RE: Is there anybody out there?

2019-11-12 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Sorry Tim,

What’s 4am?

I’ve got a current habit of not sleeping a lot therefore lots of coffee and and
energy drinks make the day somewhat livable

Oh well may be this weekend I’ll sleep for a few days.

Re: How to Temporarily Switch Out of Spell Check

2019-11-12 Thread Jonathan Cohn
So the bug is that if a message is being auto-spell checked, if it becomes the
frontmost window (focused) then the assumption is that spell check is finished
and the message should be sent. Even if the spell check window is still open.
You can review the message by turning off cursor tracking and then switching
the VO cursor to the message window. As long as you don’t close the spell
checker and don’t cause the message window to be in front of the spellchecker I
believe the message will not send. Probably best to remember to spell check
before clicking send. BTW, I believe this bug has been around for at least 8
years, because I have had this option turned off in Macintosh mail even though
I have it turned on in Outlook as one of the first things I do.
Another option would be to look at Outlook or another Mail client.
I hope this message was clear enough, and my apologies for all the replies.

Re: How to Temporarily Switch Out of Spell Check

2019-11-12 Thread Jonathan Cohn
OK, there is a bit of a bug there. I tried a second time with the message to
you and it got sent after I did a window list and activated the window with the
message. You might be able to get this to behave by first turning off cursor
tracking, so that when the VO cursor moves into the message window it doesn’t
pull the focus with it. I’ll go ahead and OK I think you found a bug there.
misspell and see if I can get that to work with this message.

David,
Pressing the command-semicolon stroke twice when I have check spelling set to
when I send a message caused me to get back into the message. I would have
expected to only tneed to type it once, but it did indeed work for me.

Re: How to set Font Size in Text Edit?

2019-11-12 Thread Barry Hadder
Another way that I just found is to make selected text smaller or larger with
command-- or command-+ respectively.

I believe Tim was referring to the show font dialog with command-t.
So, there you have it. You can forget about the mouse all together.

Re: Fan runs on hi speed when Installed catalina.

2019-11-12 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I highly doubt that re-installing the OS would do anything. If it has been less
than a couple of hours since your install I would logout and let your computer
sit with login prompt for a bit. MacOS does have some utility work to do after
the upgrade. Otherwise, see if you can give a more specific process name.

Donna,
Just to be sure, these are rtf or doc or docx files and not plain text ones?
Hope you are well.

Hi Donna,

I am able to do this if I rout the mouse to vo and either click the combobox or
click a value in the list.
Did you rout the mouse to vo before you tried clicking with the track pad?

Another possibility for people who don't have the search is to try forcing the

In the customize toolbar dialog, move to the default set of toolbar items image

Re: Fan runs on hi speed when Installed catalina.

2019-11-12 Thread 'Dan Eickmeier' via MacVisionaries
Hi Anders, I found the same thing with my MacBook air too initially. I’d
turned on voice control, just to check it out, and see if i had much use for
it, or could use it with VO, and I found that the dictation process, was like
eating up have my CPU. switching off voice control did the trick. the fan
slowed right down. Not sure if you’ve got that, or some aspect of dictation
enabled, but if you do, you might try turning that off, and see if that calms
things down.

Fan runs on hi speed when Installed catalina.

2019-11-12 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
After i upgraded to Catalina my fan on my Macbook air has become very active
even when its not needed.
SO i checked with the activity control and VoiceoVer takes 56% of processor
usage.
There’s also a service called something like accessibilityview that takes up
55% of processor usage.
So i decided to reset the pram in order to stop this.
BUt it seems that it doesn’t help.
Are there some things i can do before i decide to reinstall the OS?
I don’t know why this behaviour occures but it does.
Thanks in advance.

I used to do that, too, but I don't get that field any more. All I get is the

TIA,

Jonathan,
When I Cmd+Shift+D to send an email message, it will come up if there is an
error. I can’t figure out how to go back to the original email message to find
that word in the sentence. Is there any keystroke that would read the current
line where the misspelled word is located?

i’m sending an email, and the Spelling dialog pops up with a spelling

How to set Font Size in Text Edit?

2019-11-12 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I've been having trouble changing the font size in Text Edit documents. I
select the text, click on the font size, select the size I want from the list.
Then I hear VO say Confirm, but there doesn't seem to be anything to click on.
I hear the VO thunk when I press Enter, Spacebar, or try and click on the
Trackpad. Nothing seems to make the font selection stick. Can anyone tell me
how to do this?
TIA,
Donna
