The command is a toggle. Doing the command should switch between plain text
format and RTF format.
When changing to plain text, you should receive a dialog box warning that
converting to plain text will remove certain text attributes. This dialog
warning does not appear when converting to RTF.

Maybe somebody will have a better idea, but the only way I can think of is to
paste the text file into an RTF file. I looked into Save As, but all that does
is allow you to choose various Text formats.

Re: Navigating by page/discovering page number in Voice Dream Reader?

2020-10-21 Thread Phil Halton
Not all EPUB books have that information. They can be very very plain, or very
highly stylized depending on the author. Some books have chapters and headings
and highlights and page numbers, others have some combination thereof or even
none of the above. It really does depend on the author. If your navigation
options don’t show page then that is an indication that this EPUB or whatever
format book does not have page information embedded.

Excellent instructions, I think I was missing the check box for manually
synching music, movies and TV shows.
Thank you.

I assume you are using MacOS Catalina. Before you start the syncing process,
put your ringtomes on your desktop. This way you have quick access to them.
Ringtones must be in the M4R format.

Once you have connected your iPhone and are ready to sync it, Select the
General tab and go to Manually Manage Music, Movies, and TV Shows. Check the
box.

Put the cursor on the ringtone and type VO, (Control-Option comma.) VoiceOver
will say that the item has been marked for drag. Move the cursor to the Sync
window for iPhone and anywhere in the window type VO . O(Control Option period.
Wait a few seconds for the ringtone to sync. It should then be on your phone.

Re: pages on a Mac

2020-10-21 Thread Brad Snyder
The fact that you indicated you didn’t have MS Word on your Mac, is another
reason I suggested that you use TextEdit.

You can convert a .txt file to MS Word format, using TextEdit as follows:
1. Use the Mac keyboard command CMD + Shift + T, to convert the file from
plain text format to RTF format.
2. Use the keyboard command CMD + OPT + Shift + S, to do a Save As, and select
either .doc or .docx from the list of available file formats in the dialog.

HTH.

2020-10-21 Thread Paul Sandoval
Hi list,

I'm hoping someone will be kind and give me instructions for copying ringtones
from my Mac to my iPhone.
Most things I find on Google say to drag and drop, and this usually gives me
difficulty.
I can get as far as locating the iPhone in the Finder Sidebar. I also have
General selected, but where do I paste the tones?
IOS 14.1 on an iPhone XR
MacOS 10.15.6 MacBook Air late 2013
I appreciate any advice you can give.
Thank you.

Re: pages on a Mac

2020-10-21 Thread Brad Snyder
Hi Chanelle,

I am not sure about the workaround for the Heading issue in TextEdit. As you
know, TextEdit is not nearly as full featured as MS Word. I recommended
TextEdit because the original poster was attempting to edit a .doc file she had
created on a braille notetaker. I recommended TextEdit because it would allow
her to open and edit, and then save the file, while maintaining the .doc
format, something that cannot be done when using Pages.
Yes, I know that a Pages file can be exported to one of the MS Word formats,
but since the file was already in .doc, I thought using TextEdit was the
simplest solution.

seems to strip links but retain bulleted lists, although tabs are used instead
of traditional formatting. I then converted the file to Doc using Microsoft
Word for Mac. The links and font changes are retained. I am not sure if the
list formatting is changed in the Doc version because there seems to be no
reliable method for obtaining text position information. VO-F5-F5 only goes so
far--especially when I can't get the mouse cursor to the exact location of the
VO cursor. A VoiceOver equivalent of the Jaws alt-delete would be extremely
helpful.
As a general question, since TextEdit does not have traditional heading styles,
is there a work around? I decided to use the copy style command and chose to
keep paragraph spacing, font, and ruler position when defining/saving a heading
level 1, so I will see if that works.

Re: pages on a Mac

2020-10-21 Thread Chanelle Allen
Hello,
I am a bit late to this conversation. My curiosity was piqued though, so I
decided to investigate. Oddly, opening a Docx file in TextEdit retained the
font type, style, and size for body text but not headings. The Docx file also
seems to strip links but retain bulleted lists, although tabs are used instead
of traditional formatting.

Re: Navigating by page/discovering page number in Voice Dream Reader?

2020-10-21 Thread 'Catherine Turner' via MacVisionaries
Hi Kerry, all,

H, what a puzzle. I updated to the latest version of Voice Dream
Reader just in case that was making a difference but still with this
epub book, no ability to move by page and no information about the
page I'm on. In the Navigation Units I have Bookmark, Highlight,
Heading, Paragraph, Sentence, 60 seconds, 30 seconds and 15 seconds
but no Page. And in the info about where I am, I just have a
percentage and what seem to be estimates of the amount of time already
read and that remaining.

I wonder if it's something about this particular book. Has anyone any
suggestions of sources of any epub books I could just try out to see
if they work better?

Also, has anyone any other suggestions as to how I could go about
reading an epub on the iphone, being able to copy/paste from the book
and realise which page I'm on for the sake of referencing in an
academic document? Perhaps I could try converting the epub to text
but I'm not sure whether that would retain the page numbering
information...

Thanks,
Catherine
