Re: Buying a mac: back to the drawing board

2019-06-01 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Personally I’d go for the bigger oomf, but that is just my opinion. I see it as
more future proofing, I’m certainly not an expert. But I do remember getting my
first iPhone and going for the smaller memory and regretting it later. I
probably got more power than I need with my MacBook now, but I might need it
later. And if it is a reasonable price then I’d go for it.

Buying a mac: back to the drawing board

2019-06-01 Thread B G
apple have just confirmed the refund for the MacBook by email. I
decided that a mac Mini would meet my use-cases more wholesomely than
a MacBook. Initially the plan was to stick to the same hardware
parameters - 16GB ram, 256GB ssd and an i5 processor. The nice man
from Apple however is offering me a much more impressive machine for a
very reasonable price. it has a 32GB ram, 256GB ssd and an i7
processor. yes, plenty oomf there ladies and gentlemen but my question
is, do I need that much power given what I would use it for? To recap,
my two main use-cases are: (a) running copies of MS Windows
simultaneously on VMWare Fusion and (b) programming for Mac OS and
iOS. At a later date I might even decide to load it with Logic pro
and N.I. for making music, but that really is not a priority at this
point in time.
In short, will a machine of that description offer marked, significant
improvement over one with the specification I previously had in mind?
Thoughts from everyone and specially the more experienced hacks would
be gratefully received.
Incidentally, I am typing this in the web box which offers me no
spell-check; so apologies for any spelling error.
With thanks, Benji

Voice Over and annotations in pages.

2019-06-01 Thread Leo Bado

Hello everyone,

My question is simple:

How to stop voice over from reading comments and annotations on pages?

I’ve tried checking all the options related to hiding comments under the
view menu, but nothing seems to work. I use low verbosity level as the
default verbosity for voice over, and I’ve already looked for something
in voice over utilities that can be related to comments or annotations
but I haven’t found anything.

Does someone know how to do this?

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-06-01 Thread 'Sabahattin Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
I reluctantly bought it. I hope I don’t get buyer’s remorse, even though I’m
almost sure I will. My problem is that my current iPod is an iPhone 6S Plus, a
great device at the right size and with Touch ID, but with inadequate storage.
An iPod Touch is a clear upgrade—or it would be, if not for the loss of Touch
ID and the smaller size. But at least it’s grabable, fits on my bedside shelf
(unlike an iPad Mini), and you don’t need a SIM to activate the bloody thing
every time. Plus of course it’s a general-purpose device in a way that the
iPad or iPhone isn’t, can be used tethered as well as on Wi-Fi, and runs iPhone
applications I like and in the right format.

Let’s face it, Apple is only keeping the iPod alive for the benefit of existing
buyers here. They don’t like it because it stands in the way of their quest
for world domination through their indispensable iOS devices, like iPhones and
iPads, for which they don’t want competition from a combination of an iPod with
some other device. The Touch is for the kids, and ageing pack rats like
myself. And us, of course.

Have you checked whether any of these are supported by an app? Not that

Re: Any Greek speakers on this list?

2019-06-01 Thread Jelal Bairamoglou

Hello. I use the Greek language and I have no problem with macOS Mojave 10.14.5.
Hold down control option command shift and select the Greek Voice.
Go to VoiceOver settings and select default voice in Greek.
Go to system settings and select the Greek language as default and restart your
system.
Note:
If you want the Greek to be pronounced correctly, you need to switch the
language from English to Greek at any one time. Unfortunately, this is a system
problem that apple needs to know about it.
If you do not like Greek as a system default, you can choose English as the
default language and restart your computer and you will have a system that
speaks correctly in Greek.

Hi!
One can wonder why actually?
Of course its a small and great device but come on, you can store anything on
your phone instead.
But Simon you should try to get a refurbished Iphone SE instead.
You can get that les expensive than the Ipod touch.

Just took Lazarillo out for a spin ... my, it does have an appetite - the

but overall quite good, thanks for the suggestion.
Any others?

Hi,

I doubt that it will be that problematic to make the change over. I expect
that it will be similar to the looks and feel of the iOS Music app, but may
have a bit more to it since it's on the Mac. I would guess that playlists,
smart playlists, folders and such will all still be there and I don't see why
they wouldn't support all the music and music features that already exist.
Just a minor learning curve from my prospective. Now, of course, these are my
suppositions, as no one can really know anything with respect to Apple until
the actual release.
