Try navigating up from the bottom of the page or searching for something
specific in the web page. Also try using Google Chrome rather than Safari.

Re: Booting From Another Startup Disk

2018-08-13 Thread 'Alex Hall' via MacVisionaries
This is correct, but to answer the other part of the question: no, no speech
here. It's too early, and the Mac has no disk from which to run any kind of
speech. At least, that's how I think of it, though I'm sure Apple could fix
this if they really wanted to. Don't forget you can select this in System
Preferences before you restart. At least, I think you can. I've never had
occasion to try it for real.

Re: How do I clear Terminal?

2018-08-13 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
Sorry, this was my mistake. It’s VO-Shift-Home, or, if you’re using a MacBook
keyboard with Ctrl-Option as the VO modifier, Ctrl-Option-Fn-Shift-Left-Arrow.
See below for context.

Subject: Re: How do I clear Terminal?

Also, VO-Home (the “go to visible beginning” command) takes you to the top of
the currently visible terminal window (i.e., after the scroll-back).

On a MacBook keyboard, this can be awkward to type – Ctrl-Option-FN-Left-Arrow.
I suppose you could say that it adds to the argument for making CapsLock the VO
modifier key.

Actually, the buffer is what vo cursor keys see. There is also the shell
history which stores the last N commands. The size of this history can be set
in your bashrc files. If you use arrow keys without the VO modifier and you are
on the [myname] prompt you can review and edit prior commands. This is entirely
different from the terminal buffer

.

This can be cleared by cmd+k and/or cmd+option+k. The second is more extensive.

There will be a vo announcement of the outcome.
When in terminal from the menu choose terminal, then preferences, then window.

Near the end of the items there are terminal buffer items which can be set by a
numerical value. This includes how much memory to devote to
the bufffer and its size limit.

Another related terminal command is to replace the k above with r, this will
reset the terminal, also with vo feedback..

Re: Absolutely at my wit's end with web browser busy nonsense

2018-08-13 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
HI Christine,

Heres what I do once in a while to clear sluggish VO movement & the "busy"
issue, by deleting the Caches folder.

To empty out the Caches folder on your computer, you’ll need to open up Finder
first.

With Voiceover on, you can press V O D, and it should default to Finder. Then
press V O Space.

Once Finder is the focused application, press V O M to get to the menu bar,
then V O Right until you reach the Go menu. In the Go menu, select Go To
Folder.

The location is ~/Library

Once you’ve typed that in, press Return.

In the Library folder, you can select the Caches folder and then press Command
Delete to move it to trash.

I recommend restarting the computer after you do this.

Re: attaching files again

2018-08-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If you were asking how to navigate with threats, that depends on whether
you have conversation with you on or off in your mail application.
If you have a conversation in a separate window, then by stop interacting
enough times (usually twice) you can move by message using VoiceOver
previous and next commands.

Re: How do I clear Terminal?

2018-08-13 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Actually, the buffer is what vo cursor keys see. There is also the shell
history which stores the last N commands. The size of this history can be
set in your bashrc files. If you use arrow keys without the VO modifier and
you are on the [myname] prompt you can review and edit prior commands. This
is entirely different from the terminal buffer
.

Brandon,
Yes. While booting, hold the option key to bring up target disk mode. Left
arrow once to select the startup disk and press enter. If all goes well it
should boot. Hth.

Re: help with Lyft app

Donna,

I believe XP is 6 passengers and Lyft mode is 4 passengers. Descriptions
are at:
https://help.lyft.com/hc/en-us/articles/115012927427-Lyft-ride-modes-overview

for changing the work/home shortcuts I found an edit button one swipe after
the address listed.

Re: How do I clear Terminal?

2018-08-13 Thread dan d.
The terminal has a buffer wich stores previous commands for reuse if desired.
Using arrow up will revisit those commands in reverse order.

Re: help with Lyft app

2018-08-13 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Mike,

The app is extremely accessible. I haven't yet found anything that you can't
do using VO, I think the work address issue isn't an accessibility issue, I
think it's just that I can't figure out how to do it.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: help with Lyft app

2018-08-13 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello Donna,

Although I cannot answer your question, IK would like to thank you for posting
it. I was under the impression that Lyft was not VO friendly. Now, all I need
to do is find out whether or not Lyft is available here in Austria.

Thanks again for your posting, and I hope that someone will be able to answer
your question.

Re: Navigating message components in Apple Mail

2018-08-13 Thread Michael Busboom
Actually, Alex, you were far more helpful than you may realize. This is very
embarrassing, because I should have known better. The problem was with me,
not VoiceOver or my MacBook Pro.

The mistake I repeatedly made was that I had not stopped interacting with the
body of the message so actually, VO was behaving properly all along.

So thanks for your help, though after all these years of using the Mac, I
shouldn’t have made that type of mistake.

Best regards and thanks again,

Mike

 Hello.

I should start out by saying that I am running the latest OS on my 2016
 MacBook Pro.

 Here’s the problem:

I recently wrote a note to several friends and in the course of my
writing, I decided I wanted to change the subject and change the email
address from which the message would be sent. Once inside the body of the
message, I was unable to get back to fields where I could modify the
subject line and change the address from wwhich I wanted to send the note.
When I stopped interacting with the body of my message, I was still
unable to get to the fields I wanted to change. Using the Item Chooser
didn’t reveal anything I could click on, unless I am missing the obvious.

Any help would be both welcome and greatly appreciated.

Have a nice weekend, everybody, and thanks!

No wonder some sighted people are so shallow. All they care about is the damn
screen! We tend to care about actual functionality. Is it any wonder they’re
such dunderheads?
