He is using the UNICODE Braille characters.

Above I should have spelled simon in Unicode Braille. If you read by character,
VOiceOver will read all the dots in each cell. Forgive me for forgetting the
initial dot-6. In NVDA and JAWS, these characters are currently ignored by
speech, but are displayed on a Braille display. VoiceOver should also be
showing the cells. This is quite useful on webpages, where you don't want

How would a braille device get on with the Unicode braille text being shown on

Jonathan,

I think he said it was braille text / dots within a web page but wished to be

I wondered if there was a way to instruct the screen reader to mute from within

a braille device.
Question:
How would a braille device get on with the Unicode braille text being shown on

Hi Mark.

The printer sounds great. But my printer is not broken. I could get rid of it
but don’t have any packaging to sell it so will have to continue with the one I
got. I wish it was broken then I could buy the one that you have now!

Re: Using a Focus braille display with Mac and IOS?

2020-01-08 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
I have similar settings here, and the braille display works well with
VoiceOver, including Grade II text entry. However, I almost always use the
qwerty keyboard.

Hi all,

I am replying to this e-mail using an original Focus 40 Blue display. As
you can see, I am typing just fine. I can press Chord D and that deletes the
last character I typed. I’ve not tried other Chord commands as yet because I am
more used to a regular keyboard, but if one works I’d be others would as well.
For what it might be worth, my VO Braille settings are set to English US
output, allow contracted Braille is unchecked, use 8-dot Braille is checked,
and use automatic Braille translation is unchecked. I’m discovering that if you
alter even one of the above settings, that can make a difference for what works
and does not. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Re: Is there a way to disable Voiceover announcement of braille pattern dots for braille Unicode?

2020-01-08 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I have never seen a way to do this. Though I have not tried changing verbosity,
as I find this useful to know I should go to my BRL display. Also, if you
navigate by character, you can read the individual cells stating exactly which
dots are raised. What is your application?

There is a cache that can be reset to resolve issues with Open With dialogs. I

Guys,
I almost never post here. I’ve just noticed that one of the mailing lists to
which I subscribe is having its posts always sent to the Junk box in Mac aMail.
I have no idea why. I’ve been a member of this list for years and this
behavior seems to have just started within the last week. I’ve tried
correcting it through both the Gmail web interface and Mac Mail without
success. No idea what to do.
Sorry if I’m not giving you enough information.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

RE: Can't Access My Network Drive From Windows On VMWare Fusion

2020-01-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi pete,

Yeah normally easy,

Do you have the device name on your network?
Or the ip address it's using in the case of the my cloud device?

If you have sharing set on the drive then try opening the run dialogue box and
type in the name of the device or ip and then hit enter.

You can also do this through explorer (Windows explorer using the address bar,

Then once you have the drive show, right click and go to the mapp drive

Hope that makes sense.

Hi,

I have a 2TB WDMyCloud drive connected to my Mac over a network, and it shows
up just fine via Finder both on my Mac and my wife's. However, when I start my
Windows virtual machine, the drive cannot be found, so I can’t map it. I
currently have my VM network settings configured to share with my Mac, and I
know there are a number of other options. Is anyone out there able to connect
to a network drive from a Windows virtual machine? If so, what settings are you
using?

Thanks so much,

Hello E.T.,

Yes, $108.00 includes a toner cartridge. The cartridge is stored inside the
printer, when shipped. It is not installed, but merely stored.

Never used a laser before so Tim clued me n on that.

On Amazon there are two options. One is the printer, the other includes a
cartridge, that then is about $160. Did you get a cartridge for $108?

Hi,

Laser printers tend to last almost forever with low use.  The toner is a

three years ago.  I use it on my home network both on my various Macs

In order to use this printer, as an AirPrint, printer, you must
download the

free HP Smart app, once.  You use the app to configure the printer for use
on your network.  This is to say, the app facilitates the ability to enter
your network password, etc.  As I said, you only need to do this once as,
once done, all Apple devices can see the printer on the network and
you may

immediately.  Of course, this is my experience, your milage may vary.
From what I can tell, most of the negative reviews about the unit, on
Amazon, come from Windows users.
To be clear, you do not need to install any HP software on any of your
Apple

devices in order to use the printer, save the HP Smart app, on one device,
to configure the unit.  For you more advanced users, the printer has
its own

web server so you can log directly into the unit via a web browser, should
you wish.
Although the unit ships with a USB cable, for use with Apple devices,
it is

not necessary.
Now, in full disclosure, I have not used the printer with a Windows
device.

From what I can tell, the process of configuring the unit is more
complicated on Windows but I cannot speak to that.
The printer costs approximately $110.00 USD.
As for unpacking the unit, it would probably be best to have a sighted
person handy as un-taping the various parts could be challenging for an
inexperienced user.  The only assembly is to unpack the toner
cartridge and

preparing it for installation.
There are only 3 hardware buttons on the unit that are flush with the
surface but one can certainly put tape on them to mark their location.
Also, the unit makes a definite sound when plugged into the wall so there
can be no doubt as to when the unit is powered up.
Okay, here is the URL for the printer on Amazon.

Re: Here is a Very Good AirPrint Laser Printer that I am Now Recommending

2020-01-08 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Laser printers tend to last almost forever with low use. The toner is a
powder, not a liquid like ink jet printers. I have a Lexmark CS410 series
laser printer and I'm still on the original toner from about three years ago.
I use it on my home network both on my various Macs and through AirPrint for
iPad and iPhone. HP are also great printers and you would have good luck with
it.

From what I can tell, most of the negative reviews about the unit, on

To be clear, you do not need to install any HP software on any of your Apple

Here is a Very Good AirPrint Laser Printer that I am Now Recommending

2020-01-08 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I purchased the HP LaserJet Pro M15w Wireless Laser Printer (W2G51A) from
Amazon and I absolutely love it.

It has all of the features I require including the ability to insert
standard mailing envelopes into the sheet feeder as a custom slot.

In order to use this printer, as an AirPrint, printer, you must download the
free HP Smart app, once. You use the app to configure the printer for use
on your network. This is to say, the app facilitates the ability to enter
your network password, etc. As I said, you only need to do this once as,
once done, all Apple devices can see the printer on the network and you may
print to your heart's content. The app is 100% VoiceOver accessible.

The printer is the tiniest laser printer I've ever seen. It uses a
mini-toner cartridge so it's perfect as a portable laser printer.

Oh, this is not a color laser.

Even when printing photos, it takes less than 10 seconds for the unit to
start printing. When printing documents, the unit begins printing almost
immediately. Of course, this is my experience, your milage may vary.

>From what I can tell, most of the negative reviews about the unit, on

To be clear, you do not need to install any HP software on any of your Apple
devices in order to use the printer, save the HP Smart app, on one device,
to configure the unit. For you more advanced users, the printer has its own
web server so you can log directly into the unit via a web browser, should
you wish.

not necessary.

Now, in full disclosure, I have not used the printer with a Windows device.

The only assembly is to unpack the toner cartridge and
preparing it for installation.

K, same here. Many of my MacVisionaries messages go to my bulk mail

RE: iClever bluetooth keyboard

2020-01-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Andrew,

I could well be wrong here but I don't think so.

So I've just unpaired my bk03 keyboard like yours from both my iphone 11 pro
max and my ipad mini 5,

So it was paired to both.

I then switched off bt on my iPhone and pair the keyboard to my ipad,

Worked great once connected no issues at all.

Then I switched Bluetooth on my iPad off and on again on my iPhone,
And then paired the board with the phone and it works great,

Then turning bt on the ipad back on it says the keyboard is not able to be
connected again and I'd have to forget it and repair the two devices.

Anyway further investigation from the URL page here
https://www.iclever.com/products/BK03-Bluetooth-Portable-Keyboard

seems to me to show that the keyboard can pair to 3 different devices so long
as they are
an IOS related device as we've tried,
then use fn plus e key to get Ios devices,

Fn plus w gets the windows device,

And Fn plus q gets the android device
Paired to the keyboard.

I'm starting to think here that the board is smart enough to know that there is
more than one Ios device connected but isn't smart enough to make it or put it
under one of the other switching combos

But if you have paired an android windows and ios devices then it knows which
is which and can switch between them.

Please prove me wrong here as I'm also tring to have more than one IOS devices
off this one board.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Mine is also BK03 although it is bifold only. Are there any particular key
combination I need to press to pair it with different devices and then to
connect to a chosen one?
