Re: Endding the RE: article on Firefox accessibility on the mac

2020-07-01 Thread Brad Snyder
I completely agree. I can’t believe the moderator has been silent and allowed
this crap to go on.
Unlike a Groups.io email list, I am not aware of a way to
mute a topic.
It appears that the only way to deal with this is to unsubscribe from the list.

2020-07-01 Thread Julie Rattray
I am sorry that Simon’s well crafted message did not put an end to this and sad
to see that we have now lost two members publicly and possibly more behind the
scenes.

I will not re-itterate the arguments that have already been made about the
inappropriateness of this thread but would like to just say that despite
several requests to end it which may have allowed us to move on it has
continued. I now feel that I have no choice but also to remove myself from the
list - I had hoped that the list moderators would have stepped in and put an
end to this but as they have not I feel like others I can no longer be part of
this group which if, even in small part, by lack of action is supporting hugely
inappropriate and offensive behaviour.

Re: article on Firefox accessibility on the mac

2020-07-01 Thread 'Sabahattin Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
macOS Braille support is already generally poor, but it is very noticeable in
Safari where scrolling/panning behaviour is completely broken.

Alternatives are Chromium-based browsers, but those aren't immune from ceisures
either; use a Windows screen reader for the smoothest experience across the
board, sorry to say. You can avoid it for a long time by employing content
blockers to strip out much of the crud before it even loads in Safari, but it
means work for you when you need full access to a site so I don't recommend it
to "novice" users. But it hardly changes the reality that you'll have a Windows
VM on standby, or access to a Windows system, for some unavoidable web and
other tasks. This has always struck me as disappointing given iOS doesn't seem
to have quite the same nonsense going on and it seems to have got worse in
recent versions of macOS.

Interesting I find that Braille support in Firefox with web pages to not be as
useful as JAWS. I don't have a lot of issues with Braille and Safari, though I
don't use Safari for testing systems at work, and I don't use Braille for
pleasure, so I don't use Safari with Braille very often.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

SO DOES THE ROTOR BRING UP NOTHING IN ANY CATEGORY, OR NOTHING AT all or is
every list in it blank? Also, is this the production or beta?

Re: Outlook for Mac Exhange Server Archives

2020-07-01 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
Macintosh Mail, Contacts Notes calendars and reminders can all sync to some
level with Microsoft 365 exchange servers. I believe they also work with older
Exchange servers. So for my work Macintosh, I use Outlook for interaction, but
also went into Internet accounts and set up an Exchange account that receives
Contacts, Calendars and Reminders. This way I get the superior notifications
from the Macintosh application and also can use the Microsoft platform for
changing items hopefully avoiding some of the situation where Macs did not
quite meet the exchange protocols.
HTH!
Jonathan

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

hey,
Still using Safari, it's not so bad that you can’t use it but i just feel that

RE: Microsoft outlook on the Mac

2020-07-01 Thread hermanfermin
Please share this feedback with Microsoft Outlook. The auto-completion works
fine in Apple Mail and in Spotlight. Although accessibility for Outlook on the
Mac has come a long way, this is one particular area where it is really
lacking. Especially when as a keyboard only user, you do not have to jump to a
completely different window in order to get to your choices/options to fill in.
A keyboard only user just arrows up and down to get those choices and hits
enter on the one that is desired.

That would be a fab script if you could make it happen I have just started
using outlook as it is useful to schedule teams meetings where you are inviting
others as it puts the link straight in to the invite but it is a little clunky
to keep switching windows when adding multiple recipients to messages etc

2020-07-01 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
I just got mine not to long ago. I have the tenth gen I5 with 16 gigs of ram
and a 1 tb hard rive. So far it is working well. The Touch Bar is not hard to
use. I have not found much use for it though. Most of what I used function keys
for I can do with key commands. For example using VO plus the plus or minus
keys to raise and lower volume. Also if you use VO plus function plus one of
the number row keys you can activate most VO functions. For example VO plus
function plus the number row one brings up the application chooser.

Re: article on Firefox accessibility on the mac

2020-07-01 Thread Michael Marshall
Hey, must disagree on Safari.
In my personal experience, I think Safari Accessibility has actually dropped
significantly in recent operating systems.
It will be interesting to see what it is like in the upcoming system.

Hi!
VoiceOver is quite intuitive when you get used to it.
The only good about jaws is the braille support.
Here VoiceOver still has a lot to come up with.
The best screenReader for firefox though is on windows NVDA and on Linux i
guess there’s only ORCA.
I don’t know if the project Clifox exist anymore.

Re: Endding the RE: article on Firefox accessibility on the mac

2020-07-01 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries
As bind / low vision people, we all have encountered discrinination.
And we have all fought against it.

Why is it that some practice discrimination against other human
beings who themselves have been repressed for centuries? Now they are
fighting against discrimination. What makes white folk think they are
superior over people of color? I could go on but it's pointless for some
are so entrenched in tehir thinking it would take a sledgehammer to
change it.

Human beings we all are, and we all share a common ancester which
started in east Africa.

Re: article on Firefox accessibility on the mac

2020-07-01 Thread 'Sabahattin Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
I think it was always the lack of a portable API for toolkit vendors to
program. I’m sorry that Apple never did that; it’s clearly been an impediment
not otherwise necessary to overcome on other platforms. It’s not always
possible to subclass or overload, so you need to handle accessibility events
directly and that means you have to talk to the Objective-C runtime and hence
carry a lot of very specific code to implement accessibility properly. Not
impossible but much more work so it doesn’t happen as often, or at all,
compared to other more portable binary-compatible interfaces that’ll get
implemented in portable programming languages.

RE: Microsoft outlook on the Mac

2020-07-01 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Petrus,

I can’t honestly say,

I’ve only ever hit enter as a hang up from the windows world.

I assume it will ddo the same thing.

Hi Simon and Nancy,
I know with the native mail app one needs to press VO space bar once the
desired person comes up while your arrowing down the list of contacts after
typing the first couple of letters, pressing enter doesn’t work. Is this
different with Outlook?

Hi Nancy,

Sorry to hear about your sight situation,

Try typing the first characters of the person or address you are looking for in
to the to field and then arrow down,

It should list any / all contacts you have made contact with and once you find
the one you want, just hit enter.

Subject: Microsoft outlook on the Mac

hi everyone,
I have been partially sighted for the past several years. I have to switch to
complete voice over now because of a surgery I cannot see at all. I am using
voice over with Microsoft outlook on the Mac. When I type a name into the two
column, I can’t figure out how to get to the options. In other words if I type
an email to Doe and I want to click on John Doe, how do I do that using
voiceover? Also if anyone has a list of keyboard commands for Microsoft outlook
I would be very appreciative.
Thanks so much!
Nancy

Damn straight Chuck. You tell ‘em. Hey look, if leftists out here can defend
their positions, damn it, so can I. Look, I’m not trying to tell you what to
believe out here. That’s your business, but to tell me I’m out of line for
standing up for my positions: hell no!
