Hey Dave. I'm finally able to send a reply to your message from last week
because I've reactivated my Apple One subscription. Anyway, the reason I don't
like Face ID is because it seems like it's too complicated. Especially seeing
as how I use Apple Pay every day. From what I've heard, you have to double
press the side button, aim the phone at your face which I'm not good at doing
at all, then aiming the phone at the debit machine to finalize the purchase.
With touch ID, all I have to do is aim my phone at the machine and use touch
ID. Now granted, I could use my Apple Watch which is what I've been doing ever
since I got it, but what if I have to leave my watch at home because it's
charging? That would mean that I would have to struggle with Face ID which I
have no patience to learn how to use. So until Apple forces me to upgrade, I'm
going to stick with my iPhone SE 2020.

Shawn,

Hi.

I must say I am very happy with mine too.
When I got it, my original SE was still working well, although I was using IOS

It's very responsive and most times I have no issue with it.
I even enjoy listening to music on it while I work, without any external

Hope this helps.

Take care,

I’ve decided to upgrade from iphone 8 to iphone SE 2nd generation (2020).
My reasons are to do with the touch ID sensor. Would you be happy to

they do have more expensive plans if you need more gig but if you're already

Sorting Order Of File List When Uploading Through Safari, Big Sir

2021-09-28 Thread Pete De Vasto
Hi,

I’m trying to upload some pictures using Safari. When the file picker dialog
comes up, the files are sorted in alphabetical order. Is there any way to
change the sort order, like you can do in Finder, so that the list is sorted by
something like date added? I tried sorting the pictures folder this way using
Finder, but when I got back to the picker dialog the list was still
alphabetical. Any ideas?

Re: Autochange Language?

2021-09-28 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Auto-switch language has been hit&miss for a long time and I’ve been reporting
it for over 5 years now since High Sierra was released. Auto-switch language
works for some languages for me but it certainly doesn’t work for Greek. I’m
pulling my hair out with Apple Accessibility. The trouble is very few of us
report this problem as the majority don’t use multiple languages. For those of
us who do, I fear I’m beginning to consider switching back to Windows although
I love my mac.

The $14.00 plan I have is the 1GB line which is enough for me.

H, think the phone plan they are talking about for $14 a month is probably
the landline offering to use at home, unless I am missing something. I think
the Spectrum Mobile service is around $45 a month for the unlimited, and maybe
about $14 per gig used per month if you don’t want unlimited. So, if one was
going to use more than 3 gigs per month or so, the unlimited is likely the
better deal. I heard they do let you switch that any time, but it is probably a
pretty good deal using Verizon’s towers.

I have Spectrum Internet so can get their phone plan for $14 a month.

2021-09-28 Thread Fazil
Thanks much, Jonathan.

I followed your instructions last week but could not finish it. The Genius bar
told me that Arabic keyboars are already there. I said yes I tried to add it
but could not finish it. So he fixed it and told me how to switch the keyboard.

Now, I guess, I can not do anything because English keyboard is not available.

Thanks!

Here is some text I sent you last week via this list. I guess you didn't read
it.

Oh, and by the way

1. Open System Preferences

2. Open the view menu and select keyboard

3. Press the Input Sources button

4. Press the add button

5. Select "Arabic" from the list that comes up.

6. Check the checkbox to display language input in the menu bar.

7. There will now be a bunch of options discussing Left to Right and Right to
Left text, you will probably need to change the shortcuts listed here but I
don't understand them. I would think that just selecting the appropriate
language input from the language menu would be all that you need.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Autochange Language?

2021-09-28 Thread Fazil
Hi, Group.

My iPhone8 autoswitches to any supported languages when it encounters the
text of that language. Should I expect the same behavior from
MacBookPro2017?

If yes, what should I do to have Macbook ? autoswitch the language, please?
I think I checked the box that talks about autoswitching language in
VoiceOver Utility but I am not sure.

Thanks!

Re: No page up or down on MacBook Air...

2021-09-28 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Donna,

I hope that you are simply mis-typing. The modifier is not the ctrl key, it is
the FN key. I tested in a Pages document and it worked for me with the
FN-down, albeit not with perfect consistency, but relatively consistent.

• interact with the page.
• use VO navigation to read something.
• press FN-down a time or two and see if you hear a page number reference.
Sometimes, it just says down, others it will say the page number it lands on.
• use VO arrows to look around where you are. It should be on that page.
• Again, if you do not hold down the VO keys, you will immediately be brought
directly back to the first page you were in.

HTH.

I’m having the same experience as Ron. In a Pages document, I can’t get CTRL +
up or down arrow to do anything at all. CTRL + left and right does take me to
a different place in the document, but it is inconsistent at best. My document
was four pages long. Sometimes CTRL Down arrow took me to the top of page
four. Sometimes to the top of page three. Similarly, sometimes CTRL Left
would take me to the top of the document, that is, the beginning of page one.
But other times it would take me to page two. And then sometimes it did
nothing at all.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi,

There are certain areas, such as HTML areas within a browser or Mail, that do
not support the Page UP/Down action. This is likely due to the fact that these
are not actually pages like in a word processing document or a PDF document.
In a PDF for example, interact with the first page, press FN-down a few times
and you should hear VO announce “down” as it progresses down the pages of the
document. Once it has moved down, use VO navigation to start reading, do not
simply use arrow navigation as you’ll find that the cursor remains where it was
to begin with. This process is definitely not foolproof, but works most times
when in a scenario where page markers are present.

HTH.

Does Spectrum offer a virtual Sim Card?

I had to get a sim Card sent to me once I provided my eimi number or something
like that.

I have Spectrum Internet so can get their phone plan for $14 a month.

Personally, I recommend getting sighted help for this. There is a delicate

Audible App keeps stopping in IOS 15

2021-09-28 Thread 'Adrienne Chalmers' via MacVisionaries
Hi

I am also experiencing this on my SE2020 and my original SE, which I keep for
reading books on.

In the settings, which can be accessed through the more button on the expanded
player screen, there is an option to disable autolock. If you switch this to
off then the player will stop as soon as the screen locks. If you turn it on,
you won’t have playback stop, but it eats the battery.

Clearly this is a bug and I am just about to report it to Audible. Anyone else
experiencing this could they please do that too? The more the merrier, I think.

Best

Adrienne

Voiceover doesn't follow Braille cursor in Big Sur 11.6

2021-09-28 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

A question to Braille users on the mac in Big Sur 11.6. When I choose to read
text either in email or in TextEdit using my Braille display, I notice that
Voiceover focus doesn’t follow Braille display. As a result, if I decide to
use my keyboard cursor to switch to using voice rather than Braille, Voiceover
is still at the beginning of the document. This is such a nuisance because it
means once you start using your Braille display to read text, you can’t switch
to listening to the text should you get tired or want to speed up reading for a
portion of the text. Am I missing something here? Does anyone else experience
this? I have reported it to Apple Accessibility but they have given me some
vague explanation to do with checking or unchecking “show multiple items” in
Braille category / layout of Voiceover utility which didn’t make one bit of
difference. Is there a solution to this?

Andrew
