Re: Apple mail in Mojave

2018-10-23 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Lorie,

I’ve noticed a few weird changes like this in Mojave. There isn’t another
command to send mail, it’s just the announcement that’s changed. Other changes
include ticked instead of checked, volume rather than partition, and I’m sure
there are others I’ve forgotten. However, I find Mojave to be very snappy and
pleasant to use.
Cheers,

Anne

Hi,

There is a mode area, interact with it and change it away from drag mode. You
should be able to use it with that change. Depending on how your cursors
track, you may need to turn off cursor tracking so that the Remove fly-out

I purchased mainstage years back when the 3 Jam Packs were also included and

So I agree, this looks like it would be a really nice option for Steve as well.

Re: Suggestions for backup apps for very big storage?

2018-10-23 Thread Jonathan Cohn
rsync is a Unix tool used to keep two partitions in sync. It is generally set
up between too different computers. It will get checksums or date stamps of
each file and only copy files that have changed. While this is a usable system,
I think it is a bit outdated. Probably your best best is to get a enclosure
that can contain several disk drives and automatically creates a raid between
those drives. If one drive fails, than you will get a warning, you pull out the
bad drive and drop in a new one of the same or larger size, and the enclosure
will automatically put the new disk into the raid cluster. Personally I only
really deal with text based source code and documentation so my disk
requirements are quite small. If you want to ensure a complete solution the
Take Control of Backing Up Your Mac” book by Joe Kissell is quite good and is
probably available at Book Share. The URL to purchase and read more details is:
https://www.takecontrolbooks.com/backing-up

Re: DIsk Warrior, anyone tried it?

2018-10-23 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If you can get sighted assistance and you know there were problems with your
disk before the format, I would get Disk Warrior and have it run a complete
scan, it does or at least used to do quite a bit more checking than the First
Aid application that Apple provides, however especially if it is doing a repair
on the boot drive, than it is running its own copy of the operating system that
has no screen reader associated with it. If the data on the disk is critical, I
would suggest either setting up a raid or spending the extra time / money of
verifying that the disk truly is full operational. I believe Apple Stores can
also run an internal diagnostic that is more complete than FirstAid / check
disk.

App Cleaner help

2018-10-23 Thread Chris Moore
Hello,

Is app cleaner accessible? I downloaded app cleaner, but not sure whether it
works with VO. They talk about dropping an application in the window, but drag
and drop failed with VO.
Has anyone had success with this app?

You could use rsync for this purpose; it can copy only new or changed files,
and optionally compare check sums to detect files that have been modified.

and will the time machine will work on more than 1 session?

i mean:

If i set my time machine to backup my system each week on an external hd.

can i set it to back up another Hd to a new Hd also? or it will get confused?

and if my backup HD is 4 tb, and i need to use time machine to backup 2 Hard
disks, each 1 of them is 1 tb for instance, will it work?

or i must repartetion it?

Re: Suggestions for backup apps for very big storage?

2018-10-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

If you're just using personal external HD's, then why not use Time Machine. It
will do exactly what you're asking, is totally accessible, comes automatically
with your Mac, and is free.

Re: Making Mavericks system for my friend

2018-10-23 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Yes, you can set the USB Flash drive to be the startup disk in System Prefs.
Just follow the prompts and you'll be given the option of where you wish to
install. Select your destination and proceed from there.

Hi guys,

@Cara: i’ve seen logic pro, but I tried to avoid such expensive software seems
I am hobbyist. If I don’t find any other cheaper solution, I’ll go for Logic
Pro.

@van: proTools also sounds good, but does it have a rich library of instruments?
@matt: garage band is accessible with VO. You can hear a series of three
podcasts to learn how to work with it here

Thank you all for the great help.
