Re: Transfering music from iPhone to Mac laptop

2020-12-12 Thread Brad Snyder
If what you want to do is add new content to your Music library on your Mac, do
the following:
1. Open your Home folder using CMD + Shift + H.
2. Navigate to Music > iTunes > iTunes Media.
3. In this folder, you will find a folder called Automatically Add to Music.
this is where you should copy items that you want to add to your Music library.
The next time you open the Music app on your Mac, the contents of this folder
will be added to your library.
Note: Since you upgraded your Mac from an earlier version of macOS, you will
also have a folder called Automatically Add to iTunes. This folder is left
over from the earlier version of the macOS, and should not be used since iTunes
has been replaced by the Music app in Catalina.

HTH.

Re: Transfering music from iPhone to Mac laptop

2020-12-12 Thread Jeff Berwick
If you go to your Home folder on your Mac, there is a folder called “Music.”
Inside that folder, is another folder called “music” and inside that is one
called “Media.” Inside the media folder is one called “Automatically add to
Music.”

Anything you put in the “Automatically add to Music” folder will be imported
into your library the next time you open music.

the “method" I described works only for syncing a music library between Apple
devices.
If you want to transfer other content between your Mac and your iOS device, I
recommend using a cloud storage service like iCloud Drive or Dropbox.

Re: Transfering music from iPhone to Mac laptop

2020-12-12 Thread Brad Snyder
1. You might try using the Sync Library feature in the Music app on both your
iPhone and Mac. This does not require a paid subscription to the Apple Music
service.

To enable this feature on your iPhone, go to Settings > Music, and look for the
Sync Library toggle, and make sure it is turned on.

On your Mac, go to the Music app, and open Preferences using CMD + comma. Once
in the Music app’s Preferences, select the General tab from the toolbar, then
navigate to the Sync Library checkbox, and make sure it is checked.

Once this has been done on both devices, your library will sync in the cloud.
this may take a while, so be patient.

2. Beginning with macOS Catalina, iTunes is no more, and has been replaced
with separate Music, TV and Podcast apps. Another change in Catalina, is how
your iOS device is connected to your Mac. This is now done through Finder.
a. Connect your iOS device to your Mac using theLightning to USB charging
cable.
b. Open any Finder window (such as your Home folder, using CMD + Shift + H).
c. Navigate to the Sidebar, and locate your iOS device.
d. Navigate to the folder view area,, and you should find information about
your iOS device that is very similar to what was displayed in iTunes.

HTH.

RE: Typing Arabic With Apple Magic Keyboard US English?

2020-12-12 Thread Fazil
Thanks much, Andrew.

When I went to System Preferences, I did not see many options there.

Apple ID, Family Sharing etc. were there maybe five items. Am I doing something
wrong?

Thanks!

Fazil,

Go to system preferences & choose keyboard pane. There find the “input
sources” tab and press vo+space on it to make it active. Then move right till
you find “add” button. A table of all input sources possible will appear. But
you will also have “search” text box there so you can start typing “Arabic” &
the Arabic input source/keyboard will appear in the table. Choose it. You
will be returned to the “input sources” tab and you should find in the table of
input sources your Arabic keyboard. Move to the right and find a checkbox

that says "

Show Input menu in menu bar checked checkbox". Check this box and in the menu
extra you will now have an item to do with input sources to which you can
swiftly get and choose a different input source. There's a shortcut key
combination which you can use to choose next & previous input source but as a
default I think it clashes with spotlight activation shortcut key so it needs
changing to something different. If you want I can take you through the steps
in another email. Best wishesAndrew

Transfering music from iPhone to Mac laptop

2020-12-12 Thread Tod Fassl
I've been googling and if I am not mistaken, there is no easy way to
transfer music from my iPone to my Mac laptop, right? It's easy if you
pay for it by subscribing to Apple Music but there's no easy/free way as
far as I can tell.

I got a new Mac laptop, plugged in my iPhone, and was surprised to find
that it didn't do anything. The old Mac opened iTunes automatically and
allowed me to transfer stuff back & forth.

So now I seem to be kind of SOL. Years ago I painstakingly ripped all my
CDs. That took weeks. I bought some songs  from Amazon. There are
hundreds of songs in all. I want to make some new playlists and I'd
prefer to do that on the laptop where I have a regular keyboard, etc.

Are there any benefits to Apple Music besides allowing me to get my
music off my phone? I'm not a big streaming music guy. I buy songs and
make my own playlists.

Hi Tracy yes running apps from the iPad is only possible on M1 Macs. I wish
they made something like the rosetta emulator to run the m1 stuff on intel.
For recording I used Zoom and just used the microphone on the MacBook Pro and

It does work here. I press VO-spacebar to hear what it is, then I copy it with
cmd+c and paste it in the track view. It creates a new track at the bottom of
the table.

Hi,
When the loop you want is highlighted, copy it with command-C, go the the track
Header, interact and paste the loop with command-V.
You create audiotracks with command-Option-A, as you create Software tracks
with Command-Option-S.
Hope this helps.

Hi list,
I would like to do what the subject line of this message says, but I have some
difficulties. I try to insert a loop in a track, and I’m doing this by
following the procedure that GarageBand describes. I move the mouse on the loop
I want, and I try to drag it in a truck, But it doesn’t seem to work. I would
also like to know how to insert an audio track.
Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance

Oh, the book thing! A couple years ago, I bought an audio book on the day of
publication. That was amazing to me. The same day it came out for everyone, I
bought it as well. *smiles

What is your current iPad model? Also, do you have a braille display? That is a
brilliant combo. I use my braille display and iPad mini together constantly. I
love it for Duolingo or Memrise lessons.

A little braille display and iMessage tip; did you guys know hitting the dot 8
key sends your message off? If you happen to be dictating and hit the dot 8
key, it goes off right away. Lol! I’ve done this on accident and intentionally.
;)

If you update your MacBook, at least it’ll be the one with the m1 chip. I’m
kind of kicking myself that I bought my MBA just this last Sept. and less than
two Months later the m1 chip ones are out. It’s like when you buy something and
a week later it is on sale. Lol!

Inserting loops and external audio files in GarageBand

2020-12-12 Thread Steve Z.
Hi list,
I would like to do what the subject line of this message says, but I have some
difficulties.
