Hi Mark,

I too went to my local Apple store earlier this week intending to get a new
phone. I looked at both the 8 and the new 10. I didn’t consider looking at the
8 plus since I like a phone that takes up smaller real estate in my purse &
pocket. I still can’t believe I took the plunge, but I ordered an IPhone 10 in
silver with 256G. I have to say I think the phone is really slick. And even
though I don’t see the screen I do find myself using the phone for a lot of
scanning and picture taking these days. I think the better photo ability will
help at the end of the day. I do think its crazy money to spend on a phone. I
never in my life thought I’d spend this much on a phone, but I do love my cell
phone and its so much more than just a phone. This one will have to last me
longer than usual because I can’t justify upgrading this one in another 3 or 4
years. To be honest my IPhone 6 is still working perfectly and is in good
condition. I treated myself and why not we only live once!

I will have a learning curve on some of the new gestures once I get the phone
in 3 to 4 weeks. I also wound up coming home and placing the order by phone
because I wanted to return my 6 for cash, but to do that I would have been
without a phone during the 3 or 4 week waiting period on the 10. So once I get
the 10 I’ll go back to the Apple store and ask for gift cards for my phone and
my husbands 6 which I had been holding onto. I’ll buy all the necessary
accessories once I have the gift cards in-hand.

Enjoy your new 8 plus.

Eileen

Hello All,

Well, I was in an Apple Store today just browsing around when I decided to go
ahead and make the plunge and get a new phone.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with iPhone 10, believe it or not, I do
not like its smaller form factor nor, as a low vision user, its display
aspect-ratio in terms of watching videos. To me, it's just too narrow.
Again, this is just my opinion and my opinion, only.

As for my take on Face ID? Hmm! Well, the thrill of it wore off pretty fast
on me (smile).

While I have no doubt but that Face ID is here to stay, as well it should, I
decided to go with a SIM-free, space gray, 256GB iPhone 8 Plus.

I was surprised to learn that the SIM-free models of the iPHone 8 series
launched in the US at the same time as the carrier-branded models. It used to
be that the SIM-free models were launched no sooner than two months after the
carrier-branded models.

I was told by an Apple Genius, today, that the SIM-free model of iPhone 10 is
not yet available in the US.

Just as an F.Y.I., in the USA, only the SIM-free models ship with a SIM card
removal tool. I have always thought this to be a ridiculous practice of Apple
for, carrier-branded or not, one may choose to remove the SIM card at some
point in the future. Besides, for the amount of money one pays for iPhone, I
think Apple should include the SIM card removal tool, along with a three-course
meal, for that matter. (smile)

I also purchased Apple Care Plus along with my prerequisite screen
protector.

I was delighted to discover that the 8 plus fits in the same case as my 6 plus
so no added expense, there.

I updated my Windows iTunes 12.6 to 12.6.3 and it's running beautifully.

As I did not update my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 11.x, I will make a full backup to
iTunes and restore to the new phone later this weekend.

Okay, I know that's more information than you wanted but, what can I say?
I'm feeling chatty (smile).

Until Next Time,

Mark

Yes, any stylus which works with capacitive touch screen displays should work
with iPhones. The Apple Pencil is specifically designed to work with the iPad

I was delighted to discover that the 8 plus fits in the same case as my 6
plus so no added expense, there.

I updated my Windows iTunes 12.6 to 12.6.3 and it's running beautifully.

As I did not update my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 11.x, I will make a full backup
to iTunes and restore to the new phone later this weekend.

Okay, I know that's more information than you wanted but, what can I say?
I'm feeling chatty (smile).

Until Next Time,

Mark

2017-11-10 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Saqib,

Actually, the case I use is from Case Mate. It's a folio with an entire square
cut out for the camera.

I have the phone in the case and it's perfect.

I went to look at the Case Mate site and they are still selling the same case,
with an updated description that includes iPhone 7 Plus and iPHone 8 Plus.

Hi. You will have to get a new case as it will partially block the rear camera.
I couldn’t use my 6S+ case on my 7+ and 8+.

Hey Mark,

So do you mind telling us how much the damage was for the phone and the Apple
Care Plus package? I usually purchase my iPhones when visiting family in the
States, though I believe that the difference in price between there and here in
Europe might be less than what it once was.

Take care,

RE: Recommendation for a Bluetooth keyboard to pair with my iPhone

2017-11-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Erik,

Interesting note, thanks for the alert to key type,
I thought the touch pad would be good to have as well as keys for gestures as
well as typing.

I think therefore from your recommendations I’ll be following in Donnas
footsteps and getting the iClever
Or may be I’ll buy both so I can make the choice later.

Perhaps the EC Technology board you are looking at is a new one. When I bought
the one that I used for my girlfriend, my impression was that it connected to
three devices. Unfortunately when we got it, I found out that wasn't the case.

I recommend avoiding the keyboards that have track pads. My experience of the
keyboards that do not have track pads, is that they have scissor Keys which is
what you want. My experience of keyboards that do have the trackpad, is that
they have a different style of keys which is harder to press and not easy to
type on. They are Chiclet style Keys, like the ones that used to be built into
thumb keyboards that came with phones.

Hi Simon, I think the iclever keyboard that I recommended has a model ending in
06. The model ending in 06 folds in half, while the model ending in 03 folds in
thirds, similar to the EC Technology keyboard you mentioned.

I actually owned the EC Technology keyboard, and I can highly recommend it. It
does not connect to more than one device at a time, but in other ways it is
equivalent to the iclever 03 or 06. Another derivative of the EC Technology
keyboard is the esynic folding Bluetooth keyboard, which you can also find
reviewed on inclusive Android. I am currently using the esynic. While it is an
excellent keyboard overall, the Accent key is broken and dumps random accent
characters into the text as I type. So, I'm not really as happy with it as I
was with the EC Technology. My sister and I bought these keyboards at the same
time, and she is using her as without any issues. I guess I'm just a lucky guy.
The EC Technology keyboard lasted for approximately 3 years. I consider that
excellent value for money.

If you don't need the connectivity options from the iclever, then I think
you'll be very happy with any of these keyboards. Go ahead and buy whichever
one is on sale, and will ship to your location.

Best,

Erik

Hello Simon, et al:

Well, as it turns out, I had a bad adapter.

I simply took the unit into the Apple Store, along with my receipt of course,
and they swapped it out.

Before I left the shopping center, I tested it and it works beautifully.

Simon, you can purchase these adapters from Amazon but I purchased mine from
the Apple Store.

As to your question, no, Apple does not prevent third-party manufacturers from
making certain Apple accessories. Apple sells many Belkin products.

Thank you all for your feedback on this.

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a Rock Star Lightning splitter from the Apple Store but, try
as I may, I cannot get it to work on any of my iPhone devices including iPhone

Is there some special method for connecting it to a device or do I simply have
a bad unit?

I just don't understand.

I plug the adapter into the lightning port of the phone, then, insert the power
cable into one port and the Ear Pods into the second port. My result,
absolutely nothing. Just to be certain, I took all of my devices out of their
respective cases to insure a snug fit.

All Replies welcome.

RE: A Question About Using the Belkin Rock Star Lightening Splitter

2017-11-10 Thread M. Taylor

Subject: A Question About Using the Belkin Rock Star Lightening Splitter

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a Rock Star Lightning splitter from the Apple Store but, try
as I may, I cannot get it to work on any of my iPhone devices including iPhone
8 Plus, 7 Plus, 6 S Plus, 6 Plus, or 5 S.

Re: iPhone x and stylus

2017-11-10 Thread Eileen Scrivani
I cannot answer your question definitively. However when I was in the Apple
store looking at both the 8 & the 10 the guy helping me said not a word about
using a stylus nor did I ask specifically about one since its something I don’t
use. That doesn’t necessarily mean the answer is that it can’t be used. I
suggest you talk to Apple directly and ask them directly if its important to
you and impacts the way you are planning on interacting with the device if
you’re considering the 10.

You could call their sales number and ask questions – that doesn’t mean you
have to buy it if you find the answers don’t meet your expectations.

I thought that was only the iPad pro devices,

Or am I missing something here?

RE: Recommendation for a Bluetooth keyboard to pair with my iPhone

2017-11-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Erik,

Yeah the EC Technology board I was looking at did seemingly do three devices,
but then so as you mentioned did the 2 iClever boards I looked at, both iClever
boards folded up to fit in the pocket but one has a touch pad on the right hand
end and one doesn’t,
The one with the touch pad doesn’t ship to NZ, nor the ec technology board the
iClever without the touch pad does ship down under.

Guess I’ll go back to looking again at them

Best,

Erik

2017-11-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Morning folks,

Just a crazy question here as I'm pretty sure the answer is not a chance,

I'm looking at some ipHone x wallet cases and one I've found has a stylus with
it,

Correct me if I'm wrong but the iPhone x or any other version of the iPHone
can't work with a stylus
I thought that was only the iPad pro devices,

Or am I missing something here?

RE: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

2017-11-10 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Mark,

Interesting your thoughts on the 10, I guess as a sightless user I wont worry
about the screen size,

Although I have the 7+ for exactly that reason, larger screen size better
access to keyboard for fatter fingers.

As my 10 hasn't yet arrived I thought I'd look in to cases for it,
I didn't realise that the width is only slightly less than the 7+ but the
length is probably 1 centimeter shorter than the +
'
So I can see what is meant by smaller form factor.

Subject: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

Mark

with "Services Only" privileges. Use this network user as the user to connect
to the VPN. I've found that local user credentials don't work well with the
VPN initial access. The DNS on the server should point to itself as well as
your router. As long as the server can access the internet, then anything
connected through its VPN service can do so as well.

With respect to ARD, sorry, no joy there either. VO will not pass through the
sound. You can control VO as long as VO is off on your machine, but you won't
hear anything unless you're sitting right beside it. For connecting to the
server, you could connect via AFP or smb through the VPN and have access to
most things you'd need access to.

That's how I handle it anyway. Well, that and Terminal.

bloody difficult with setup and I can’t see which part is the issue.

I was wondering about ARD apple Remote Desktop on the server and if using that
to connect to the client will give me vo through the connection
Terminal isn’t currently an option as my linux skills are sadly not great.

I’ll keep playing and see what I can do .

Simon,

If you're MacBook is running the same MacOS as the Server, and all you're
wanting to do is manage the Server settings, then you don't need to do anything
special Just install the Server app onto your MacBook, open it, press cmd-n
to open a new connection, select Other from the table, then enter the IP of
your router. You will have first needed to set up a forwarder that will
forward requests that come to the router for Server Admin tasks to be forwarded
to your Server internal IP. With all that set up, you can manage the server
using the app on a different Mac. The limitations happen when you're using a
different version of the Server app on each machine these won't properly talk
to each other. I just have a drive with multiple MacOS's on it with multiple
versions of Server app. So, when I want to manage an el Capitan server
installation, I use the 10.11.6 installation and so on for Sierra etc.

I plug the adapter into the lightning port of the phone, then, insert the power

Try the oposite way. Connect your devices then connect the connector in to
your iphone. In the strictest sense, honestly, it should not matter which way
you do it. Based on your description, sounds to me like you did it right:
however, just make sure that the connectors really snap in place on the duo
connector. I’d say that it appears you may have a bad unit though.

Re: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

2017-11-10 Thread Eileen Scrivani

Hello All,

Well, I was in an Apple Store today just browsing around when I decided to
go ahead and make the plunge and get a new phone.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with iPhone 10, believe it or not, I
do not like its smaller form factor nor, as a low vision user, its display
aspect-ratio in terms of watching videos. To me, it's just too narrow.
Again, this is just my opinion and my opinion, only.

As for my take on Face ID? Hmm! Well, the thrill of it wore off pretty
fast on me (smile).

It used
to be that the SIM-free models were launched no sooner than two months after
the carrier-branded models.

I was told by an Apple Genius, today, that the SIM-free model of iPhone 10
is not yet available in the US.

Just as an F.Y.I., in the USA, only the SIM-free models ship with a SIM card
removal tool. I have always thought this to be a ridiculous practice of
Apple for, carrier-branded or not, one may choose to remove the SIM card at
some point in the future. Besides, for the amount of money one pays for
iPhone, I think Apple should include the SIM card removal tool, along with a
three-course meal, for that matter. (smile)

I also purchased Apple Care Plus along with my prerequisite screen
protector.

Mark
