RE: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

2018-11-30 Thread KellyFord
Hi,

I have checked the sound cards that the screen readers are configured for and
all of that is correct. So far I've not found any errors in logs.

I use virtual machines from both VMWare and VirtualBox daily on Windows but
wanted to add a Mac to my environment for some work I'm doing and hopefully
still have access to Windows on that machine.

If nothing else, I'll just stick to the USB sound card option. That does work
well.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but have you checked that the screen readers
are configured for the default Windows sound device? They should be, but under
the VM, it's still worth verifying just to be sure.

Do any relevant error messages appear in the Windows event logs?

I haven't tried a VM on the Mac, so I can't offer advice from experience.

Hi,

A new wrinkle has emerged here. I am curious if anyone else is experiencing
this.

I used an ISO from Windows 10 version 1809 to create my virtual machine.
Sound for the VM in general is working. However, Narrator text to speech does
not seem to work correctly.

I can play music or other audio from the VM and it plays fine. In addition,
when Narrator is running, I hear the sounds Narrator makes just not the speech.

I haven't tried other TTS, such as Eloquence with JAWS yet and am also
following up with Narrator contacts.

RE: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

2018-11-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
HI, yeah I really do agree with this.

I’m actually having issues with my VM Fusion windows 10 machine at the moment

I need to have both platforms available to me at the same time and the VM has
worked best for that situation so far, however now I need to do a full reimage
of my 2018 mac book pro and I wanted to save the vm to a flash drive but can't
find the vm files.

This would be so much easier with a second machine

I have had success with VirtualBox previously and still do as long as I don't
update to the 1809 release of Windows. There is an open ticket with Oracle for

Hi Kelly,

I’ve struggled with VMWare Fusion lots as well, but do have it going
pretty much all the time now. The one trick I’ve noticed you have to do
is toggle back and forth in and out of your machine’s screen while it’s
starting up. I hope I can explain this correctly, here goes:

When your machine starts, you’ll eventually hear VO say “suspend this
guest operating system”. At that point, press Command+control+f. You’ll
probably hear VO say something like space with applications followed by
whatever is currently running, like finder, Mail, Messages or whatever.
Press Control+command+f again, and you should hear VO say “Space with
the name of your Windows machine full-screen”. At that point, you know
you are in the VMWare window. Press Control+G to give keyboard focus to
the VM machine. Oh yeah, and the keystroke to start Narrator won’t
work, because VO is picking up the Control+Windows combination as its
command. I normally do Windows+R, then type Narrator, and it does come
up. Then, to get out of Narrator, I have to alt-tab to the Narrator
Settings window, and when I press Alt+F4, Narrator does exit. If you
can get to the point where you can in fact install JAWS, it does work
pretty nicely, by the way. I started out with VMWare 10, and my USB
devices, including my Focus 40 Blue, connected just fine. But then I
tried upgrading to VMWare Version 11, and for some reason I couldn't
get any of my USB devices going, so I had to go back to version 10.

I hope this isn’t confusing, and that maybe others can chime in with
clarifications or other thoughts. Good luck and I hope you can get it going.

Re: Braille issue on Mac.

2018-11-30 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I have been trying to guess at all this multi-lingual Braille. Sometimes in DUO
Lingo learning Hebrew I can type Hebrew Braille and sometimes it merges Hebrew
and English and sometimes I get English letters even though the touch keyboard
is definitely in Hebrew. We have also had questions about how to enter Latin
accented characters recently on the list and if Eight dot computer Braille
would help with this.

Can anybody recommend any resources on this? Everyday I get more comfortable
with Braille but everyday I seem to have more questions.

Re: Braille Display Commands

2018-11-30 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries

Jonathan,
No. I have wasted 2 days with this so after I run errands today, I
will start over with a fresh pairing of the Focus to the iPhone. I had
hoped to work in the iOS mail app by now.

What I would suggest is to go into the Braille commands in VO
settings on the iPhone and browse the list. One command that I think is
worth adding right away is the one that opens the VO settings directly.
I used space 1-3-6. The hard part is finding combinations that do not
conflict. You can also "replace" commands already assigned that you will
not use.

There is one I think Freedom Scientific made an error with. They
assigned the 'activate selected item' command to tap instead of double
tap. Picky but I changed that anyway.

hi,

Note that this is a per document thing. I don't believe that it is an all

RE: VMWare Fusion Question or Two

Hi,

I have checked this and to be clear, computer sounds, music and such plays just
fine without the USB sound card.

Have you checked your vm settings or config to make sure you have an audio
device installed to your vm for audio to be heard.

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is always required but by using a USB audio device, I was
able to get screen reader audio to work on the VMs. This doesn't seem like I
should have to do this but so far at least the VMs are now usable.

Anyone who has resolved this sort of situation, any thoughts on what to try
are appreciated.

This solution fixed at least getting the program launched. I had to
going to privacy and then accessibility and indicate that I wanted to allow
VMware to control my computer. Then when I launched VMware fusion, I had to go
allow the extension.

I am creating my first virtual machine so we'll see how that goes.
Again thank you to everyone who replied here.

Hi,

Donna's solution works well, but there is actually a way to remove the headers
and footers from your document.

• Interact with the Toolbar.
• Select the Document radio button.
• Stop interacting with the Toolbar and navigate to the Formatter area.
• Interact with it, then interact with the Scroll area.
• uncheck the Show Headers and Show Footers checkboxes.
• Done.

HTH.

2018-11-30 Thread Uzzy Galiara
Hi everyone
Is there any way of changing the way a pages document functions? I want it to
work like a Microsoft Word document when writing and editing. For example is
heir a way of removing the header and footer fields?
