I am trying to help my friend with his mac. The problem we are having is that
VO+w does not close a window. Likewise, VO+q does not close an app. Is this
something that happens with a new machine out of the box? Do I need to use the

RE: Any advantages to using bootcamp over Fusion for windows?

2017-10-25 Thread Simon Fogarty
Theoretically yes but not when there are no drivers installed to the system at
all.

You could try the old option of trying to install windows drivers at the setup
stage of the system to allow the USB Braille device to possibly work,

But it's a guess on iif it will work correctly for you.
But if you can get the USB working then you could try connecting a USB audio
device like headphones or a USB sound card and use Narrator.

I have done this with my my windows servers.

Hi!
Does the usb ports works under the windows installation?
If so he might be able to use a usb headset and or a braille display with usb
connection and narrator.

Hi

By default in bootcamp it's both command keys,

So you get the function key on the left and then the normal ctrl, option or
alt and then command is the windows key, Space bar and then the right command
key is windows key again, then alt / option again.

And as a real kicker, if you hold the function and shift keys on the left down
and hit F10 you get the context menu key.

Otherwise it's pretty much a windows qwerty keyboard Hope that helps.

I've been thinking about installing Windows on my Mac Book Pro via Boot camp.

Question:

Which key on the MBP keyboard will be the Windows key in Boot camp?

I really like the new Narrator but it requires extensive use of the Windows
Key, I believe.

Thanks much,

Good points

Windows is always there and uses full system resources available to it via the
installation.

Bad points,
You can't flick between the 2 operating systems at the same time as it's not a
vm running windows within the mac OS system .

As for installer of boot camp,
Yeah it works great up to the point where the mac os / bootcamp restarts the
machine into the windows installation setup..

The bootcamp installation process works well with voiceover and so long as you
have the windows installers in an ISO file and a minimum 16GB usb it will
download the apple drivers and windows installation setup and install it all
from the USB once things are up and working.

Bad point is that once the mac restarts into the windows installation there
is no screen reader available to you as there is no audio device installed or
working within the windows partition.

 Still it's my preferred option.

I can see a couple of disadvantages but would be happy to be corrected.
i will not be able to seamlessly switch from the mac OS to windows but with the
latest version of Fusion the keyboard is not disengaging from windows.
The second problem I see is with Windows installation, does bootcamp have a
similar feature to fusion's easy install where you put in your chosen

any help would be great.

The following information is important for all

Preview and PDF's

2017-10-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

In the promotional info about High Sierra, it was mentioned about improvements
to the Preview app, especially with respect to VO. One specific item I've just
notice is that Preview and VO now work together in fillable PDF forms. The
editable fields are now accessible and announced by VO when navigating the
form. You can either use VO navigation or tab between the fields. You must
first be in a field before the tab navigation works, but that's normal
behaviour. If the developer of the form is lazy and does not properly label
the edit fields, it could cause us frustration knowing what field relates to
what label, but that's also expected.

Try it out some time, if you dare :).

Later...

If you have a solid state drive it will automatically be converted to

Re: You Tube downloader?

2017-10-25 Thread jeff `greene
Hi E.T.
I use an app called softorino youtube converter. You bring it up and
have a blank edit field. You paste the web address of a youtube video
in the field then tab to 1080p 720p etc. At the bottom of the screen
is a save button. The app is not free, I got it in a bundle with
Waltr, both apps are developed by the same company. Actually, I
believe the app is now called S2 because they totally redid it.
Hope this helps! Jeff

Re: High Sierra install question

2017-10-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If your Mac has the correct hardware to accept the new APFS, then it will be
done automatically by the installer. Otherwise, you're file system will be
left alone. Your Mac must have an SSD, not a spinner or a Fusion drive, just
an SSD at this point.

The bootcamp installation process works well with voiceover and so long as

Google has it set that you are not sent a copy of a message that you posted to

ones that you've sent yourself. Some folks read messages differently and
respond right away without verifying if an answer or resolution has been

eMail messages, or could be something else, I'm not sure. In any case, your

Hi,

I've been thinking about installing Windows on my Mac Book Pro via Boot camp.

Question:

Which key on the MBP keyboard will be the Windows key in Boot camp?

I really like the new Narrator but it requires extensive use of the Windows
Key, I believe.

Thanks much,

Mark

Re: remotely controlling another Mac

2017-10-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Anders,

I've found that FaceTime must have a method by which it can mute the computer
audio. I tried this sort of thing and was unable to hear the VO or other
computer audio. It's entirely possible that I wasn't doing things exactly
correctly, but I couldn't get it to work through FaceTime. Now, you did hit
the nail on the head though. No matter what tool you're using, Team Viewer and
Skype, JAWS in Tandem mode, Apple Remote Desktop and whatever, if we're at the
initial setup of the computer, none of these methods will work. At the initial
setup, none of these items have been installed, so remote access is not an
option. If the request is to assist with setup of other sorts of things after
the initial setup action, then there are possibilities, but they also require
some effort to get up and running.

RE: Any advantages to using bootcamp over Fusion for windows?

2017-10-25 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi

By default in bootcamp it's both command keys,

So you get the function key on the left and then the normal ctrl, option or
alt and then command is the windows key,
Space bar and then the right command key is windows key again, then alt /
option again.

And as a real kicker, if you hold the function and shift keys on the left down
and hit F10 you get the context menu key.

Otherwise it's pretty much a windows qwerty keyboard
Hope that helps.

Hi,

I've been thinking about installing Windows on my Mac Book Pro via Boot camp.

Question:

Which key on the MBP keyboard will be the Windows key in Boot camp?

I really like the new Narrator but it requires extensive use of the Windows
Key, I believe.

Thanks much,

Mark

 Still it's my preferred option.

hey all,
Fusion the new version 10 and i are having shall we say some relationship
difficulties and i was wondering if there are any advantages to using bootcamp?
I can see a couple of disadvantages but would be happy to be corrected.
i will not be able to seamlessly switch from the mac OS to windows but with the
latest version of Fusion the keyboard is not disengaging from windows.
The second problem I see is with Windows installation, does bootcamp have a
similar feature to fusion's easy install where you put in your chosen
parameters and sit back?
any help would be great.

Hi Tim,

Yes, that’s the kind of clean install I had done with High Sierra, and I wish I

running, especially iMessage app and some other minor things. So perhaps I was
too zealous. I will take the leaf out of your book in the future.

Guys,

Subject says it all. Updated iTunes to latest version. I know that apps and
music are now divorced. Have not yet updated ipHone 7 to iOS 11, or mid 2010
Mac mini to from Sierra to High Sierra. Want to avoid doing that for a while.

Just added a few CDs to my iTunes library and wanted to add them to my phone by
syncing with cable. Unfortunately, iTunes will not activate the sync process
the way it always did.

In the past, I had issues that were solved by disconnecting my Skype USB camera
before attempting a cable sync or backup with iTunes. This doesn’t work now.
In fact, even my USB full QWERTY keyboard won’t work unless the iPhone is
disconnected. As near as I can tell, the only imaginable reason for this lack
of operability must lie in the fact that iTunes 12x doesn’t like iOS 10. Will
upgrading to iOS11 solve this problem? More to the point, will I also have to
upgrade my mid 2010 Mac mini to High Sierra? That’s something I really am not
interested in doing until I absolutely must. If, for some reason, this ancient
box won’t tolerate High Sierra, I need to know that, too.

Best,
Kevin

Hi Andrew,

Yes, there are a lot of opinions out there regarding clean installs. Some
swear by them, others not so much. I'm in the "not so much" category. If
things are running normally in the earlier OS, then I would say that the clean
install is unnecessary. If you're experiencing problems, then by all means a
clean install may fix some of those issues. One of the problems that I find
with people doing clean installs, is that they don't really do a true clean
install. The true clean install requires you to reinstall all apps,
reconfigure all network settings, re-create user accounts etc. Using any
migration tools negates the possible benefits of the clean install. I've not
performed a clean install since probably 10.5 or so which includes computer
changes, HD to SSD changes etc. All runs smooth as silk as far as I can tell.

Hello Tim,

I’ve taken the steps you’ve kindly recommended. Let’s see what’s going to
happen. I did a clean install of High Sierra, hoping that I’m going to have
fewer problems. I’m not sure whether I did the right thing or not. A lot of
hassle. I probably won’t do another clean install again.

Thanks again for your generous response as always.

That answers your question Mark. It asked you to subscribe to Apple music
which means then you can't create a radio station without subscribing to a
streaming service as far as I'm concerned then!

RE: Any advantages to using bootcamp over Fusion for windows?

2017-10-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hi,

I've been thinking about installing Windows on my Mac Book Pro via Boot camp.

Question:

Which key on the MBP keyboard will be the Windows key in Boot camp?

I really like the new Narrator but it requires extensive use of the Windows
Key, I believe.

Thanks much,

Mark

 Still it's my preferred option.

hey all,
Fusion the new version 10 and i are having shall we say some relationship
difficulties and i was wondering if there are any advantages to using bootcamp?
I can see a couple of disadvantages but would be happy to be corrected.
i will not be able to seamlessly switch from the mac OS to windows but with the
latest version of Fusion the keyboard is not disengaging from windows.
The second problem I see is with Windows installation, does bootcamp have a
similar feature to fusion's easy install where you put in your chosen
parameters and sit back?
any help would be great.
