RE: Mark on iPHone X: Left-Handed Low Vision, Display Accommodation Users, Beware

2017-11-06 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Simon,

Big Smile.

I completely understand.

If it's any consolation, please know that I only have use of this iPHone X for
one more day, only, as it is a loaner unit. (smile)

You're right about one thing, though, sometimes it really is best to go to an
Apple Store and try your luck.

I have a friend who both orders his new devices on-line and goes to the store.
If he gets the unit at the store, then he simply cancels his online order. Now
that's dedication to a mission, eh? (big smile)

Hang in there.

Mark,

 I'll say this now,

I no longer think you’re a nice guy!

I preordered mine on the 27th and I'm still waiting as NZ didn't get enough
units to fill all preorder requests

I knew I should have gone to apple rather than my provider.

Subject: Mark on iPHone X: Left-Handed Low Vision, Display Accommodation Users,
Beware

Hello All,

Well, I now have an iPHone X, on loan for a few days.

I must say, as has been reported by others, that the new Home/App switcher
gesture commands work beautifully with VoiceOver. Also, Face ID was a breeze
to set up, however, I would like to note that I have enough vision to see
exactly how to position the front-facing camera.

Be that as it may, as a low-vision user, I toggle the Invert Color feature on
and off, countless times during the day.

On previous iPHone models, this was not a problem being that the Home button
was located in the bottom center of the phone.

However, with iPHone X, I must use the side button, located on the right side
of the device.

I am left-handed. In fact, to my surprise, I realized that I am really, really
a left-handed person when it comes to iPhone. (smile)

Consequently, it is no longer as convenient to use Invert Colors as I am having
to toggle this feature with either my right hand or hold the phone in a
slightly awkward position in order to reach the side button with my middle
finger on my left hand.

I do not have a case for this phone so don't know if I'd be able to reach the
button with my left hand were the device placed inside such an accessory.

In terms of making a decision as to which phone to purchase, I will need more
time with iPhone X. However, I can tell you that, at this point, I am leaning
towards iPHone 8 Plus if for no other reason but that I prefer the triple-click
button to be in a more neutral location on the phone than is currently the case
on iPHone X.

If there were no iPHone 8 series, I would most likely purchase iPhone X and
learn to live with it; however, currently I have a choice and for this I am
grateful.

What I hope is that, someday, Apple, along with all the other hardware
manufacturers, will allow user-defined hardware button assignments. For
example, iPHone 11 would have 4 hardware buttons, 2 on each side and the user
could determine which is for volume up, Siri, Screen Lock, etc.

Per chance to dream, eh? (smile)

Re: You Tube downloader?

2017-11-06 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,
I just ran youtube-dl from the terminal to extract mp3.
You don’t need homebrew to install it. The terminal command looks something
like:
youtube-dl —extract-audio —audio-format mp3 url

You can get the url by going into youtube in safari,
locating the desired song,
use the copy link in the shortcut menu
and paste it into the terminal command with cmd+v

Re: Mark on iPHone X: Left-Handed Low Vision, Display Accommodation Users, Beware

2017-11-06 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
I hope to have my I phone X on the 24th. I normally hold an I phone in my left
hand and control the I phone with my right. I don't know when that will be the
same when I get my I phone.

I am really looking forward to no Touch ID as I use to use windows mobile HTC
and that didn't have a home button. I had to get use to a home button and
thought it was a waste of space. So I am unusual.

RE: Apple TV and iTunes Library

2017-11-06 Thread David Griffith
I have no experience of using the Apple TV but I do experience from time to
time a curious lag in iTunes syching and communicating across devices. For
example my Windows machine and my Mac.
Generally this gets resolves after time but it may take a day for the machines
to catch upwith each other. I have speculated that this slow response may be a
symptom of the Apple Servers struggling.
Maybe 24 hours will sort it.

If memory serves, it's not free but very reasonable.

Re: Counting my Money

2017-11-06 Thread Erik Burggraaf
Check the app store for budgeting or budget apps. The app would allow you
to enter your incomes, add your bank accounts, track receipts and calculate
your spending. It would also show you where you can save money, what your
total regular monthly bills are, and lots of other information about your
finances. Hope this helps,

If memory serves, it's not free but very reasonable.

Re: Apple TV and iTunes Library

2017-11-06 Thread Raymond Foret Jr
My own solution was a little different. Rather than merely changing iTunes to
the new location from the old, I pressed the CMD key when launching iTunes.
This forced iTunes to ask me for a library location. I pointed the location
path to my external USB drive and I made sure it took which it did. One
important note to bear in mind. When setting up your location you want to work
it so that the path is exactly like what you see below.

External Drive (equals the actual name of your external drive) sub folder path
if any and finally, the actual folder named “iTunes” To give you the path
example I myself am using:

External Data/External Music/iTunes

RE: Mark on iPHone X: Left-Handed Low Vision, Display Accommodation Users, Beware

2017-11-06 Thread Simon Fogarty
Mark,

 I'll say this now,

I no longer think you’re a nice guy!

I preordered mine on the 27th and I'm still waiting as NZ didn't get enough
units to fill all preorder requests

(smile)

Mark

 Hi All,

I may have a fix for now. It has worked for me in two different

2017-11-06 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Yes, it is possible. You have to find the button or link which says something
about recent activities. This should be somewhere in your personal home page
area. Then by navigating using vo+arrow keys, you should find the recent posts
with a button that says collapseed after each post. Activate it and you should
be able to vo+up and down arrow keys find the delete option.

I have no time to check this now as I have to go out but if you fail, give us a
shout and I will try to be more specific.

RE: Very Urgent help, Can not update my phone when he asked for Itunes

2017-11-06 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yesyou can download through your computer,
But as for then being able to access the IOS installer No I don't believe you
can off your harddrive.

Yes Plug your computer in to your phone or vise virsa and you can do an update
of the IOS system via itunes

It can be quicker because itunes on the computer can download it faster.

I would still look at doing the update through the phones wifi connection so
long as your wifi is stabe.

Hi Simon:

As I told you, I am not thei one who wake my Iphone6, I went to Apple and they
did this.
but I think that they were having the system on there HD or something ,
Because eit took less than 20 minutes.
and my phone was updated.
So, is it possible that we can download the IOS system on our hard drives to
install it if needed, without getting it from the App store each time, if
somehitn ghappened?

 Hi,

Try turning up the volume to see if VO is actually starting but

The other thing to do is to ask your sighted friend to enter your

 This
should get you past that barrier, then you can change your
pass-code later after you get things up and running.

 Hi Ramy,

No it's not possible to make itunes speak for your iPhone interface.

 Question.
Have you anything on the iPhone that you can't replace or should I
 say don't wish to lose?

If not then what I would suggest is a full restore of the IOS
 version of the device.

To do this unplug your phone from itunes on your computer.

I assume the phone is an iPhone 6s or earlier may be you need to
correct me if that is not correct.

With the phone you need to completely shut the device down.

Then as you plug the cable back in to your computer with it connected
to your phone you have to be holding down the home button and power
 button at the same time,

Keep holding the power and home buttons until you get the alert on
your computer that you need to restore yor phone

Then follow the prompts on the itunes screen,

This shouldn't ask you for your pin code but once you have the phone
reimaged you can set it up from scratch And once you enter a wifi
network connection it will tell you it is connected to an itunes
account and to please enter the account email address and password to
 unlock it.

That is a worst case situation but is an option.
