Re: Notifications

2019-11-05 Thread Gabe Griffith
Hi,

Glad to know I'm not the only one who is struggling with this change. I agree
with you tim that there are probably benefits both ways but I too sort of miss
being able to just clear it and have a notification and just have it go away.
It would be nice if there were both a clear button to get rid of notifications
you don't want showing up again and the dismiss button for notifications you
want to have go away but may want to access again at some point.

HomePod told me „You are using iOS 13.2.1“. I‘m not able to test this myself in

Coming Back to Android

2019-11-05 Thread Holly

Hello,

I purchased an Android tablet, TabA8, the other day. This is after about
five years of not using Android. So I’ve got a few questions, as I’ve got
about 27 days to decide if this is right for me before the return window
closes.

1. What do you do productivity wise with your Android device?

2. What are some good resources, such as podcasts, that I could use to
learn more about apps and TalkBack itself?

3. What areas of Android are really inaccessible?

4. What, in your opinion, are the most serious bugs in TalkBack?

5. What are some accessible games for Android?

Thanks so much in advance.

Holly

Hi all,
One thing I haven’t managed to work out is how to play DVD’s on my
Mac. I plug my external DVD player in and put the DVD  in it but can
never seem to find the controls to press play. Well sometimes they
appear but I can’t seem to activate them. Does the brand of DVD player
matter? I think my one is called Transned or something like that, I
was trying to use Seeing AI to read the brand name. Suppose I should
have gotten the Apple DVD player? I do have an old DVD  player
connected to my TV but I don’t get any kind of voice feedback in the
menus for turning on the audio description so thought I could try the
Mac.

I use it on both actually my windows machine
I use it on my phone and mac for the other reason that it allows me to connect

How to change the boys on my brand-new Apple watch?

2019-11-05 Thread maurice.mines
Hello, hi for very interesting set of reasons had to upgrade my Apple
Watch this past weekend. Now I’m trying to figure out how to separate
its voice from my phone. I’ve gotten several different answers in
general from Apple disability tech support. So is there a
straightforward way to do this? It is a brand-new series 5 watch,
running of course the latest version of watch OS. Thank you in advance
for any suggestions and/or guidance someone on the list has to offer.

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

activity monitor on Watch Os

2019-11-05 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Morning Mac world,

I've noticed over a few weeks the activity monitor on my apple watch s4 with
the latest WatchOS version installed,
Doesn't register the time I walk for when exercising
In todays case a 59 minute outdoor walk,

It registered heart rate and movement and elevation measurements etc,
But it onlypicks up on in this case less than half the time walking.

Has anyone else noticed this what I call an issue?

Cheers

Hell Andrew,

If that's going to get you down til the day you kick the bucket then
You need to get out more.

It's just a PDF reader and nothings worth getting that upset by it.

Hi all,
For some reason the names of the people I send iMessages too in the messages
app on the Mac don’t show any more. I Messaged my wife yesterday and it only
shows her phone number and not her name. I upgraded to Catalina on Friday last
week but I’m pretty sure the messages app was still behaving normally on
Monday. This only started after I signed out of my Apple ID and then signed
back in again.

Playing DVD's on the Mac

2019-11-05 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi all,
One thing I haven’t managed to work out is how to play DVD’s on my Mac. I plug
my external DVD player in and put the DVD in it but can never seem to find the
controls to press play. Well sometimes they appear but I can’t seem to activate
them. Does the brand of DVD player matter? I think my one is called Transned or
something like that, I was trying to use Seeing AI to read the brand name.
Suppose I should have gotten the Apple DVD player? I do have an old DVD player
connected to my TV but I don’t get any kind of voice feedback in the menus for
turning on the audio description so thought I could try the Mac.

Audacity for Mac

2019-11-05 Thread Lorie McCloud
do you guys think Audacity for Mac is accessible enough to make it worth the
trouble of installing and learning? mostly what I want to do with it is cut
files. my other question is about over-riding my security setting so I can
install it. the help menu says to control click it but that doesn't do anything
when I do it.

thanks.

busy" but would work eventually. Then when I got to the artist's
actual page, it just got stuck on busy. This is happening far too
often and I am winding up using Windows in Fusion, which has its own
issues. It drains the battery more quickly and just isn't as
responsive. With all of the other issues in Catalina and IOS 13, I am
considering just buying a PC. Apple's quality control is just not
there anymore. Are other people experiencing "Safari busy"
frequently? Have you found a solution?

 Thanks in advance,

Re: Safari and Allmusic.com

2019-11-05 Thread 'Kristeen Hughes' via MacVisionaries

The start page is not a problem for me, but after typing in a search cryteria,
I can never access the results. It just keeps saying it's busy and that's it.

This doesn’t mean they exist for others.

you’re having problems with?
Its very klunky built in my opinion so i am not amazed that some might have
problems with it.
But the start page seems to work fine for me.

Re: Messages app on the Mac

2019-11-05 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Hmmm, that's interesting. I wonder if that's the case in locales other than
North America where there are so many different country codes. I haven't seen
this in my contacts here in Canada, although 99% of mine have Canada numbers.

Re: Messages app on the Mac

2019-11-05 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Petrus,

Check that Contacts is ticked under your Apple ID in System Prefs. The
Messages app refers to the Contacts to give those items names instead of
numbers. So, go to System Preferences, press the Apple ID button on the
initial pane of System Prefs, select iCloud from the first table, then interact
with the Services table. In the Services table, make sure that Contacts is
checked to sync your contacts with your Mac. You may also wish to confirm
other services that you want syncing with iCloud.

Later...

Viewing PDF files on Mac OS Catalina

2019-11-05 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Can anyone recommend a hopefully free PDF viewer App for Mac OS Catalina which
works well with VoiceOver? The Apps I have tried do a poor job with tables such
as bank account details and often miss out the last column. I have to export
difficult documents to my iPhone and use Voice Dream Reader to read them. I
then export the text which Voice Dream Reader produces back to Mac OS. The
results are good but the process is awful! Is there a Mac OS App which does as
good a job as Voice Dream Reader?
Many thanks for any tips.
Paul Hopewell

Re: Notifications

2019-11-05 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

I've noticed a similar sort of thing where the notifications must be actually
cleared instead of ignoring them and going to the Home screen. Like Phil, I'm
not sure if this is a bug or intentional. There are some benefits to this, but
I kind of liked it when I could just clear them quickly by going directly to
the Home screen. I often now will clear or dismiss them using swipe up/down
when on the Lock screen to get rid of them. It's not consistent as to whether
they remain, or at least certain kinds of notifications react differently
sometimes.

I’m afraid it used to happen to me in earlier versions too. I have resorted to
muting Voiceover with double tripple finger tap so that I wouldn’t here these
