How to set up Apple TV and some brief information about it

2018-12-02 Thread Likidefs
Hi Liz,
I’m thinking of purchasing and Apple TV and I would like some information about
it.For example, how are you turn on voiceover so I can set it up. And some
brief information of what I can do with it besides the obvious. Urgent, does
the dictation work properly?
Thanks

Portable mini keyboard for a visually impaired person.

2018-12-02 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hello.

I am wishing to know peoples opinion on which is the best small portable
keyboard is for a visually impaired person. I know lots of people will have
different opinions, but I don’t have a small Bluetooth portable keyboard. I
have to dictate my messages or use my braille display which is a little bit too
big for me to carry about. One of these days I will get a small braille
display, but in the meantime, it would be good to have a very small Bluetooth
keyboard to put in my bag.
I am also wanting to get a Mac at some point next year, maybe around March or
April. It will be good to have a computer again. It has been a couple of years
since I’ve not had one and that is quite a long time.
Thank you very much.

Kawal..

Bluetooth keyboard and mail on the iPhone

2018-12-02 Thread Mary Otten
Because of the really bad luck I have been having with siri dictation, I’m
trying a bt keyboard again, and I’m looking for commands to do things like
accessing the list of suggestions that pops up when you start typing an
address, and also the keyboard command to open a new message window. I know I
can do this stuff from the touch screen. But if you are typing it seems more
efficient to just stick with the keyboard if possible.

Re: cycling through windows on my Mac mini

2018-12-02 Thread Jonathan Cohn
One nice feature of the VoiceOver choosers is that one can type a portion of
the name you are looking for and the chooser will eliminate items that don't
match. This feature is more flexible than the first letter nav available on
other systems in that it will match a string anywhere in the name.
On the other hand, unless you overrode the settings in Keyboard preferences or
disabled it, the command ~ should switch windows in an application.

RE: Recent Skype 8 on Mac OS with VoiceOver

2018-12-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jason,

I just updated to the latest version of Skype on Mac OS Mojave and cannot
reproduce your finding.

In fact, everything seems extremely accessible via VoiceOver.

I am equally impressed with Skype for iOS. It would appear that Microsoft has
finally gotten it right, at least, for now.

By the way, I do not use Skype for business. In fact, I'd never heard of Skype
for business until I read your post.

Subject: Recent Skype 8 on Mac OS with VoiceOver

When I run the current release of Skype 8 on Mac OS Mojave with VoiceOver and
move focus to the Skype window, VoiceOver reports that “Skype has no windows”,
and I am unable to access the application at all. Are others experiencing the
same?

In my case, this doesn’t matter – Skype for Business (part of Office 365) is
quite accessible on the Mac, and that’s the application which I sometimes need
for work purposes. If I really required the consumer version of Skype, I could
probably just visit web.skype.com anyway.

Re: Question regarding re-installing the Mac.

2018-12-02 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

What's happening is normal not just Mojave, but to any MacOS. Reinstalling
from cmd-r is just reinstalling to the Macintosh HD partition and leaves other
partitions alone. Instead, your friend should start up using cmd-option-r,
which starts from the Internet Recovery servers of Apple. Next, select the
Disk Utility option from the given choices and press Continue. When in Disk
Utility, press cmd-2 to have Disk Utility show all info. Now, interact with
the "Select a Disk table" and select the actual disk name. This should same
something like 121 GB Apple SSD or 256 Apple SSD, some sort of size reference
with a disk manufacturer in the title. Do not select the Macintosh HD volume
or the BootCamp volume, these are simply partitions on the actual disk. After
selecting the disk, stop interacting with the table, navigate left to the
ToolBar, interact with it and locate the Erase tab, press it. In the resulting
dialog, title the drive "Macintosh HD", format it as MacOS Extended (Journaled)
with the GUID Partition Scheme, then hit the "Erase" button. After it has
finished the job, press "Done" and quit the Disk Utility app with cmd-q.
This should take you back to the MacOS Utility dialog where you can select
Reinstall MacOS and Continue.

The Disk Utility action should have wiped out any old partitions and set it up
as a brand new wiped clean Mac. The reinstall action will convert the disk to
APFS and install the latest version of MacOS ready to be set up as either a new
machine or restored from Time Machine backup. Restoring from a a Time Machine
backup here would not restore the BootCamp partition as the Time Machine has
only the Macintosh HD data in its radar.

HTH.

He has tried Command plus R and used the re-install option.
This won't do anything and his Mac is exactly the same as before, with a

He has heard somewhere about another key combination, command plus R plus P
then powering the Mac up.
Is this worth a shot?

Please any help would be appreciated, as both me and my friend are at a loss as
what to do next.
And to top it all off, it says in Disk utility bootcamp locked.

And he can't even use that app to remove it.
Whenever he launches it, and clicks continue, it's coming up with the following
message.
I can't remember the exact wording, but it's something like this.
The disk cannot be restored to a single partition.
The startup disk needs to be formatted as Mac Os Extended Journaled.
Like I say that's not the exact wording, but it's something to that affect.

Please any help would be welcomed.

Thanks very much, I look forward to hopefully some responses.
