Re: Apple HomePod Discontinued: Apple to Focus on Smaller, HomePod Mini, USA Today

2021-03-17 Thread Mike Arrigo
That's one major disadvantage of the home pods, if you want to play anything
other than something on Apple music, you have to use your phone to stream the
content and at that point, the home pod is basically functioning as an external
speaker for your phone. The Amazon echo devices and Google Home devices support
several radio streaming services directly. Unless Apple makes more services
available directly on the Home Pod, it will never compete with the Echo or
Google home devices.

iHeart. You might give that another try.

I don't get why some music just won't play, and that's still an issue. I
mean, it would make sense if they had foreign language titles, but some of
the albums that give the most trouble don't. I've just solved that by
creating playlist with the album, and giving it a different name. But
you're right, that shouldn't be necessary.

All this said, I don't see how focusing on the Mini is going to fix those
issues. The albums that won't play on my HomePod, also won't play on the
 mini.

Re: Issue with USB LAN connection

2021-03-17 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I tried to find a online manual, but I don't think your vendor does this. It
appears you are using a DSL line am I correct? That would explain your mention
of PPOE. PPPOE is often used with DSL to connect to the DSLAM.
How many large phone style connectors (RJ-45 8 pin) are on your router, and do
you have another device that provides WiFi?

It is possible that your Macintosh can talk PPOE, I haven't tried in quite a
few years, but if your Mac talks PPOE to the DSL line then no other devices in
your home will be able to connect. In the US, the ISP's are often fairly good
at helping customers get their systems connected as long as the customers did
not buy routers from from a store, but used ones provided/sold by the ISP.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. Quite honestly, I did mention
Command-F and had forgotten about Command-Option-F, that works for me as well.
