referred to it as a swarm of bees.

So the drone I use for the primary test platform can fly miles from the launch
site. You get 28 minutes of flight time per charge with a forward speed of
about 45 MPH if you’re full pitch forward. Range from the remote with video
feed is about 5 miles with the antennas I’m using presently.

I have gone hunting in Florida using the drone system with a
FLIR (forward looking infrared) for wild bore.

The thing about passenger planes is largely propaganda because
our government wants to create fear around drones so they maintain the upper
hand. There have been cases of folks flying to closely to airlines and police
helicopters but this is pretty few and far between and requires really high end
gear or home made gear.

Lol because a drone can’t carry my heavy back side from place to place.

The drone industry though is killing the helicopter business. No more need for
expensive flights for arial photography and surveying etc.

I’m going to try it through uber next time the option is available.

I used to use helicopters to get around south Florida but that’s because we had
several aviation companies as customers. Have been thinking about it for my
commute from where I live in the woods to Boston everyday though.

Is there a way to clear the destination list in Uber? I'm not talking about
the saved places section. I've taken Uber to a few places that I chose not
to save, but they still appear.

Interesting article.
Will be interesting to finally see what they do release.

I think if / when I upgrade I'll jump to the 8 or what ever it gets called.

 Cheers.

Subject: Apple iPhone 7 S Release Date, Price and Specs - CNET

CNET Reviews - Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 5:00 AM Apple iPhone 7 S Release
Date, Price and Specs - CNET The iPhone 8 isn't the only phone we expect Apple
to deliver before the end of the year. Nor is it the only iPhone rumored to be
giving Apple a headache at the moment. Apple is rumored to be developing an
edition of the iPhone 8 that has a reflective finish.

Most of this season's renders, mockups, and design drawings have been of the
iPhone 8. Here, one shows the 10th anniversary edition's rumored reflective
finish.
Benjamin Geskin / Twittter
The company's manufacturing woes, apparently driven by the technical
complexities of producing the dramatically redesigned 10th anniversary edition
iPhone -- possibly called the iPhone 8 -- have reportedly spread to the rumored
iPhone 7S and 7S Plus in recent weeks. Now, according to some sources, all
three forthcoming models are in danger of missing Apple's usual September
delivery date. (Though not everyone agrees.) Apple typically delivers an "S"
series upgrade in September in odd-numbered years, like 2017. This year,
however, Apple and its suppliers are said to be struggling to mass produce the
next flagship model, possibly called the iPhone 8, as well as the iPhone 7S and
7S Plus. According to a persistent series of reports by media, analysts, and
supply chain sources, the debut of the "S" series, which will likely be a
modestly upgraded version of the current generation iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, may be
delayed.
The iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus are currently scheduled to start the final
phase of production in August -- months behind the normal timeline. This could
result in any number of previously unthinkable scenarios including a postponed
announcement, a significantly delayed ship date, or an announcement followed by
severe product shortages. As the drama continues to unfold, we'll collect all
of the rumors below.
iPhone 7S specs we might see:
• Overall, an incremental update of the current generation iPhone 7
• LCD display with TrueTone
• Apple's next-generation processor (the A10X or A11)
• Physical home button with support for Touch ID
• iOS 11 (preview)
• Wireless charging
• Aluminum and/or glass case
• Enhanced waterproofing
• New color options including red
• 2GB of RAM
• Priced around $649 (iPhone 7S) and $749 (iPhone 7S Plus)
Announcement and release dates
True to form, Apple has officially announced nothing about the iPhone 7S or 7S
Plus. And yet if this was a typical year, we'd still have confidence that the
company was set to introduce and ship the "S" series sometime during the first
half of September. According to the relentless drumbeat of rumors, however, an
unprecedented set of manufacturing challenges has knocked this year's release
schedule into disarray.
For months, we've heard speculation that Apple may not have the flagship iPhone
8 ready to go until late 2017. More recently, the postponement buzz has
extended this foreboding prediction to include the "S" series; in mid-July,
Economic News Daily (via MacRumors) reported that all forthcoming iPhone models
are facing "production delays." Nothing is certain -- and we still may see the
iPhone 7S and 7S Plus appear right on schedule in early September. But October,
November, and beyond remain distinct possibilities.
What's new with the 2017 iPhone 'S' series upgrade?

The two on the left are said to be iPhone 8 components; the two on the right
are said to be coming to the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus, respectively.
kamisky via reddit
Most reports suggest that phone sizes will remain the same, setting the stage
for a 4.7-inch iPhone 7S and 5.5-inch iPhone 7S Plus. The "S" family is
expected to have an aluminum alloy chassis (via DigiTimes), while the iPhone 8
may get a glass and steel chassis. The forthcoming 7S Plus is nearly certain to
have two cameras on the back, consistent with the current generation 7 Plus,
though it's conceivable that the entry-level iPhone 7S could also get two
rear-facing lenses in order to make fuller use of the AR capabilities featured
in next generation of Apple's mobile operating
system's (more on that below).
Much of the speculation about the iPhone 8, and one of the major factors said
to be putting a crimp in production, involves a rumored virtual home button and
its integration with Touch ID. The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus, however, are expected
to stick with the current generation's conventional
setup: a
