Re: Zoom Meetings

2020-06-11 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
I also generally get away with letting my screen reader chatter on my
Bose Q700. It's testimony to it's noise cancellation which phones have
to try and improve voice pickup and minimize environmental sounds for
any user. If there are lots of mics on the headset, the noise
cancellation can be quite excellent.

However, it doesn't always work. Some people have better hearing and
will hear that screen reader, or hear your typing as you click keys.
Some of these people won't care, but others can be very bothered by such
stuff.

Moral of the story: I prefer a headset that has mute/unmute right on the
headset in a form that confirms whether or not I'm muted. This can be
very important should you choose to go for a walk down the hall while
listening to your teleconference on your BT headset. Remember about that
Supreme Court hearing the other month in the U.S. where somebody forgot
about that part? It made national "hah hah good joke" news for a couple
days in the U.S. last month.

Best,

Janina

Re: iPhone SE 2nd Gen

2020-06-11 Thread Gabe Griffith
Hi all,

I moved from a 7 to the new SE. At least to this point it has been a very
positive experience for me. Since I had the 7 and not the plus I was even able
to keep my same phone case. :) I especially like the fact that my bluetooth now
works and I can connect new devices. I would say that the main thing you’re
probably going to notice going from a plus to the SE is the physical size of
the phone.

It finished the dl and then required you to hit install an that is

Hope that makes sense.

Hi all,
I’m a little curious as to IOS updates. Yesterday I updated too
13.5.1 on both my wife’s phone an my own. I did mine in the morning.
I opened the General settings on my phone and selected software
update and tapped on Download and install. Entered my pass code to
verify the update request and let it do its thing. Once it was done I
entered my pass code again and it was all done. I did my wife’s phone
last night and did the same thing, once I tapped on download and
install and entered her pass code it started downloading. I fell
asleep and woke up about an hour later so I checked it. I had to
unlock the phone with the pass code again and it was waiting for me
to tap the install now button. My phone completed the entire process
without me having to tap the install now   button but my wife’s phone
took two steps. We both have an 8+ with the same memory and the same
age. We got them together at the same time. So why would my one
complete the download and install from start to finish and her one
asking to install now after downloading it?

Just curious.

If I'm looking at a page of content in an app such as youtube, after

I know I need to somehow activate this to see more content, I have tried
interacting with it when it says something like, scrollbar 100% and moving
the slider but I still cannot see any more content I know it's there.
 Am I missing something?
 It is really annoying me.

Re: IOS vertical scrollbars with voiceover

2020-06-11 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Once you find the scroll bar you can flick up or down with one finger to adjust
the percentage value, this should work on the vertical scroll bars or the
horizontal scroll bars. See if that helps?

IOS vertical scrollbars with voiceover

2020-06-11 Thread Michael Marshall
hey all,
Running into a very interesting situation and I don't quite know how to solve
it.
If I'm looking at a page of content in an app such as youtube, after awhile I
come to a vertical scroll bar.
I know I need to somehow activate this to see more content, I have tried
interacting with it when it says something like, scrollbar 100% and moving the
slider but I still cannot see any more content I know it's there.
Am I missing something?
It is really annoying me.

Re: IOS updates

2020-06-11 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Yes, I got what your saying but I don’t think that is it. I definitely had to
double tap on the download and install button the same as my wife. And if it
had already been downloaded I would have heard VoiceOver say “One new item”
when I selected my settings. I thought about it and maybe my wife has her auto
lock set at a shorter time then me. I have mine set at 5 minutes so I’m
guessing that my screen wasn’t locked once the download completed and it
started the installation. My wife might have her auto lock set at 2 minutes or
something so I might check that tonight when she’s home.

Fission? Specifically, I would like to learn to select portions of an audio
file to delete. The help file really isn't to elaborate in terms of using it
with voiceover. Any help or tips are greatly appreciated.

Hi petrus,

Chances are that your phone had downloaded the update to it’s cache and when
you hit install and entered your pin it started installing.

As for your wife,
I’d think that was a you had to download the IOs version which required the pin
but then while it was downloading and you fell asleep
It finished the dl and then required you to hit install an that is when you got

Hope that makes sense.

Subject: IOS updates

Hi all,
I’m a little curious as to IOS updates. Yesterday I updated too 13.5.1 on both
my wife’s phone an my own. I did mine in the morning. I opened the General
settings on my phone and selected software update and tapped on Download and
install. Entered my pass code to verify the update request and let it do its
thing. Once it was done I entered my pass code again and it was all done. I did
my wife’s phone last night and did the same thing, once I tapped on download
and install and entered her pass code it started downloading. I fell asleep and
woke up about an hour later so I checked it. I had to unlock the phone with the
pass code again and it was waiting for me to tap the install now button. My
phone completed the entire process without me having to tap the install now
button but my wife’s phone took two steps. We both have an 8+ with the same
memory and the same age. We got them together at the same time. So why would my
one complete the download and install from start to finish and her one asking
to install now after downloading it?
Just curious.

RE: Zoom Meetings

2020-06-11 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Says who?

My work colleagues couldn't hear my voiceover or jaws when using zoom with out
headphones.

No matter what platform you use, you should always use headphones or a headset.
Forcing others on the call to hear your screen reader is just inconsiderate.

Hi,

I think in many ways it depends what you want to do etc if you are the meeting
host then the Mac version gives more control and features so you might want
that - the IPAd or phone versions are simpler interfaces. There is the issue
that voiceover can be heard but I have asked others on the call and they say it
is not really much much of a problem - one way to reduce this is to mute your
mike and then use the space bar to temporarily unmute when you want to speak -
you need to ensure this feature is enabled in settings but once you have done
this it really is a good thing.

If you let us know what kinds of things you want to do maybe more advice can be
offered - Tim Paul joy and I did a couple of practice zooms so we could help
one another out and that was really useful - happy to do that again if people
want it - although we do need to navigate time zones
