of this partition and I am having sound card issues and both OS X and
windows and I’m not quite sure what the fix is going to be? Any

Re: Clean install of Catalina with Boot Camp?

2019-10-14 Thread 'Robert Cole' via MacVisionaries
Hi Matthew,
Does Catalina recognize the boot camp partition since it wasn’t created with
Catalina?
I thought that erasing the Mac HD, would also erase the windows partition.

Playing Voice Mail Messages On iPhone

2019-10-14 Thread Pete De Vasto
Hi all,

I have an iPhone 7 with the very latest iOS running, and use Visual Voicemail
any time I get a message. It used to be that you could tap on a Speaker button,
and the message would play through the main phone speaker, rather than what you
hold up to your ear. It used to be very tricky to accomplish this, but now it
seems like with iOS 13 I can’t get output through the phone speaker at all. I
do find a button that says “playback destination”, and when I tap it it sounds
like the direction of the sound is changing, but still when I play a message it
only comes through the little speaker on top of the phone. I hope this is
making sense. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so is there a
workaround? I’m wondering if this is related to the other issue that’s been
discussed at great length about what happens after phone calls.

Thanks so much for any help,
Pete De Vasto

Hi,

I just did this on my iMac from, 2013 a few days ago and if you hav a bootable

Mac OS partition and select erase from the toolbar and then do the install in

Hello,

I didn’t call the accessibility team, as this isn’t an accessibility issue. I
did call tech support, and they just said I should update, which I am not
willing to do fully right now.

Unexpected fan speedup in Mojave.

2019-10-14 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
My macbook air mid 2015 has gotten an unexpected fan speedup.
This happens when i use safari and mail but most of the time when i use safari.
When i quit safari it stops.
But in the activity monitor the process is only using like 2% of the processor.
VoiceOver though uses 102% of the processor.
Is this a normal behaviour?
Thanks in advance.

Yesterday, I made a call to my Pharmacy with my iPhone XR and when I hangedd up

lossed all sounds. Hardware reset and performed other tasks. When Jonathan
Mosen lost all sounds on his iPhone 11, he still had Braille and made a call

stream a radio station before making a call. I just told Siri to play a song

Re: No joy with Spotlight

2019-10-14 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I guess it depends on what you're searching for. Yes, Spotlight brings up
dictionary definitions, possible files whereas cmd-f only returns files and
such. I don't do anything fancy, just press cmd-f, enter the search criteria,
press return, stop interacting with the ToolBar, then select the radio button
for This Mac, or the current folder/volume. I can change the view of the
results, get more granular and search only for media files, include System
files etc. Spotlight is an excellent resource, but I'm just more used to using
the cmd-f.

Re: Shutting Down Quick Nav When Not in Safari

2019-10-14 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Maybe I'm confused by the wording of the question, but Safari does not need to
be open, nor do you need to configure any settings while in the Safari app.
Everything is set while in the Activities pane of VO Utility. Set the
parameters you want all from the available items in the Activity creation
settings area including the application to apply these settings to. The system
will automatically apply the given settings whenever you open Safari, or
whatever app you set when configuring the activity.

Re: No joy with Spotlight

2019-10-14 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I usually use cmd-f instead of the regular Spotlight search. Not sure why,
just prefer it. So, cmd-f then enter the search text and press return. Does
the same as Spotlight, but I have more controls. Also, if doing this from
within a specific folder or volume, there's a radio button where you can select
to search from within the current folder/volume or on the entire Mac.

Re: Selecting non contiguous files with VoiceOver?

2019-10-14 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

to select non-contiguous items, interact with the table or area, using VO
navigation, move through the items you wish to select pressing VO-cmd-return on
the items you wish to select. After all have been selected, press cmd-c to
copy. The key here is to use VO navigation, not arrow navigation as arrow
navigation will end up deselecting what you've already selected.

I'm sending this eMail from a MbP running Cataline and have had no real issues,
although some other folks have experienced some. I guess I'm just lucky.

RE: No joy with Spotlight

2019-10-14 Thread Simon A Fogarty
The easiest way to open spotlight is the command space bar option so hold the
command key and hit the space bar once to open the search box then type what
you believe it is your searching for.

Spotlight will now search for applications on your machine as well as files
folders words or the words you search for within files and also on the
interwebness

But it comes down to what you search for is what you'll receive hits on.

Hope that helps.

Since I upgraded to Mojave, I have not been able to do anything functional with
Spotlight or any way of finding something on my computer. I try to follow the
one thing I see on the internet which says to press VO+m three times and
Spotlight will come up. This doesn't happen, so no problem, use
command+spacebar. I type in a search string and I always and only see a list of
folders on my backup/media disk. These never have anything to do with what I'm
looking for. I used to love the command+option+spacebar, but this doesn't seem

No joy with Spotlight

2019-10-14 Thread 'Kristeen Hughes' via MacVisionaries
Since I upgraded to Mojave, I have not been able to do anything functional with
Spotlight or any way of finding something on my computer. I try to follow the
one thing I see on the internet which says to press VO+m three times and
Spotlight will come up. This doesn't happen, so no problem, use
command+spacebar. I type in a search string and I always and only see a list of
folders on my backup/media disk. These never have anything to do with what I'm
looking for. I used to love the command+option+spacebar, but this doesn't seem
to work any longer. It would simply search the folder I was in, which is what I
want. I realize this may not be clear or enough. Let me know what can help so
that someone can help me, please!!!

Selecting non contiguous files with VoiceOver?

2019-10-14 Thread 'Gary Price' via MacVisionaries
Morning everyone!
Please can someone tell me how to select non contiguous files on the Mac using
VoiceOver?
I'm asking for a friend who wants to send me some books, but wants to do a non
contiguous selection.

Before I sign off, has anyone on here installed Catalina yet? If yes what is it
like?
See my Mac is low on power and I know when I plug it in I might get the update.
