interesting bug with mail on catalina

2019-10-15 Thread Michael Marshall
hey all,
A very interesting little situation in the mail app on catalina.
In the view preferences, I have the preview set to 0 lines but yet when i move
through the list of messages, i still get them read to me even before i open
them.
Is there something I'm missing here? Has anyone else noticed this?

Michael

Re: iPhone XS Max Urgent Help.

2019-10-15 Thread Georges Zaynoun
Now problem is over, since I discovered that VoiceOver was not exiting
correctly and although Siri said it is off I was able to give Siri
commands like setting a timer or reporting the weather or naming a tune
etc, I was unable to open any app at all but I could stream live radio
with Siri, so I emptied the battery and when I powered it back to
charge it returned functioning as usual.

Original message:

Hi,

I suspect that the slider is working normally, just that the sighted
person is using non-VO gestures to attempt to enact the action. You can
either turn off VO and have the sighted person turn off your iPhone, or
press and hold the side button and the volume down buttons for a few
seconds, to bring up the Power Down dialog, then flick left a few times
until the haptic vibration tells you that you've got to the left most
button, then double-tap. This will shut down the iPhone and will not
call emergency services. Make sure you flick left enough times to feel
the haptic vibration. After you restart, you should have normal VO again.

Hi!
To begin with and before I get the question I am on the last update on

Suddenly speech stopped completely and the cursor on the Braille
display began dancing but I couldn't navigate any more. Tried to
restart my Braille display as I do in such situations for no avail.
Exited and restarted VoiceOver with both Siri and the side button and
Siri is confirming as usual but the Braille is remembering even when
VoiceOver the last state it was displaying i.e the last words I wrote.
I am enabling Voice Control to try open settings-general-shut down but
no voice feedback. Tried connecting it to iTunes but it is saying I
must continue on the iPhone to allow Sync. Finally I chased a sighted
woman and she confirmed my worries, the slider to shut down does not
work and not when I connect it to iTunes either to allow sync with pc.
Now I want to force it shut down but how for heavens sake? I am getting
notifications from the apps on it and it rings, I tapped while on
charging from cable vol-up-voldown then held on power but it is
shouting serene and calling sos, any help thanks.

Should be hard to replicate, otherwise probably it would be already on the go

Hi,

There must be some combination of settings that is causing this for those
of you who experience it more than others. I did some testing this morning,
and could not replicate the problem while using the iPhone without headphones.
I made numerous outgoing calls, disconnected the call myself first,
disconnected it first from the other phone, tried to disconnect simultaneously,
all with no loss of sound. I thought that maybe since speaker routing was
possibly a factor, I did the same while on speaker phone. Still no loss of
sound. I tried the same scenarios on an a number of incoming calls and still
did not lose sound. Again, since audio routing may be a factor, I enabled the
"Auto-Detect Speaker In Call" feature under Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver,
Audio. I still did not lose sound after ending the call in all the ways
mentioned above. I did not try again with headphones on, but I was attempting
to replicate the issue as others have explained it. I just must be bloody
lucky right now as I'm not experiencing this problem and I certainly would find
it frustrating, maybe even exasperating if I did have it happen as often as
others have reported. I guess I'll just hope that the big boys at Apple figure
it out soon so that this can be eliminated.

Re: iPhone XS Max Urgent Help.

2019-10-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I suspect that the slider is working normally, just that the sighted person is
using non-VO gestures to attempt to enact the action. You can either turn off
VO and have the sighted person turn off your iPhone, or press and hold the side
button and the volume down buttons for a few seconds, to bring up the Power
Down dialog, then flick left a few times until the haptic vibration tells you
that you've got to the left most button, then double-tap. This will shut down
the iPhone and will not call emergency services. Make sure you flick left
enough times to feel the haptic vibration. After you restart, you should have
normal VO again.

Hi,

There must be some combination of settings that is causing this for

disconnected the call myself first, disconnected it first from the
other phone, tried to disconnect simultaneously, all with no loss of
sound.  I thought that maybe since speaker routing was possibly a
factor, I did the same while on speaker phone.  Still no loss of
sound.  I tried the same scenarios on an a number of incoming calls
and still did not lose sound.  Again, since audio routing may be a
factor, I enabled the "Auto-Detect Speaker In Call" feature under
Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Audio.  I still did not lose
sound after ending the call in all the ways mentioned above.  I did
not try again with headphones on, but I was attempting to replicate
the issue as others have explained it.  I just must be bloody lucky
right now as I'm not experiencing this problem and I certainly would
find it frustrating, maybe even exasperating if I did have it happen
as often as others have reported.  I guess I'll just hope that the
big boys at Apple figure it out soon so that this can be eliminated.

iPhone XS Max Urgent Help.

2019-10-15 Thread Georges Zaynoun

Hi!
To begin with and before I get the question I am on the last update on
iOS. I was editing an email and was using SmartBeetle Braille display.

I had this happen to me today on an outgoing call. I wasn’t using headphones,
just the i phone itself. I had to reboot the phone to get sounds and speech

Re: Unexpected fan speedup in Mojave.

2019-10-15 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

No, this is not normal per se, although it's not totally abnormal either.
There may be some background processes coincidentally happening that affect the
load on the processors, or one of the processors might be heating up a little
more than usual, so the fans believe that they should engage. Even though
Safari may not be the lone culprit, when you combine the CPU usage of VO along
with the vast array of other background activities, may just combine to create
enough heat to require fan cooling. I wouldn't worry about it unless it
continues for days. Sometimes a restart will clean things up.

Hi!
My macbook air mid 2015 has gotten an unexpected fan speedup.
This happens when i use safari and mail but most of the time when i use safari.
When i quit safari it stops.
But in the activity monitor the process is only using like 2% of the processor.
VoiceOver though uses 102% of the processor.
Is this a normal behaviour?
Thanks in advance.

If I recall correctly, yes, both times were on an outgoing call, and both times
