How to use Calendar with Siri in iOS, iMore

How to use Calendar with Siri

Siri is not just voice commands on all of your Apple devices-it's your
personal digital assistant as well. And with a digital assistant, you'll
probably want to use Siri to manage your hectic schedule. After all, chances
are high that we all have meetings, appointments, and scheduled events to
keep track of every day, so keeping them all together on your iPhone, iPad,
or Mac just makes sense.
However, while inputting everything in manually is totally possible, using
Siri to add, update, and even cancel events just makes your life much
easier, and who doesn't want that?
So here's everything you can do with Siri when it comes to managing your
hectic schedule.

How to create a calendar event with Siri
When you're out-and-about, it can be a hassle to open up Calendar, create a
new event, and then fill out all of the details. In fact, it's much easier
to just tell Siri and have her add it to your Calendar for you.
1. Activate Siri by holding down your Home or Power button, or just say
"Hey Siri".
2. Tell Siri what you want to schedule, including date and time, along
with a name if applicable.
For example, say "Schedule a call with Lory Gil tomorrow at 12 pm." Of
course, you'll replace the names and date and time with your own info.
If you have multiple calendars and want your event to go to a particular
one, make sure to mention it to Siri. Otherwise, it will just go to your
default calendar.
3. Siri will then display a preview of your event and ask you to
confirm.
4. If there is something wrong with the event info, you can tell Siri
to Change to edit details.
5. You can also Cancel the event if you change your mind.
6. If you want to add it to your Calendar, just say Yes when Siri
confirms.

How to update a calendar event with Siri
Sometimes you'll need to make adjustments to your scheduled events because
of last-minute changes and whatnot. We get it, stuff happens, and it's often
a very common thing. Siri can help you make changes to your appointments,
and it's super easy!
1. Activate Siri by holding down your Home or Power button, or say "Hey
Siri".
2. Tell Siri that you want to move or reschedule an event.
Simply say something along the lines of "Move my 3 pm meeting tomorrow" or
"Reschedule my doctor appointment to next Tuesday."
3. When you have multiple events in one day, Siri will ask you to
confirm the event you want to update.
If it's a recurring event, Siri will ask if you want to modify just that
event or all future events. You can tap on the options or speak them to her.
4. Let Siri know what details need to be modified.
For example, you can say "Move my meeting on Thursday at 10 am to tomorrow
at 3 pm."
5. Once you give Siri a new time and date for an appointment, she will
ask you to confirm with a Yes, either verbally or by tapping the button.

How to cancel a calendar event with Siri
If you no longer need to have a meeting on your calendar, just cancel it
completely. Siri is happy to assist with that as well.
1. Activate Siri by holding down the Home or Power button, or just say
"Hey Siri".
2. Tell Siri which event you want to cancel.
For example, you can say "Cancel my lunch with Ryan tomorrow at 4 pm."
If you had multiple meetings with someone, Siri will ask you to confirm the
specific one that you want to cancel.
3. Siri will want you to confirm what you just told her, so just say
Yes or tap the button.

How to view and check your Calendar with Siri
Sometimes we're just crazy busy and forget what's on our calendars. Don't
worry, you can just ask Siri if there's anything scheduled on a particular
day.
1. Activate Siri by holding down your Home or Power button, or just say
"Hey Siri".
2. Tell Siri something along the lines of, "What's my schedule for
today?" or "What's on my calendar for Saturday?" or "What's on my calendar
for May 20?"
3. After you specify a date for Siri to check, she will tell you if
there is anything scheduled, as well as display and read off what they are.

How to use Siri with third-party calendar apps
In iOS 12, Apple added Siri Shortcuts, which allows you to quickly do
everyday tasks with your favorite apps just by asking Siri. This means you
can have Siri work with your favorite third-party calendar apps, like
Fantastical, just by asking. Siri will also learn your routines over time,
suggesting common tasks on the Lock Screen or in Search. But you can add
them manually through the Settings app.
1. Launch Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Scroll down and tap on Siri & Search.
3. Take a look at Suggested Shortcuts and see if there is one for your
preferred third-party calendar app.
4. If it doesn't appear in the suggestions, or if you want to see more,
just tap on All Shortcuts.
5. Go through the list and find your favorite calendar app, t

The correct combination is function, option and right and left arrow for start

Data analysis and reference management applications

2019-04-19 Thread Julie Rattray
Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has any experience of using endnote for Mac or
something similar to store and organise reference lists for journal articles
and papers I have tried endnote and I can get it to do some things but wondered
if anyone is using anything else which might be better?

Also has anyone ever used atlas T or Envivo for analysing textual data and if
so can you tell me if either is accessible with VO before I invest?

Thanks

Problem jumping to the end of a file in Amadeus Pro on macbook has been sold.

2019-04-19 Thread Michael Marshall
hey,
The other day I wrote about my inability to jump to the end of a file using
Amadeus Pro on my new macbook.
After hours of frustration, I believe I have the answer.
If you use function control and right and left arrows, they will take you to
the start and end of recordings.
Right arrow for the end, left arrow for the start.
I usually hit the arrow a couple of times just to make sure, move the insertion
point to the play head and record.
To my great relief, it worked.

Very strange bug with Safari and dictate on Mojave. putting in text twice

2019-04-19 Thread Michael Marshall
hey all,
There is a very interesting little bug I have discovered with dictate and
Safari and I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this using Mojave.
Essentially, dictate will put in the text twice.
So if I put in, latest Australian weather forecast it will go latest Australian
weather forecast latest Australian weather forecast.
Has anyone else come across this? I have to write for example Facebook posts in
a text document and paste them in.
It is quite perplexing.

I am seeing the same issue on my 2015 MacBook Pro. Seems like this isn’t

Sending higher quality voice messages in Mac OS 10.14.4?

2019-04-19 Thread 'Dan Eickmeier' via MacVisionaries
Hi all, I’ve updated to MAc OS 10.14.4, and according to the release notes, the
quality of audio messages has been improved on the MAc side, as well as on iOS.
On iOS, it works great for me, voice messages I send, are nice and clear..
However, on the MAc, an early 2014 MAcBook air, I’m getting the same, low, 8K
quality as before. Is anybody else experiencing this? Is support for sending
higher quality voice messages, not available on the mac yet, despite what the
release notes say?

Braille Display on Mojave

2019-04-19 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
I started working with my Focus 5th on the Mac. I've some questions.
Using keyboard help I find that Voiceover does not announce what the
commands, space 2, space 5, left or right panning are for when those
keys are pressed. These are assigned commands. Not sure if they actually
work, still getting used to this.

Now I need to learn some basics like reading etc. I realize this is
rather generic but I have to start somewhere. Would appreciate some
tips, Off list would be ok too. Thanks. :)

chrome vox settings

2019-04-19 Thread jean parker
Hello All:

I hope this is a simple question but you never know. I am using Chrome vox for
mac and there are times when I don’t want to use it or when I want to change
the speed. Is there a shortcut to some kind of settings menu? I checked in the
preferences under extentions but found nothing useful.
All suggestions welcome and thanks in advance,
Jean

The New York Times has a great indexed searchable version. Full disclosure, I
don’t know if it’s a PDF, because I haven’t looked it over yet. That said, I
do know it’s there, and I got the sense that it wasn’t PDF. Hope this helps.

Mueller reportc

2019-04-19 Thread Phil Halton

Does anybody know how I can download the Mueller report? When I go to the DOJ
website all I get is blank pages. It looks like a PDF file made up of JPEG‘s.
Any help? Sent from my IPhone

Re: BLuetooth oddity in Ios.

2019-04-19 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

Actually this was put in during v11. The bluetooth and WiFi in the control
panel, don’t actually turn them off, but just disable new connections.

So, if you are using airpots and then turn off BlueTooth, then the AirPods
continue to be used.

2019-04-19 Thread David The Computer Guy
I have heard in the next several updates, they are going to fix that problem,
currently, the control center just disconnect the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for
whatever they are connected to without turning off the antenna.

 understatement of the highest degree.

Now I've never been to any of Apple's flagship stores, here on the

that ineffable quality that sets Apple apart from other tech companies.

As for the Apple representatives? Well, they were the most attentive

just to see if my initial impression was accurate; and yes, it was, indeed.

Now when I travel, I like to purchase products from significant store

Starbucks store, the first Nordstrom store, Amazon Go, etc.

So of course I had to buy something from the Royal Hawaiian Apple
Store because I may never get that way, again. The problem is that I
couldn't think of anything I needed, (smile).

In the end, I decided to buy a secondary iPad charger for my new iPad Pro.
I am using it to more rapidly charge my beloved iPHone 8 Plus.

While all of my local Apple stores are great places to explore the
world of Apple, I can definitely say that the Royal Hawaiian location
is a cut above and has forever changed my idea of what world class
customer service looks and feels like.

I loved Hawaii but, as the saying goes, there's no place like home.

 Aloha,

 Mark

BLuetooth oddity in Ios.

2019-04-19 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
On my Iphone Xr i have encountered an odd issue.
If i turne off bluetooth in the control center and then go to settings and
bluetooth the switch here is still turned on.
I don’t know if this is a bug but i guess so.
The wrkaround is to ask Siri to turn off bluetooth.
Then its also off in the settings.
Really odd.
I have the latest Ios.
