Yesterday my wife and I spent the evening in an Apple Store trying to fix this
annoying bug. The Genius was so helpful and well educated that after one hour
without results, after several procedures he was really sorry to be unable to
fix it. He suggested to escalate the issue to the accessibility department,
from where I was referred… After testing the issue with Bluetooth ear phones,
that did not trigger the problem, he reinforced their conviction that was
something to do with the lightning plug. He was really embarrassed once that
didn’t make sense, because the bug was just triggered by voiceover and appeared
after a bloody update.

This morning I manage to put the phone in DFU mode, after a full restore I used
a backup from my iPhone 7. The bug was gone!! I then decided to put it back
with my full backup from the iPhone 8 and the bug returned! So know it is fine
after a DFU again and using the backup from iPhone 7. I am planning to try to
contact the extremely friendly Genius to let him know the solution.

This summer we began a partnership with Apple.  Right now they are offering
Technical Support Adviser jobs in Sacramento, CA and Austin, TX.  We are
taking the unprecedented step of sending this out to everyone on NFBNET in
order to assure that the largest number of blind persons possible apply to
these jobs.  One of my selling points to Apple was that most blind people have
iPhones and other i-devices and have become experts in using them.  I would

than sighted ones.  If you agree and have the skills Apple needs, please

thing to say about the DVD player on the Mac Hopeless! I’d have better luck
trying to play a DVD with my toaster. Sorry, that was more than one thing.

Petrus,
To play a dvd, you need to select a title from the go->title menu.
DVD menus are not accessible.
Also, note that VLC can not play copy protected media on its own. You would
have to download and install a couple of libraries first.

Hi all,
One thing I haven’t managed to work out is how to play DVD’s on my Mac. I plug
my external DVD player in and put the DVD in it but can never seem to find the
controls to press play. Well sometimes they appear but I can’t seem to activate
them. Does the brand of DVD player matter? I think my one is called Transned or
something like that, I was trying to use Seeing AI to read the brand name.
Suppose I should have gotten the Apple DVD player? I do have an old DVD player
connected to my TV but I don’t get any kind of voice feedback in the menus for
turning on the audio description so thought I could try the Mac.

Hi,

Probably not. You'd just need a work visa and such as well as being able to
move to the US to do the job.

I would

Hi Petrus,

No spot light is your command and space bar at the same time to get the

Note that spotlight will search everything both on your computer,
On the net,
In any files that might have the word dvd player in them.
You name it.

Good luck.

Sorry, this is going to be my last email on this subject, but I have only one
thing to say about the DVD player on the Mac Hopeless! I’d have better luck
trying to play a DVD with my toaster. Sorry, that was more than one thing.

 DVD menus are not accessible.
Also, note that VLC can not play copy protected media on its own. You

 Hi all,
One thing I haven’t managed to work out is how to play DVD’s on my
Mac. I plug my external DVD player in and put the DVD in it but can
never seem to find the controls to press play. Well sometimes they
appear but I can’t seem to activate them. Does the brand of DVD player
matter? I think my one is called Transned or something like that, I
was trying to use Seeing AI to read the brand name. Suppose I should
have gotten the Apple DVD player? I do have an old DVD player
connected to my TV but I don’t get any kind of voice feedback in the
menus for turning on the audio description so thought I could try the
 Mac.

Re: Playing DVD's on the Mac

Never mind, it’s all sounding to hard now. So is that go title menu or whatever
you said in the DVD player? I still have to work out how to do a spotlight
search.

Hello,
I was wrong in the message. It says the OS cannot scan it for malicious

Re: Playing DVD's on the Mac

2019-11-06 Thread Barry Hadder
Petrus,
To play a dvd, you need to select a title from the go->title menu.
DVD menus are not accessible.
Also, note that VLC can not play copy protected media on its own. You would
have to download and install a couple of libraries first.

Re: Playing DVD's on the Mac

2019-11-06 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Another silly question, as I’ve never had to do a spotlight search on the Mac
before. How does one do this? I’m hoping that if I open the DVD player before I
put the disc in it might work better for me. As the DVD player usually opens
automatically when you insert a disc.

Hi,

That would be an issue with your virus scanner, not the MacOS. You'll need to
check in your settings for the virus scanner to remedy this.

Re: Playing DVD's on the Mac

2019-11-06 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Hmmm. Sounds like it's more of a direction thing. All newer Macs do not have
the optical drive, so placing the DVD Player into the Core Services location
seemed logical. The functionality is still required, but just needs to be an
auto-magic thing, not something that people need to have in their Applications
folder.

 Hi all,
One thing I haven’t managed to work out is how to play DVD’s on my
Mac. I plug my external DVD player in and put the DVD in it but can
never seem to find the controls to press play. Well sometimes they
appear but I can’t seem to activate them. Does the brand of DVD
player matter? I think my one is called Transned or something like
that, I was trying to use Seeing AI to read the brand name. Suppose I
should have gotten the Apple DVD player? I do have an old DVD player
connected to my TV but I don’t get any kind of voice feedback in the
menus for turning on the audio description so thought I could try the
 Mac.

Hi all,
One thing I haven’t managed to work out is how to play DVD’s on my
I do have an old DVD  player
connected to my TV but I don’t get any kind of voice feedback in the
menus for turning on the audio description so thought I could try the
Mac.

Hi,

Looks like they've made it more of a system app than before. Probably due to
the fact that there's no longer built-in optical drives. Sorry for the
misleading info.

Re: Coming Back to Android

2019-11-06 Thread Erik Burggraaf

Greetings,

On November 5, 2019 10:03:41 p.m. Holly wrote:

1. What do you do productivity wise with your Android device?

I used my moto G phone in place of a computer for nearly a year. Obviously
I did email, some high leverage web browsing such as filing my taxes online
and filling out job applications, and advanced word and data processing.

I also did web programming in html, css, java script, and php with code
editors, file transfers with ftp, maths, and so on. I had at various
times, accessible third party project management tools, accounting
packages, and receipt trackers for small business. And of course, a lot of
cloud services like google drive, one and dropbox.

2. What are some good resources, such as podcasts, that I could use to
learn more about apps and TalkBack itself?

Inclusiveandroid.com doesn't get updated as often as we'd like, but just
launched a new podcast. You can help by reviewing your device and any apps
you find. The app directory with accessibility ratings is our best feature.

3. What areas of Android are really inaccessible?

None. There are numerous minor enhancements I would like to see, such as
ability to add web elements to the granularities menue, but the system
itself works well in all respects. That's not to say you won't experience
a learning curve.

4. What, in your opinion, are the most serious bugs in TalkBack?

I don't experience any stability or performance issues in talkback.
Importing and exporting graphics label files was broken at one point. I'm
not sure if it still is, but that would be the biggest non working thing I
can think of. Brailleback is a bit of a different story.

5. What are some accessible games for Android?

Check inclusive android's game section.
Thanks so much in advance.

On a parting note, I noticed a few of your questions tended to a rather
dark bbent. I'd just like to emphasize some real plus points in talkback.

Gestures are initially very simple and highly configureable.
The selection of speech synthesizers available is outstanding as the speech
API is available system wide. I'm currently using acapella tracy for example.

Talkback does a good job handling maths and describing format elements on
request.

How secure is iCloud drive?

2019-11-06 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am looking for a safe place to store a highly sensitive short txt file away
from my kit and my house. Is iCloud drive a good place? Are the contents of the
iCloud drive encrypted? Are iCloud drive files encrypted end to end while on
their journey through the network between my iMac and the iCloud drive server?
Many thanks.

Re: Screen waking up with earphones connected

2019-11-06 Thread João de Sousa e Silva
Yesterday my wife and I spent the evening in an Apple Store trying to
fix this annoying bug. The Geniuswas so helpful and well educated that
after one hour without results, after several procedures he was really
sorry to be unable to fix it. He suggested to escalate the issue to the
accessibility department, from where I was referred… After testing the
issue with Bluetooth ear phones, that did not trigger the problem, he
reinforced their conviction that was something to do with the lightning
plug. He was really embarrassed once that didn’t make sense, because the
bug was just triggered by voiceover and appeared after a bloody update.

This morning I manage to put the phone in DFU mode, after a full restore
I used a backup from my iPhone 7. The bug was gone!! I then decided to
put it back with my full backup from the iPhone 8 and the bug returned!
So know it is fine after a DFU again and using the backup from iPhone 7.
I am planning to try to contact the extremely friendly Genius to let him
know the solution.

I have an iPhone 8 updated that when I am using the earphones the screen
wakes-up right after locking. The iPhone 7 doesn’t have such a problem. It is
impossible to use the iPhone 8 to listen something once Voiceover is always
saying the hours.

Anyone else?

Re: How to change the boys on my brand-new Apple watch?

2019-11-06 Thread João de Sousa e Silva
You can try in the Watch App, on iOS: general; language and region;
custom. Set it there and then you may have to wait for some download
that just happens while the watch is charging . Good luck.

Subject: [Nfbnet-members-list] Apple Technical Support Advisor Job Links

Dear NFB List Members,

This summer we began a partnership with Apple.  Right now they are offering
Technical Support Adviser jobs in Sacramento, CA and Austin, TX.  We are
taking the unprecedented step of sending this out to everyone on NFBNET in
order to assure that the largest number of blind persons possible apply to
these jobs.  One of my selling points to Apple was that most blind people have
iPhones and other i-devices and have become experts in using them.  I would
venture to say that this is one career in which blind people can perform better
than sighted ones.  If you agree and have the skills Apple needs, please
apply.  After you apply, please email (Ms.) Shay Shimizu, Apple Talent
Sourcer, so she can make sure you are in the system and stay in touch with you
(and me). Apple really wants to hire blind people.

Best wishes,
