I know how to turn youtube videos into mp3's but then you'd probably have to
cut the sounds apart so they wouldn't be all in one file.

Mac classic sounds

2020-08-06 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi all,

In playing around with Mac sounds today, I remembered how to create and save my
own, but I came across some classic Mac sounds on the web. There is a site that
offers a download, but I have no idea if it is safe or easy. Lol!

Does anyone know of a way to get the old sounds. The youTube video was cool
listening to them. ;)

thanks, Scott, this is exactly what I needed. I've decided to go ahead and
place an order, and it sounds like I should also order the Executive Products
case.

Hi Scott,

Agree 100%. Not sure where he got the info about the U2, but yeah, it could
connect to other devices, though the keyboard didn't work as well as one would
wish.

Like I said, he's obviously new to AT, but I figured I'd share the review for
anyone who wants to read it. I'm sure yours will be much more comprehensive,. :)
Cheers,

I would think both the Mantis and the Chameleon would eventually
support NLS, given that Humanware is one of the companies contracted
out to provide the braille displays that will be distributed by NLS.

Problem with Live FaceBook Video and comments

2020-08-06 Thread 'Robert Cole' via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
I am having problems writing comments while watching a live video on FaceBook.
I’m using Safari on the Mac.
As the video is playing, If I use quick-Nav or use normal VO keys to move to
the comment field, it seems to mute the video.
If I move back up near the volume button, the sound automatically starts again.
But sometimes I have to press the volume button to get sound back.
This is very annoying.
I even turned off cursor tracking with no help.
I also turned off VoiceOver while the video was playing, and when I turned
VoiceOver back on, the video muted again.
Am I the only one with this issue?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Mantis Q40?

2020-08-06 Thread Scott Davert
Hi Donna.
Thanks for posting the review. I guess that gives the reader an
overview, but it fails to answer a lot of questions a more advanced
braille user would ask. Also, the Braille Sense u2 QWERTY could
connect to an iPhone or other external device, so his assertion that
it's the first QWERTY braille device to connect to external ones is
wrong. He has a good point about beginner users of braille using it.
There's a much less steep learning curve.

Hi Joe and Donna.
I have not received my case either. My understanding from talking to
Greg Stilson about this is that the case which ships with the Mantis
does not include a cover, but something that you can set the display
in while using it. It's not a carrying case. If you want to carry it
around, you would likely want the EP case. Sorry I do not have an
exact answer, I have not received mine yet.

Re: Mantis case

2020-08-06 Thread joseph hodge
I have seen the leather case sold by us from executive products, that is a real
sweet looking notetaker type of case. I have not gotten to see the Green nylon
case that comes with the product. Scott have you received yours yet? We were a
little late getting them due to the situation going on in the world! So when I
was doing quality control on the devices I did not get a chance to see them
unfortunately. My understanding is that it's more of a cover than a full on
case but I could be wrong.

Hi all.
I'm writing this with the Mantis, but I no longer have access to a
Mac, so I'm not able to report on that.
With iOS 13.6, it works quite well. The thing to remember is that you
are using a QWERTY keyboard with this set up, so many of the things
you may have learned about Perkins-style keyboards do not apply. What
does apply, though, are all of the good and bad things about running a
Bluetooth keyboard on iOS. You need to be familiar with how QuickNav
works, when to use it, and of course the VO modifier keys. I'm writing
from Windows currently, as I had to sell my Mac to help pay for my new
hearing aids.
One of the really neat things about the Mantis and Chameleon is the
built in Wifi which allows you to download Bookshare and NFB Newsline
content. Not only can you do that, but if you download daisy content
from Bookshare, you can navigate by heading level. NFB Newsline only
offers Daisy, but you can do the same with that service.

Just some info,
Scott

Latest Nearby Explorer Online

2020-08-06 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
To answer a couple of questions …

Plain Nearby Explorer is a premium paid App which includes special maps for
the USA andCanada and has some extra function not in Nearby Explorer Online.
Nearby Explorer Online is a free App which by default uses Apple Maps for its
map data. I thus presume that it will work where ever Apple maps are available.
It certainly works in the UK. I do not know for sure but I presume that plain
Nearby Explorer will work outside North America using Apple Maps for its map
data, but its extra functions may require the special North America map format
and may thus not work elsewhere. Does anyone know for sure?
One example of the extra function in plain Nearby Explorer is that holding the
iPhone vertically in front of you will list all the intersections in that
direction in addition to the compass bearing as in Nearby Explorer Online.
Best … Paul Hopewell

2020-08-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Scott,

thanks. It's been a while since I've seen a Braillenote, but that does suggest
that the braille is a little softer than I typically like. I've not seen an
Apex, so I don't know what those keys looked like.

In case you are anyone else is curious, here is the review that I read. It
seems like this reviewer is fairly new to adaptive tech, though, so I'm not
sure how similar their experience will be for those of us who've been at this a
while.

Re: Mantis Q40?

2020-08-06 Thread Scott Davert
Hi Donna.
If you have felt the braille of the BrailleNote Touch, or even the
Apex, Iwould equate the feel of the dots to one of those devices. I
was not aware that anyone else had reviewed the Mantis yet. My review
should be in the August issue of Access World.
As for the keys, I would equate those to the BrailleNote Apex QT. The
size is also similar. The keys aren't noisy, though, it sounds about
as loud to me as any laptop would. Then again, my ears are quite
broken, so I may not be the best judge of that.

HTH,
Scott

Re: Changing Time In A Music Track

2020-08-06 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I haven’t played with this in Catalina yet. In older versions, one could
interact with the slider, and then using up/down (perhaps with the VO modifier)
would adjust the amount of movement and left / right would adjust the value.
THe other thing to try would be the trackpad commander after you interact with
the slider, only the slider should be visible to the trackpad, so tapping the
middle of the trackpad should get you to the approximate middle of the track.
Please post back success or failure with these ideas.

Re: Mantis Q40?

2020-08-06 Thread Scott Davert

Just some info,
Scott

Re: Using Outlook on the Mac

2020-08-06 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Well, Outlook has become a bit of a bloated mess but when I was using Exchange
365 with my work account, there was a “new” view for outlook that I felt more
efficient in. Since my employment has changed and I am now using a private
exchange service this option was no longer available to me, and I switched to
mostly using Apple Mail again.
