Re: Text Editors for Mac

2019-04-27 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries

Simon,
I don't know what that is but have been trying different things and
have determined I should avoid plain text formats. So I went to .rtf
which may do it. TextEdit will open that on the Mac and edited the
document in TextEdit then viewed it under Windows in MS Word and it came
through fine.

The only hitch is on the iPhone when I access the document via the
Files app, Voice Dream Reader launches. I don't want that. I do have MS
Word which I ma need to activate, and Pages as well. I will activate MS
Word and see what happens. Using iCloud Drive I wish to make life easy
for me (smiles) and be able to read and edit as needed on any platform.

Hmm, Mac Vim. Will look at that too but if I can work around Voice
Dream Reader I will have it nailed down.

I am taking a different path to see if I can easily create or edit text
files on the Mac that will read correctly in Windows.

TwctEdit does not insert the CR and LF codes needed by Windows. I do not
want to take extra steps to work around this such as using LineBreak which was
last updated in 2008. If I can save files as .txt in Pages that may work but
again, that means extra work.

So I am looking for accessible (and free) text editors for the Mac that
just might work.

Hello.

What I don’t understand is why do people say that they are going to install a
glass protector on such and such a device. Because I don’t think you are going
to install anything on your device unless it’s software related. What he really
should be saying is that you are going to cover your device with a glass
protector.

Re: Safari web experience getting less and less satisfying

2019-04-27 Thread Katie Zodrow
I haven't noticed too many problems with using Safari recently on my iPhone.
Sometimes, I might not always be in the correct form field, but that doesn't
happen to often. When I'm on my Mac and go to different websites, sometimes the
site takes forever to load. If I'm trying to read an article, Voiceover says
Safari busy because it's still loading the page. I'm using an older Mac, so
that might be the problem. I'm not sure. Other than that, I haven't had
problems using Safari on either device.

diffferent websites, and I've noticed that a lot of forms don't work or do
what they are expected to. Like simple popup buttons, search text fields
or normal text fields. It's getting pretty shoddy at this point, and
putting me off from doing anything on the web outside of reading.

 Is anyone experiencing this?

 have a great sunday

Re: Safari web experience getting less and less satisfying

2019-04-27 Thread Lorie McCloud
oh, I was speaking of on a Mac. the problem I'm having with IOS concerns the
facebook app. when I tap on an entry to read an article, it loads and it'll
read if I find the first heading and swipe down but if I touch the screen
anywhere it doesn't say anything. if the reading gets stuck on an advertisement
that means I can't read the article because I can't find my place by touching
the screen and hearing text as I used to be able to.

Re: Safari web experience getting less and less satisfying

2019-04-27 Thread Mary Otten
I can’t say that I’ve noticed a large deterioration with the Safari and forms.
I have certainly had issues with some, but that has always been the case. And
even on a PC or before on a Mac, I have had problems with various things at
various times. Generally speaking, I really appreciate this safari iOS web
experience.

yes to some extent I'm having the same experience. I'm not sure if forms are
changing and Safari accessibility isn't changing with them or what I've notice
that sometimes a mouse click: vo-shift-space, will do the job if enter or

More on the Primephonic app accessibility issues

2019-04-27 Thread Mary Otten
Hi folks,
For those of you who are considering the Primephonic app, if you do decide to
sign up, you will get an email from them welcoming you to their service. That
email includes a support address. There are accessibility issues with this app
on the homepage. Or I should say perhaps the home tab. They have sections for
new releases, daily recommendations, etc. Those are pictures. Sometimes,
voiceover will find some text, but not always. If you double tap on one of the
blank spaces, you will be taken to the corresponding album. But that is not a
good way to find out what you’re tapping on. I just sent them a support request
pointing out the problem, praising them for the good parts of the app, and
requesting that they provide labels on their pictures in the recommendations
section. I hope others who download the app and like it, will join me and
making this request. It’s still a useful app, but if they fix this problem, it
will really be awesome.
Mary

Text Editors for Mac

2019-04-27 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
I am taking a different path to see if I can easily create or edit
text files on the Mac that will read correctly in Windows.

TwctEdit does not insert the CR and LF codes needed by Windows. I do
not want to take extra steps to work around this such as using LineBreak
which was last updated in 2008. If I can save files as .txt in Pages
that may work but again, that means extra work.

So I am looking for accessible (and free) text editors for the Mac
that just might work.

Re: App Specific Passwords

2019-04-27 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
You actually do not need an app for this. Just go through the steps
to create the password. Then try to get Voiceover to find the dialog and
copy the password. When you are done, you can go to View History to
remove any passwords that were created.

Specific passwords are only needed for certain non-secure apps in the
Google world.  Most stock Apple apps like Mail no longer require App
Specific passwords.

RE: Mark's Recommendation for a Great iPad Screen Protector

2019-04-27 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kawal,

A screen protector is considered to be installed because it becomes a permanent
part of the device. In fact, if you think about it, a screen protector is,
more likely than not, more permanent than any app because an app may be, quote,
uninstalled, quote, on a whim.

A cover, on the other hand, implies a more temporary state; for example, one
may cover a device to protect it from the rain.

Regardless, it's just a matter of semantics and as the saying goes, to each,
his, or in this case, her, own. (smile.)

Hello.

What I don’t understand is why do people say that they are going to install a
glass protector on such and such a device. Because I don’t think you are going
to install anything on your device unless it’s software related. What he really
should be saying is that you are going to cover your device with a glass
protector.

Hi Anne,
I suppose the discrepancy you mentioned and others must be due to something
having to do with disagreement over royalties for streaming. I can’t imagine

I can't help, but if I can find the right channel, I have been able to read the

then I can't change it to another channel. I wish they could made the interface

Subject: Seeing AI And Reading Of Bar Codes

  Hi all,

I’ve been trying to get Seeing AI to read bar codes with two different
iPhones now, an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 7, and I can’t seem to get any results
on either device. I can get it to sound the tones indicating I’ve found the
code, and they are pulsating quickly which means I’m directly over the code,
but the tones just keep on sounding and nothing else happens. Is there
something else I need to do once I’m in place so I can get a read out?

  Thanks for any help,
  Pete De Vasto

Re: Seeing AI And Reading Of Bar Codes

2019-04-27 Thread Lynn Schneider
I’ve noticed that I am having trouble with this app also lately. I am glad to
hear that others are having the same experience, but it really makes me sad, as
I depend on this app a lot. I was actually about to reinstall it, thinking
there was just some kind of problem on my end. Honestly, I love this app so
much that I am willing to pay for it. I’m going to send off a message to the
developer to see what the status is. Anyway, hoping for better news soon. Take
care and thanks for listening.Lynn

Yes, slowly move the iPhone across the barcode. When I check cans I slowly roll
the cans underneath the iPhone. It takes a little getting used to but I have
always gotten good results doing this.

Re: Mark's Recommendation for a Great iPad Screen Protector

2019-04-27 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hello.

What I don’t understand is why do people say that they are going to install a
glass protector on such and such a device. Because I don’t think you are going
to install anything on your device unless it’s software related. What he really
should be saying is that you are going to cover your device with a glass
protector.

Re: PrimePhonic an app for a Classical Music lovers

2019-04-27 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Mary,

Something I find strange about Apple Music is that not all artists whose music
can be bought from iTunes is available on Apple Music. I’ve recently become
fascinated by Acadian music and have bought several albums from iTunes, but my
favourite Acadian musician, Cayouche, can’t be found on Apple Music despite
having 5 albums in the iTunes Store.
Cheers,

Anne

Seeing AI And Reading Of Bar Codes

2019-04-27 Thread Pete De Vasto
Hi all,

I’ve been trying to get Seeing AI to read bar codes with two different iPhones
now, an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 7, and I can’t seem to get any results on
either device. I can get it to sound the tones indicating I’ve found the code,
and they are pulsating quickly which means I’m directly over the code, but the
tones just keep on sounding and nothing else happens. Is there something else I
need to do once I’m in place so I can get a read out?

Thanks for any help,
Pete De Vasto

Re: PrimePhonic an app for a Classical Music lovers

2019-04-27 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Mary:

You're the second person who's recommended Prime Phonic just in the past
week.

It's a very major selling point that these folks understand that
classical music can't be simply shrugged off as "songs." Large classical
works, even smaller works, are intentional successions of component
individual parts. In concertos and symphonies, those parts are called
movements. In opera they're called acts and scenes. It's definitely
important that a classical music service understand that the movements
of Beethoven symphonies should be played in order, from the same
recording session.

Best,

Janina

RE: Mark's Recommendation for a Great iPad Screen Protector

2019-04-27 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Mark,

Thanks for this,

I've been looking today for one for my new iPad Pro 11".

Then after playing with the new folio keyboard I can tell that actually having
to touch the screen will be limited due to the shortcut keys included in the
smart keyboards.

Subject: Mark's Recommendation for a Great iPad Screen Protector

Hello All,

Recently, I purchased a 10.5 inch iPad Pro.

Even though the device has a marvelous retina display, I began to regret
touching it primarily because of the fact that it seems to attract dust and
finger-oil particles and smudges more than any other Apple device I've ever
owned. I checked with a buddy of mine, at the Apple Store, and he readily
concurred with my finding.

In short, unlike with my beloved iPhone 8 Plus, with its tempered glass screen
protector onboard, my fingers would not slide smoothly across the surface of
the iPad Pro because of the rapid buildup of dust and oil particles.

So, after conducting much research, I came across a tempered glass screen
protector for my iPad Pro for a little less than $10.

I have been using it for a couple of days, now, and it is absolutely fantastic.
In fact, I would say that the iPad Pro display is now as enjoyable to touch as
my 8 Plus in that my fingers slide smoothly across the surface because there is
no longer any rapid buildup of dust and oil particles.

I am going to post a link to the iPad 10.5 Pro product as it is listed on
Amazon but please note that the company does make tempered glass screen
protectors for virtually all of the iPad product lines.

Also note that, while the product is easy to install, I recommend that you have
a sighted person perform the installation. Based on my experience, all things
being equal, including the cleaning of your iPad display, installation could
take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark
