I’d send the speakers back to Amazon for a refund, and get something else.

Hi PPeet,

Here you,. Thees are usb speakers and are suposivly plug and play. You plug
in the usb end into the USB port of your machine which is how they get power
and then youplugin the 3.5 mm end into the jack for sound output. With that
here is the link.

Re: Apple Mail on Bigsur: where have All Archive, All Bin, and All Junk gone?

2020-11-15 Thread Jonathan Cohn
OK, I re-read this message. I don't know if there is still an all archives, but
Apple did merge the "Favorite" folders into the panel of folders rather than
having it as a separate panel. So at the top of the Mailbox list are your
favorite folders, then the "all XX" folder, then smart folders and finally
trees based on Mailboxes.
Hope this help!

I have reported some serious voice-over bugs in recovery partition to Apple on big sur

2020-11-15 Thread Michael Marshall
hey all,
I have found a couple of bugs whilst using recovery on big sur with voiceover
which I have reported to Apple and if any of you can find them, I would really
encourage you to do the same.
The first thing is the Wi-Fi problem, it has always been tricky but manageable,
now when you hit VO MM twice, there is absolutely no way to access those
options.
Also the tab key is useless in recovery with voice-over, if you want to go to
the continue button, you first have to select your options such as restore from
Time Machine backup using VO right and left and then VO right down to the
continue button.
The last and most serious from my standpoint is the continual crashing with
voice-over in both disk utility and the installation of the system from
recovery.
If you going to disk utility from recovery and try to go to the table to select
a disk or the toolbar, voice-over will just continuously crash.
The only way to fix it is to command Q out of disk utility and then restart
voice-over.
I have sent feedback through the assistant to Apple and I hope they take a look
at this before the next beta update.

Re: Column view in Finder on Bigsur and the Tab key.

2020-11-15 Thread Jonathan Cohn
In all other versions of MacOS that supported column view, the left and right
arrow keys with no modifier would switch you to the next or previous column,
not really opening the folder, but moving focus into the column. I heard that
in Bigsir that tab and shift tab do this, which is not as convenient but might
be more logical.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Apple Mail on Bigsur: where have All Archive, All Bin, and All Junk gone?

2020-11-15 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
After upgrading from the latest Catalina to Bigsur I see that my prior mail
boxes All Archive, All Bin, and All Junk have disapperared. All these mail
boxes contained messages in Catalina.
If I archive a message in Bigsur it appears in the All Archive folder on my
iPhone running IOS 14.2 but there is still no All Archive mail box created on
Bigsur and I cannot find the archived message anywhere.
Please note that I have 3 different Email addresses all using iMap protocoal
and all using my Internet provider Mail server. All Inbox, All Sent, and All
Draft seem to be working OK on Bigsur.
Have any others encountered the above problem?
Many thanks for any tips … Paul Hopewell

Would you be willing to share the brand and model of your speakers? I’m
intrigued by you saying that the cord has a USB plug on one end and a 3.5-inch
plug on the other, and I’d like to learn more about the concept.

Hello,
If you are in column view, you can use VO plus left and right arrows to do the
same thing as just using the arrow keys used to do. This is a possible bug that
has been reported to apple.

Re: Time for a new Mac

2020-11-15 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
As I recall, running virtualized Linux instances on ARM-based Mac hardware has
been demonstrated publicly by Apple. Running Linux natively (i.e., without Mac
OS underneath it) isn't yet supported, and I don't know whether it will be, due
to the Apple-specific hardware involved.

My new mini has the i7 processor, with an excessive amount of RAM, and

While Apple has introduced a Mac mini with the M1 processor, they

If you have been happy with your previous mini, this could be a good

1, Big Sur is fine. Some have reported that dismissing notifications are hard,
but I haven’t ran into this issue. 2nd, you can send from alias’s just fine
from IOS, I have been doing it since IOS 10. What you have to do is, double
tap on the from field twice, the 1st time the VoiceOver cursor will jumpp back
to the to field, just swipe back to the from field, double tap on the from
address again, and then you will get a pop up of choices of email addresses to
send from. Also make sure that your alias is registered under your appleID as
a contact point, if not it may not appear in the list of send from emails. HTH

Column view in Finder on Bigsur and the Tab key.

2020-11-15 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Column view is my preferred Finder interface. In the past I used to use Right
Arrow to expand a folder and Left Arrow to colllapse a folder. This no longer
works in Bigsur.
However using Tab to expand a folder and Shift+Tab to collapse a folder works
fine. I recall this is how Windows works. I prefer the Right Arrow and Left
Arrow but can live with the Tab key approach.
Hope this helps others who have encountered this problem.
Best regards … Paul Hopewell

Hi Jonathan.

Thanks so much about your explanation with to Teams. I tried using it on the
Mac some time ago and didn’t like it. It’s better on the I phone but still
kind of horrible. I’ll keep your message.

I am not upgrading to Big Sur yet until it has got better. I use to upgrade
straight away but I think I’ll wait until people report that it’s a bit better
than before. I notice that on IOS you still can’t send emails if you use an
alias as I do if I am writing to lists.

2020-11-15 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,

I use it quite often. Generally, it prefers you use the Microsoft keyboard
shortcuts and not the VO ones.

It sounds like you are not logged into the teams interface. There might be
another window lurking around asking for your email and password. The Teams app
is essentially a customized version of Google Chrome, and in fact you should be
able to do everything in your web browser except perhaps getting notification
dings when a new message arrives.

Here is a quick guide to teams that should help you get started.
Command-1 Activity viewer (not very useful)
command-2 chats I spend most of my time here
Command-3 Teams list This is a tree view that you can use up/down to navigate
and return to open a list of channels in a team.
command-4 will bring up the outlook calendar if your teams is linked to
exchange.

The other major keystroke is command-shift-F to take you to the filter entry
field. Once you are there, you can either use arrow keys to review recent
history or type in a partial name and find matches in conversations.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: mac OS big sur: web navigation using arrow keys only

2020-11-15 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I haven't ben on a lot of sites since seeing this message, but I don't believe
this is the case. Some sites do put in keyboard handlers that forget to allow
default actions for keys they don't use perhaps you are running into that?
There is an option in the web area of VoiceOver utility to have arrow keys
always use the default VoiceOver method of going down a line in the web site.
If you find you are using this function more than VO navigation, then perhaps
you want to turn this on at least for a default activity. This would mean that
custom dropdown menus and date pickers where the web page developer used
javascript key handlers to better navigate that control will not work.
Take Care,
Jonathan Cohn

2020-11-15 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi All,

Another issue I found now is that I can't navigate web pages by simple arrow up

especially when it comes to tutorials, scientific articles or others.

is there some setting in the VO preferences which allow me to get this behavior
back?

Thanks,

mac OS big sur: why does it have to behave like I'm using an iPad

2020-11-15 Thread Yuma Decaux
Hi All,

I've noticed that a lot of the usual operations I perform on my mac are now
requiring extra steps.

one such instance is when I look for a particular email, I have to now go to
the toolbar, go to search, and press on search. This behaviour is probably good
for ipads, but now it adds extra steps to the whole experience.

Using a mac is supposed to help streamline things, now it's taking longer.

I've noticed that now navigating the directory to save a file from mail or
safari or any other application is now not straight forward anymore.

I tried going through column list etc, but it doesn't behave as expected.

Also, I can't create new folders and rename it directly upon creation. Does
anyone have this issue?

Option key problem solved!

2020-11-15 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Just to wrap up this thread, I got the option key issue sorted out. Somehow,
and I have no idea how, the keyboard input got switched to Unicode Hex. I
switched it back to US, and now the option key is working as it should. Phew!

Thanks to all of you who tried to help with this.
Cheers,
Donna
