RE: Apple TV and sound systems revisited

2017-12-11 Thread Simon Fogarty
I use sonos from my tv and it works great with my apple tv 4K

The play bar plugs in to my tv using an optical cable and then the apple tv
plugs in to the Samsung tv using HDMI and the tv directs the audio through the
sonos play bar and associated sonos speakers.
No issues what so ever

This has come up before, but it has been a few months, so I’ll ask again in
case something new and beter has come up. As we know, some sound systems do
not work well with Voiceover because of the way they process HDMI input. I
have been putting up with such a system for a while now. I bought a
replacement, foolishly assuming that a new system from a reputable brand would
be fine. FYI, the JBL Bar 3.1 is not such a system. In fact it’s rather
glitchy overall. It may get beter after a software update or two, but right
now I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I’ve got an email out to customer
support, but I do not expect that to come to much. I did the same thing with
the RCA system and the technician didn’t even know what Apple TV was. The
trouble with first level support is that if they are any good they get promoted.

So, if you have a good system that works well with VO on Apple TV, I’d like to
know about it. I’m looking at sound bars because my wife wants to get rid of
the wares running up the wall to the satelites.

Does Anyone Know of a Good Taxi App in the USA? Not Uber or Lift

2017-12-11 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Can anyone recommend a good Taxi app here in the US?

I have Curb, the Taxi app, but, like so many, they no longer offer telephone
booking service as they once did.

I would like an app that just lifts all of the taxi services in my genral
area with their respective phone numbers.

Any ideas?

Mark

I've had success with Bose products. Although, to be honest, I've only used my

a Harman Kardon receiver with no issues at all, except for the wires according
to my wife as well :).

Oh goodness, that is pretty bad. I’d just have the phone on in pocket, and
press Space with G twice, then space with lower H twice, then type R on the
Braille display, and there I’d be, in the book. This is with BARD Mobile.

Do you use the BARD app for reading Braille?

The last time I tried using the BARD app with my Braille display, I couldn't
make heads or tails of it.

The navigation was atrocious, to say the least. I got so confused and
depressed, trying to figure it out, that I never tried it again, after that
first attempt.

This was back in iOS 9.

Has it gotten better?

Why is this?
Can you talk to the main apple team instead?
I don’t understand why the french translators wont talk to the blind community.

I have what is probably the equivalent of well over 700 cd's which

Hi,

With AirPlay and Bluetooth technologies nowadays, purchasing from iTunes allows
you to share your music with whoever you wish in full stereo or surround sound.
All my music has either been ripped from CD, digitized from LP, or purchased
from iTunes. All songs are able to be played through my two audio receivers
and one sound bar via AirPlay or through via Bluetooth to my Bose Mini 2. The
audio quality from a CD vs the high quality iTunes format is negligible unless
you're using the digital outputs from the CD unit to the receiver. Even then,
unless you're an audio-file, I'm not certain that most people would notice the
difference.

So, in my opinion, after that long-winded reply, I'd probably choose the iTunes
version, but that's just my opinion.

 Hello everyone,

This is a question for anyone who runs High Sierra generally in another
 language other than English.
Many members of my French list are having a lot of trouble with
 VoiceOver
switching to the Alex voice for no apparent reason when they have a
perfectly good French voice selected in VoiceOver Utility.
Does anyone have this trouble with a system that has been installed in
another language, or is it just another example of Apple France
 pretending
that VoiceOver doesn’t exist so they don’t have to worry about its
 localisation?
 Cheers,

 Anne

Hello Oriol,

Thank you for this. So it would seem to be a bug in High Sierra for languages
other than English but something of a random one.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Unwanted language switching in High Sierra

2017-12-11 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Anders,

It seems to happen with just one voice installed and only French set as a
language. I don’t often use our French-language computer, except to answer
questions and when I know I’m going to have to teach something specific. My own
MacBook Air runs in English with a French voice installed, and I’m still
running Sierra as I don’t like the voice switching in High Sierra.
As for the bad localisation into French, I assume that each country’s
subsidiary checks the localisation for their particular language and, although
for sighted people, the French localisation is fine, VoiceOver has been
acquiring more and more translation errors with each new level of the OS since
the betas became public.
I know that Apple France won’t talk to any organisation working with
visually-impaired users of Apple products as many of us have tried to
communicate with them over the years.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Anne!
I have not seen this issue in Hi Sierra with swedish localization.
Does it happens randomly and is it with multiple or just one tts installed?
I try to understand what’s going on really.
Its strange that apple wont bother with the french localization for VoiceOver

It seems that they’ve taking a big step forwards with braille in Ios then.

I wonder if its more easy to install Linux in a bootcamp partition such as

Has anyone here tried to have both Osx and linux installed so that you can boot

Hi Kliph, Simon, and Aleeha,

Thanks for the case suggestions. I've used an OtterBox case before, but like
Kliph, I found it bulky. I was looking at the LifeProof cases yesterday, but
they're expensive, and now that phones are water-resistant, I'm not sure it's
worth the money. I'll take a look at the commuter series, though, to see if
it's any less bulky, and the Apple leather case sounds intriguing. Thanks,
Kliph, for that, I didn't even know Apple made a leather case.
Cheers,
Donna
