Re: Teamviewer with Voiceover

2018-10-15 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Kristeen,

To control another Mac with TeamViewer and VoiceOver, you have to turn
VoiceOver off on the master machine to be able to use VoiceOver commands to
control the slave. It works just fine.
Cheers,

Anne

Safari on a Mac

2018-10-15 Thread Lorie McCloud
sometimes while using Safari on my Mac, I want to go down through a long list
faster than just one link at a time. in this case, they're episodes. in windows
I used to use the page-down key but on my Mac, that doesn't do anything. is
there a way to go down by pages rather than links or headings?

thanks.

FaceTime and search results

2018-10-15 Thread 'aliFaisal' via MacVisionaries
Hello all,
I use to be able to type in a contact’s first name and get the search results
in a table. However with Majavi, this no longer appears to be possible. I am
typing in a contact’s name as per usual in the search field, but when I
navigate past the search field to the results table, I can’t see any of my
search results. Is this a voiceover bug? Has anyone been able to do this
properly?
So far, I’ve been relying on siri to make phone calls for me but this is hardly
an affective option.

Dictation on the Apple Watch and other voice-over gestures

2018-10-15 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hello.

I have just set up my Apple watch the new four or what ever it is called, and I
tried to use dictation on the watch using voice-over. For some reason, when I
tried to double tap to finish the dictation, nothing happened. There are other
gestures on the watch which don’t seem to be working like the other watch for
instance, you used to be able to do the scrub gesture to make it go back out of
the menu. I also used to be able to flick up and down with two fingers to get
it go into the control centre or notifications area of the watch. None of these
gestures are working. Is there something wrong with my watch or am I doing
something different now? I have also got a couple of contacts in my
walkie-talkie and wish to know how I should contact them if I wanted to do
that. As I keep double tapping the name, and nothing happens although it does
say so-and-so has been invited. Please let me know.

Thank you for letting me know. Kawal.

Hi all,

I have a question tha is a unusual request. I just got a new computer and need
to get it online. I am wondering if there is a way to view the wifi code of
the wifi network I am currently connected to. It is a very long code. I had
to have someone enter the code for me since it was stored on there phone. I
would like to have it so that I can store it someware and use it to connect the
new laptop to the network. If this is a bit off topic I appolage in advance.
If there is an app that would allow me to do this. Thanks.

Re: Fall detection

2018-10-15 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Please confirm the following from another source, but I think you have to fall
and stay down for a minute or so, without making an attempt to get up, before
it calls 911. I do not have an Apple watch, but if I did, I may, or may not,
leave this feature turned on. I think it is a great idea, though.

Fall Detection is off by default unless you are 65 years or older. I would
encourage turning on Fall Detection. Fall Detection is very good at Detecting
False Alarms and gives a person a minute or so to raise from a Fall.

Re: 2 questions about using the phone in IOS12.

2018-10-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

For #1, there's two ways that I'm aware of to turn it off. First is to change
your plan with your carrier. Your plan likely includes something known as
Visual VoiceMail, which automatically does the transcription. Without Visual
VoiceMail, you have to enter your PIN and such to get your VoiceMail messages.
I don't like this option from a VoiceOver user prospective, as I find it much
easier to have the Visual VoiceMail feature where it downloads messages and I
don't need to enter any PIN to hear my messages. The second method requires
you to change your Siri language. The transcription is only supported in
Canadian and US English. So, if you change your Siri language to Australian
English, or some other English that is not Canadian or US, then the
transcription will be unavailable. I just live with it myself. It's like a
reminder that I should check the VoiceMail once in a while since I often forget
when I'm busy with other things.

Hi,

I suspect that the PDF readers are not reading it correctly. This is fairly
normal, especially with Preview. Did you use the Export feature within Pages
itself, or did you go to the Print dialog, then create the PDF through there.
Whichever you tried, maybe try the other method to see if you get a different
result. If it seems the same, then I would just trust that things are fine.

Re: How to rip dvd with handbrake.

2018-10-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

It's been a while since I did this, and it's possible that there are some new
features in the latest version of HandBrake, but overall, there's a lot of
stuff on the page that you don't need to worry about. There should be a drawer
where you can set the preferred export type, such as m4v for most iOS and Apple
devices, mp4 and such. Once you have that set, you put the DVD into the drive,
quit DVD player if it auto-starts, press cmd-o in HandBrake, press cmd-shift-c
so that you can see the cvarious volumes attached to the Mac, select the DVD
and press Open. HandBrake will scan the DVD for titles and such which may take
a while. Once the scanning is done, check where it plans to save the ripped
media and press Start in the Toolbar. There's a lot of extraneous stuff on the
page that you really don't need to worry about. Depending on the speed of your
Mac and the length of the DVD, it may take half and hour or more to rip it.

HTH.

RE: A Charging Pad for iPhone 8 Plus

Subject: A Charging Pad for iPhone 8 Plus

Hello All,

I went to the Apple Store with a friend today and decided to purchase the
special edition Belkin charging pad for my beloved 8 Plus. It was $20 more
than the original model but well worth it as I do not have to pay any special
attention to where I place my phone. I just lay it on the pad and it begins
charging. Nice.

Even better, the pad is rated at 7.5 watts, as opposed to the standard 5 watt
adapter that ships with the phone. So, in addition to the added convenience,
the phone recharges faster on the pad than it would were I to use the original
A/C adapter that shipped with 8 Plus. Very nice, indeed.

I have my 8 Plus in a leather Case Mate folio case with 4-card slots and a
sleeve. It basically look just like a wallet with four slots for credit
cards, photo identification, paper money, etc.

As the case does not impede the charger, there is no need to remove the phone
from the case when placing it on the pad; even nicer, still.

Very, very nice, (smile).

Mark

RE: Fall detection

2018-10-15 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeah I was wondering this one myself,

I’ve got a bad habit of tripping over things,
So I’d need to switch this off.

But hay I’ve not yet got my S4 watch so nothing I need to worry about yet.

Fall Detection is off by default unless you are 65 years or older. I would
encourage turning on Fall Detection. Fall Detection is very good at Detecting
False Alarms and gives a person a minute or so to raise from a Fall.

Hi,

That's a travesty, missing Star Trek. Especially, when you yourself are
extra-terrestrial.

Nothing seems to work. I have disconnected the external drive and I still see

The only thing I have not done is to reboot Apple TV, I miss my Star Trek. :)

Hi,
It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong to me. I suggest you disconnect
then reconnect and make sure to have your computer handy in case there's any
